Heed the warnings on this book as it is a very extreme book! Lots of gore, torture, and lots of gag reflexes throughout the whole book. It takes a lot to gross me out, but this book did just that as it was the grossest horror book I have ever read.

The story revolves around Pam, a woman that her whole life she has lived in hard times and for a living she cleans bathrooms. She finds a genie lamp on the floor of one her job bathrooms, rubs it and is very surprised when an actual genie pops out. He

“...I can make you happy. I can make you beautiful. I can make you rich. Whatever you want.”

Imagine getting the opportunity to have everything your heart desires? How much is it worth? Your soul? Your dignity?

Pam Wilkins' life is pretty deplorable. She's neither attractive nor financially secure. Her boyfriend assaults her constantly--both physically and sexually. She hates her job, cleaning up other people's crap--literally. Naturally, when a djinn appears before her one day and offers six

This novella was a nice interlude for me between more serious novels (or some not so serious). It was extreme in the manner of Kayla and the Devil. Pam, the questionable protagonist, finds a genie lamp which agrees to give her six wishes if she follows the increasingly bizarre, degrading and extreme demands of the genie. If she fails in any of the demands, she loses all of the wishes including those she has already been granted in addition to losing her soul.

I know, it sounds trite and overdone

What would you do if you lived a miserable life and was suddenly offered six wishes to make all your dreams come true? You could have beauty and more money than you could ever dream of. You could finally walk away from your loser boyfriend, who only uses you for a hole and a punching bag. You could walk away from having to work several jobs just to keep said loser boyfriend in beer and snacks. You could have it all. Would you do it? Even if the chance to do so in

I left my "5Bs" blank because I didn't read enough of the book to make a valid score.

I made it about 12% into this book before I gave up. Not because it wa

This was too awesome!
This is why I love the likes of Sam West.
This was reminiscent of how much fun I had reading Richard Laymon novels, but even NASTIER!
Be prepared though, as there are some scenes that are SO depraved and disgusting that I caught myself actually holding back a mouthful of bile. Mixed in with the nauseating scenes, was a fantastic narrative with a tremendous main character who is such a bimbette. Her self-deprecating attitude, and her utter lack of luck will have you laughing

Not Your Typical Horror Story

If you're looking for an edge of your seat, suspense and gore fest kind of horror novel then this is not the book to get. If you're looking for a book that focuses more on the gross out factor based on things related to disgusting hygiene and body functions, not unlike an extreme form of what's often referred to as "potty humour", such as an exceptionally in depth description of drinking out of a toilet bowl that has feces floating in it, then grab this book. Pam is a depressed, unattractive and unlucky woman. She finds a lamp and the Djinn asks her to do really horrible things to earn her wishes.
I love extreme horror, but this was almost too much for me. There is some disgusting sex acts she must do and they go into great detail. I am more for gore than sex stuff, I almost stopped reading this book because of how gross it gets. I kept reading cause Sam West is a good writer that keeps me into the story and I kept wanting to know what will happen to

Where to begin? I will just type stream of consciousness about my feelings having reading this book.

The vividness of the writing took me right there front row, center seat for the entire, sordid, sick story. At a certain point, I had to dare myself to finish this book. It was sooo disturbing.

I read and enjoy several genres but have NEVER read anything like this. I am thinking this must be some little known subculture genre for extremely graphic sick shit reading enthusiasts.

Derivative but entertaining

Mr West wears his inspirations on his proverbial sleeve and they are ever so obvious in this short novella. I did enjoy the nods to American Psycho and others. There are some similarities between this book and Edward Lee's Going Monstering that are both delightfully foul and wonderfully depraved. Unfortunately, the Djinn is so painfully dull a character that it detracts from an otherwise solid story. My only other serious complaint is that it is very short and the endi

It makes such a nice change to read a horror story with actual horror:)

I regularly pick up books claimed as "terrifying" "gruesome" and featured on book snob type lists of horror novels. I'm disappointed 98% of the time, usually the bigger the author, the more likely it is to disappoint, like Clive Barker and Peter Straub. This did not disappoint. I've read a few of Matt Shaw`s stories lately and I've liked them all.

Not for the squeamish or faint hearted, but those who like proper pyscho tales

I literally found myself gagging numerous times reading this book. It wasn't from the horror aspect it was from the routinely eating of fesces ect. and in great detail. As far as the story goes? Well it's revenge and lots of sex with unwashed males with rectal issues. Homeless men and young men that need to rape. I don't know, extreme horror it is not. Extreme gross is what it is and I love horror and think Richard Laymon is tame., so that should say a lot. ...more

This is a great new author who holds nothing back. His story idea, characters, the story arc, and the pacing were unbelievable. I was captivated from the start. Some of the events in this novella were gross, but that's the point of horror, isn't it? I just wish he wrote novels. I gave his other titles a look, and they're all novellas. But not everybody has it for full-length books. Nothing to be ashamed of; Lovecraft and Poe didn't. ...more

There was too much gross out and not enough story. I am all for gross out, some of my favorite authors go for the gross out in all of their work however they provide story as well. There was enough story in Djinn for me to keep reading despite the repetitive scenes of debauchery and scatology. I think this could have been a good horror novel instead of a cheap nasty read. I guess I am torn because there are about as many things I did not like with Djinn that I liked. Very disappointing.

Not your average Jeanie in a lamp

Very graphic, and grotesque, but went completely with storyline. Big twist at the end. Had some idea it wouldn't turn out in her favor, but was really caught off guard by the ending. Good book.

To have a wishes granted by the Djinn, a woman must do horrific tasks. Although her tasks were horrific, they were not original in content or presentation. Still, I enjoyed it, and the ending had a twist.
