David Drake is an American author of science fiction and fantasy literature. A Vietnam War veteran who has worked as a lawyer, he is now one of the major authors of the military science fiction genre.
An interesting approach to anthologizing science-fiction but also a limiting one... I have read far better anthologies (far worse)... the biggest drawback is that the only piece I will remember from this collection is the one by Rudyard Kipling in which he describes his meeting with Mark Twain. Stories, although not bad, may not be that memorable.
I like the idea of having authors all inspired by their exposure to Kipling telling stories based on that exposure. This is a good collection of stories by authors I have read most of my life, including Kipling himself.
