A comic book writer and erstwhile artist. He has won critical acclaim (including five Eisner Awards) and is one of the most successful writers working in mainstream comics. For over eight years Bendis’s books have consistently sat in the top five best sellers on the nationwide comic and graphic novel sales charts.

Though he started as a writer and artist of independent noir fiction series, he shot to stardom as a writer of Marvel Comics' superhero books, particularly Ultimate Spider-Man.

Bendis first entered the comic world with the "Jinx" line of crime comics in 1995. This line has spawned the graphic novels Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, Torso (with Marc Andreyko), and Total Sell Out. Bendis is writing the film version of Jinx for Universal Pictures with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron attached to star and produce.

Bendis’s other projects include the Harvey, Eisner, and Eagle Award-nominated Powers (with Michael Avon Oeming) originally from Image Comics, now published by Marvel's new creator-owned imprint Icon Comics, and the Hollywood tell-all Fortune and Glory from Oni Press, both of which received an "A" from Entertainment Weekly.

Bendis is one of the premiere architects of Marvel's "Ultimate" line: comics specifically created for the new generation of comic readers. He has written every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man since its best-selling launch, and has also written for Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate X-Men, as well as every issue of Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, Ultimate Origin and Ultimate Six.

Brian is currently helming a renaissance for Marvel’s AVENGERS franchise by writing both New Avengers and Mighty Avengers along with the successful ‘event’ projects House Of M, Secret War, and this summer’s Secret Invasion.

He has also previously done work on Daredevil, Alias, and The Pulse.

So this is it, Miles' final days in the Ultimate Marvel Universe! New antagonists, and a new girlfriend with a bit of a mind-blowing secret that could effect Spider-Man himself! Also there's a new additional take on Miles' own legacy! And alongside all this, there's an urgent need for a new Ultimates team! Whilst many Marvel writers appear to be writing average to mediocre pre-end of this reality's books, Bendis just keeps on jamming! :keep on jamming emoji: Super strong Four Star, 8.5 out of 12.

Miles and a newly-resurrected Peter Parker take on a newly-resurrected Green Goblin - AGAIN! - before Miles finds out his girlfriend Katie Bishop’s “shocking” family secret. And speaking of secret, Secret Wars abruptly puts an end to this series, forcing Brian Bendis to awkwardly slam the brakes on his (admittedly absolute shite) storylines. Ta-da…

Revelations is definitely the worst Miles Morales book of them all – so glad I finished on it rather than started otherwise I might’ve been put off bothering with the far better other volumes!

I couldn’t believe Bendis rehashed the rubbish Spider-Men/Goblin encounter from the last book to open this one. Is there a stronger indicator of how bereft of ideas he was at this point than that? It wasn’t good then and it wasn’t good now and it was EXACTLY THE SAME both times! Nobody needed to see Ultimate Peter Parker formally hand over the web-shooters to Miles either, especially given the slate-clearing at the end of this book. And the explanation for Peter coming back from the dead was as asinine as it gets.

Speaking of irrelevancies, I really didn’t care about what Miles’ dad got up to as a yoof. Kingpin, Fury, SHIELD, whatever. Boring drek to say the least and David Marquez’s art during this sequence was unusually muddy as hell for no reason (because it was a flashback?).

No idea what the point of Katie’s secret was – it wasn’t for entertainment value – and the two robo Spider-Men thing that was a worthless afterthought from the last book? Turns out to be a worthless afterthought in this book! I don’t know why Bendis bothered if they were that useless. Something’s gotta fill up them pages, I suppose.

And then Secret Wars puts the kibosh on the series and the Ultimate Universe as a thing rather unceremoniously! The ending, like the rest of this book, was rushed, unsatisfying and deeply uninteresting.

Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man, Volume 2: Revelations was fucking awful. Pointless, boring, nonsensical, water-treading drivel from start to finish; if you’re after quality Miles Morales comics, check out the pre-Cataclysm stuff (Bendis’ first run with the character) and ignore everything after it.

If I had to sum up this volume of Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man in a word it would be rushed. Just looking at the synopsis way too many events got wrapped up far too quickly. It felt like I asked a little kid to tell me what happened and he spent five minutes recapping some massive event while being sure to use lots of ands.

The issue starts with the conclusion of the Peter Parker and Norman Osborn rebirth.
description

That wraps up quickly with some mere hints toward the future. Then seemingly every other event in Miles world gets wrapped up.

Oh and Doctor Doom shows up...

description

...and he's not wearing any underwear. Apparently that's ultimate style since Norman Osborn liked going around nude too.

The story in this volume just went too quickly to be very enjoyable. Hopefully the story can get back to a normal pace in the next issues.

When the Ultimate Universe first appeared (back when all this was fields as far as the eye could see) I hated it. Don't get me wrong; I didn't dismiss it out of hand or out of 'principle'... I gave it a decent shot and just could not see the attraction. All it was giving us was unnecessarily overlong, bloated retellings of the original '616' comicbooks. Utterly pointless.

While I couldn't be bothered with the retellings of Peter Parker's adventures, Mile Morales was very much another matter. I gave the Ultimate Universe another shot with the introduction of Miles as the new Ultimate Spider-Man and I'm SO glad I did. I love Miles. In a very short time he has become a character that is dear to me and I would have been gutted to see him disappear forever at the end of this volume.

Knowing his story is going to continue in 'Secret Wars' (and possibly beyond?) makes me very happy. I'd actually be more than happy for him to become the new 616 Spider-Man and have Pete grow old gracefully in a supporting role (and I'm speaking as somebody whose all-time favourite comicbook character for the last 33 years has been Peter Parker).

If you haven't read Miles' run as the Ultimate Spider-Man, do it now. It's amazing. Those of you who have can join me as I raise a glass (OK, it's actually a bottle of water) and say 'Farewell, Miles Morales. See you soon'.

This was quite epic omg!

So we see Miles fighting GG and with Peter there and will they be able to defeat one of the most dangerous villains to ever live and omg I love the fight, its kinda like anime, he knocks Norman down but he keeps getting back up and the fight gets insane and so cool until that final moment and I love that ending with Peter and Miles and what each of them does..!

And then finally the talk he has with his dad about what his father's past was and I love the reveal and Bendis makes it so epic and awesome and really shines a great light on him and well it changes stuff kind of and also weaves Fury nicely into Miles life but the big ending is when we find out who Katie, his gf really is and when Miles friends and family are taken by HYDRA like thats when the battle starts and

Its one of those endings which seems out of nowhere but it just serves to show how far Miles has come and taking on some big villains and like really cementing him as one of the de-facto superheroes of all time and its all well done here until the ending.. secret wars is upon us!

SO in short definitely read it, its very good and Bendis does his best to make it as epic as he can and he kinda does to a degree and you will Miles even more after this and the art like I keep saying by Marquez is really good.

And yeah this is the last Miles story set in the ultimate universe so yeah..!

Seems like Bendis didn't get to wrap everything up in time for the on coming of Secret Wars. He tries, which at times makes this volume seem a little rushed. But he's gotta leave some stuff hanging over for when this book is relaunched again. It's still pretty good though. And that Kate Bishop. Oh that Kate Bishop.

The art's still good and the storylines are pretty damn fast, but at least they're coherent even with the non-main-character flashbacks. A lot of the story is pretty much a scattershot of elements. I mean, girlfriend is hydra and Doom is working with the local chapter? Okay. Maybe not the best storyline, and it didn't have pretty much any depth to it.

Still, I like Miles. I want to see him get into deep trouble over a long story arc. This just didn't fit the bill, and it's now over. Where oh where are you, Miles?

You can tell the end of this was really rushed and condensed to accommodate Miles's move to the 616 universe with Secret Wars. I feel like we won't get any more answers about Peter's deal either. Since he already exists in 616, this will all get washed away. The Hydra stuff felt weak just because of how rushed it is. Jefferson's flashback scenes had some weird art. I'm surprised it was Marquez because it looked bad and he's a great artist. Still this has been a great series and I'm sure Bendis will keep the high standards up on the other side of Secret Wars.

Justin Ponseur is the Man. He takes great pencils/inks and he transforms them into some of the most attractive figures and panels I've ever seen in comic books. I mean, look at Norman's dental work, and imagine how little of that came with the black and white:

Or this gorgeous explosion - notice there's no lines at all in the fire?

But more than that, this book pays off an amazing hook:

Bendis might be a little too long in the sun for some - his signature wiseacre dialogue I've heard some say they're getting tired of - but holy shit is his storytelling craft getting there. His stories earn the moments - they're not just randomly dropped in there with no warning. Same as the MCU movies - I mean, remember how we learned to trust The Vision in Age of Ultron?

When Miles' dad comes back and spills his backstory, or when , I feel a twang of resonance when I read it.

That said, something about the way Bendis wraps up this book feels a bit...off. Like he had to rush it just a little - all the build-up felt like it was headed somewhere big, and then in the last two issues all the big bads came out, did their thing and were vanquished - . Made it feel kinda cheapened, and I feel a bit cheated.

Knowing this character (and likely some of the supporting cast) are headed to the post-Secret Wars earth to continue on, makes it easier to swallow - we'll pick up from some new place and hopefully keep enjoying the hell out of Miles. Though a few questions arise:
- when the worlds merge, presumably some of the ultimate and 616 characters will both live. What happens when you get two Cloaks and Daggers with near-identical costumes and powers?
- Do established buildings and businesses like Miles' Academy come over? If so, where do they squeeze it in? Does some other business get squashed? Do they get reparations?
- What about the 6-7 billion inhabitants of the worlds? Or even more specific, the 8 million inhabitants of New York City's each? Where the hell are you going to cram them all in? Or will Hickman just dismiss half of them, and mind-wipe the rest into believing "this is how it's always been"?

Another Ultimate Spider-man title comes to an end – this time, seemingly for good. (See: Ultimate Spider-man, Ultimate Comics: Spider-man, Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-man – all of which tell the same ongoing story).

It’s a sadness, given Bendis always gave the impression that he had another 50 issues planned out in advance – the story here is evidence of what happens when those 50 issues get crammed into the space of 7. We get the reveal of Miles’s father; a major character coming back and then abruptly leaving; a twist with an established character that is played out from beginning to end in a truncated fashion, and enough fisticuffs and major characters being tied up / knocked off / sent out of commission than you can stand in a single volume. It makes for good reading, but you can feel the speed Bendis is working at here. He wants the reader to have some sense of conclusion before THE END comes along, in the form of Secret Wars. Mostly, he succeeds, but it can’t help but feel rushed.

The sting is taken out of the whole enterprise by knowing that Miles is getting his own title in the main 616 universe. That’s cool by me. It also helps that this volume contains the trademark wit, fun, pathos, and pacing of Bendis’s best on the title. The art of David Marquez is perfect for the title. In short, I loved it. From beginning to THE END.

Farewell Ultimate Spider-man. Welcome Miles, to 616.

A weaker volume than I would have liked. The stuff with Miles dad just isn't all that interesting. They did it in a way I just couldn't be invested at all. It really slows down the momentum of the entire book sadly.

Luckily the end of Green Goblin is entertaining and the dude sure as hell murders a ton of people, truly a gigantic piece of shit. The stuff with Hydra is a nice surprise, and a fun way to end the Ultimate Spider-Man universe but not enough to say this is outstanding.

A 3 out of 5.

Score: 3.5 out of 5
Grade: 70% (B-) | Rushed but Good

Although the stuff with Miles' dad felt slower, it was nice seeing them connect on a level they've never connected on before. But people really weren't kidding when they said that the end of this felt rushed! In just a few pages, Miles takes down Hydra, Dr. Doom, saves his loved ones, unlocks a new ability, and then SECRET WARS! Boom, done, publish it, next!

This story is a weak four-stars for me. It could have been 5 stars if I did not feel as though it was trying to mitigate the damage from the previous volume. Also it does not help that this is the last book before Secret Wars.

Yeah Secret Wars! Thanks for fucking us all over!

I hate Secret Wars, the more Marvel characters I read and the more times I run into this event it pisses me off. I know a lot of characters die and it's Marvel's Crisis on Infinite Earths so it had the same effect, it killed off a lot of side characters that people like and it pisses me off. So how does this arc fare? It was really really good until Secret Wars.

World: The art is good, this is the first time I've felt that Marquez's art had kinetic action, that fight in issue 7 was phenomenal. The world building was also great, with huge chunks of it for the 3 story arcs that are found here. I won't spoil it but it's all gold.

Story: I really like the three stories but I kind of felt that the last one was way too rushed because of the need to end this book for Secret Wars. I won't discuss how much I hate this event so let's just continue. I really liked the Osborn/Peter story as it comes full circle and the end was very poetic (also ruined by Secret Wars). The middle was much needed character development for Dad and it was good, the changing art style was also a very nice touch. The last story should have been the best one and I think a couple of more issues would have been nice with quieter Kate and Miles moments to make it more dramatic, the end is still good, but I wish Secret Wars did not happen.

Characters: Wonderful character building. Let's start with Peter, awesome and logical and you knew this was coming, it was great to see him drive off into the sunset. Miles and Dad also got a huge chunk of development and it was great, the pieces that we finally get to see with his dad are wonderful and it finally fixed the biggest problem I had with this book. Miles and Kate was also good, but way too rushed for anything of emotional substance to be felt by the reader. It was a rush job and it was not Bendis' fault, blame Secret Wars. There are still a lot more character moments here that I loved and it shows Bendis' skill as a writer, but you know what I'm gonna complain about so I won't.

Really fun run and I wish there was more. I know Marvel wanted to change the status quo and for the most part the main characters are here, I know. But it's the side characters that I will miss and it's these characters that I've loved so for long getting wiped makes me annoyed (the same thing happened in the New52 with Flashpoint).

Onward to the next book!

Okay, Let's admit it. When Brian Michael Bendis looks over his comic career when he retires he has to know that Miles Morales is one the greatest characters he has ever created for Marvel and comics as a whole. Ultimate Spider-man continues to be one of best superhero comics around. Miles is quite simply a breath of fresh air as a teen superhero. This volume in the series is no exception. Miles finds out that the Peter Parker(Spider-man) of his world is still alive and the two team up to defeat the Green Goblin one last time. At the end of this decisive battle Miles earns the right and blessing by Peter to become the true and definitive Spider-man of the Ultimate comics universe. The latter half of this collection we go a little deeper into the Morales family history, mainly Miles dad being a former SHIELD agent. This to me is where this volume shines as Miles learns from his dad about his fears and his pride as parent on Miles becoming spider-man and saving the world.

This was truly the best volume in the series and yet it felt like a new beginning for the life of Miles as Spider-man. It is a bitter pill to swallow here as the series transitions into the Marvel universe altering event, Secret Wars. Secret Wars will of course be the end to the Ultimate Universe but I am sure we have not seen the last of Miles Morales. A top notch volume and great comic series that everyone should be reading.

This is slightly more rushed than the pace I'm used to on Bendis's Ultimate Spider-Man books. An unfortunate side effect of the upcoming shakeup at Marvel, I'm afraid. At least I know that Miles, who I've grown to love every bit as much as I loved Ultimate Peter, will be sticking around afterwards. In any event, it's obvious that Bendis had stories for many more issues than he ended up having, which is such a shame. I would have liked to see this play out in the way he originally intended. Is it still good? Of course! Speeding up the action leaves the human component intact, which was always my favorite thing about Ultimate Spider-Man. The way that the resurrection of Peter Parker played out, though... Eh, maybe not quite so satisfying. This is the story that I really feel was hurt by the shortened schedule. Too bad.

The second and final volume of Miles Morales new series. The poor Ultimate Spider-Man isn't having much luck with his series at the moment as Marvel events keep coming along and ending them!

It opens with the conclusion of the Norman Osborn storyline which frankly should have been included in the first volume. I can't really figure out why it wasn't and I'm excluding it from my thoughts on this volume.

Back in the early days of Miles' Ultimate Spider-Man we had a story about his father working in the criminal underworld. Here we get another one where Miles father was forced to work with the Kingpin. It's even better than the first Morales Senior story with some stunning artwork.

The main story of this volume sees the outcome of Miles telling his girlfriend Katie Bishop that he is Spider-Man. Unfortunately it turns out Katie's parents belong to Hydra, who have now joined forces with Doctor Doom. Poor Miles ends up in their clutches and it's not looking good for him as the All-New Ultimates rush rush together to perform a rescue. But this is the brilliant Spider-Man Miles Morales and he can rescue himself in an unexpected way.

It's all rather good. In many ways this series feels like the old-school Peter Parker Spider-Man, a teenager facing ever increasing threats whilst trying to deal with normal teenage issues like relationships with his parents and girlfriends. It's really great and I'm sad that it is all coming to an end for Marvel's Secret Wars event. At least Miles is set to play a big part in that by the looks of things.

A good volume but it's a shame we haven't had a proper run featuring the character for some time. I hope that after Secret Wars Miles gets his own series which last for some time and isn't constantly interrupted by massive events.

Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man: Revelations (Mini Comic File)

Miles Morales has taken on the Ultimate Spider-Man persona. But a mysterious figure may steal his masked identity. And Norman Osborne has come to claim his children. Miles' father reveals a family secret and the Morales family relationship with S.H.I.E.L.D.. Additionally, Miles' girlfriend Katie Bishop reveals a dark secret which could lead to everyone Miles loves dying. Can Miles survive his family drama or the world ending?

So this issue does lead into a Earth Incursion tied into Time Runs Out. But before that I feel like writer Brian Michael Bendis is working hard to tie up loose ends and undo some of the good story work that has been done with Ultimate Spider-Man. Honestly, I really would like the Ultimate universe to not be filled with comic book deaths before the universe comes to an end.

S.H.I.E.L.D. fans will love the inclusion of both stories involving early S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra today which impact Miles' life.

Rating: 3 out of 5...because some things should not be undone.

This series is so great; but, as it draws to a temporary close, due to company-wide crossover, there is more violence, more sturm and drang in the storytelling, particularly in the concluding battle in which one supervillain dies.
Bendis' dialogue is superb, and Marquez drawings are stylish and varied. Their craft is top-notch.
I had bought each issue upon release until the concluding twelfth issue, found here, thank to my public library. The resolution is fine, even a happy ending for Peter Parker. Miles Morales, though, is presented with a company-wide crossover upon the end here... leading into a Secret Wars miniseries, which I await in a collection from the public library, at some later point.
Recommended. Not for the youngest, like I can recommend earlier volumes, though.

A mere dozen issues after his world scraped through its last catastrophe, Miles' book gets cancelled again in readiness for the next multiversal apocalypse. I've really enjoyed this series, much more than anything else Bendis has done lately, but I do wish they'd just let it get on with being the story of one kid dealing with adolescence, superpowers and a weighty legacy, rather than constantly derailing it with Events. Various themes which were trailed as key early on - including, would you believe, the debatable merits of the academy system - have never had chance to surface because everyone kept getting distracted by the world ending. Again.

An excellent conclusion to the Miles Morales comic and to the Ultimate universe.

I did feel like it jumped all around the place a bit, probably because Bendis was desperately trying to close up plot threads. However, I enjoyed the mysteries and confrontation with the Goblin in 6-7, then I loved the revelations about Miles' dad in 8-9. The final story about Hydra and Doom seemed a bit hurried, but it was probably necessary to finish up Katie's story. Throughout all of this, the supporting cast is great, as is so often the case in Bendis' comics.

I'm very pleased with the group we have watching the incursion appear on the last few pages. I hope we'll see them survive into the next universe.

Doom and Hydra are working together to make Spider-people because those guys are some real supersoldiers! Doom says things like "You thought you could get away with assaulting Latveria!!" to Miles even though he has never been there (?). Katie Bishop is called a piece of shit because she was born in a Hydra family but seems basically an okay person? Miles beats up 100 Hydra guys and Doom OFF SCREEN because he was real upset about their going to dissect Jessica Drew?

Come on Bendis wtf you're like a teacher just showing dvds two weeks before summer break
