Talk about heartbreaking. But then, Europeans aren't exactly known for good treatment of natives of other lands that they invaded and exploited. Despite living in Australia in 2020 knowing exactly how things are to turn out for these four aboriginal women, the way their stories are told left me totally unable to put the book down.
Their stories are heartbreaking, inspiring, infuriating, and eye-opening all at once. Hyllus Maris has left me feeling a much deeper connection to both the Indigenous peoples, and the country.

This is a collection of stories about indigenous women since European settlement in Australia. I thought the stories were good and offered some insight into some of the issues that Aboriginal women have faced during this period. I thought they would be intertwined, eg, the characters were related through history, but they were stand alone stories.

Very readable - four stories about the experiences of Aboriginal women from the time of white settlement to fairly recent history.
