The Connections book began as an answer to a delegate motion to clarify the difference between a fellow traveler and a sponsor, which was not clear in the Big Red Book. In the course of examining this question, the committee realized that there were many other issues that could be discussed relating to support in recovery, including solving common problems in support relationships and examining the benefits of Support. This book presents a wide ranging view of support from the standpoint of both parties to the relationship, the one seeking support and the one offering support.
3.5 stars I am 1.5 years into the program and have completed a workbook with a group and am completing the steps with a sponsor. So, this book, on the whole, didn't have a lot of useful information for me. That said, I think what it had to share was useful, and could be especially so for a newcomer. There were shares throughout, which was nice, though sometimes the way they put shares in the middle of a section didn't make sense to me or disrupted the flow of the section. I also wish there were some reflection questions to help guide someone in deciding which type of support relationship might be most supportive to them and under which circumstances. I look forward to an updated BRB that has much of this info included (at least I hope it will be), but until then, it's a good supplement.
