The Wexley Inn

Rate this book
Perfect for readers who love stories with the heart of Hallmark and the drama of Desperate Housewives.

Isabella Montgomery has spent her career making other people's hotels successful. At fifty-five, she's finally ready to create something of her own. When the historic Wexley Inn on South Carolina's exclusive Wexley Island goes up for sale, she sees it as fate—the perfect opportunity to fulfill her lifelong dream of owning a charming bed and breakfast in the Lowcountry.

What she doesn't see coming is Thomas Langley, the only contractor on the island available to handle the inn's desperately needed renovations. The same Thomas who was her first love at college, who disappeared without explanation thirty years ago, breaking her heart and altering the course of her life.

As they work together to restore the inn to its former glory, the spark between them rekindles as if three decades had never passed. With the support of her new friends in the exclusive Lowcountry Ladies Club, Isabella begins to imagine a future she never thought possible. But her hard-won business instincts tell her Thomas is hiding something about why he really left all those years ago—and why he's back on Wexley Island now.

With the grand reopening approaching and storms brewing offshore that threatens everything she's worked for, Isabella must decide if she can trust the man who once shattered her heart. Because this time, it's not just her heart at stake—it's her dream, her future, and the historic inn that's already starting to feel like home.

Set against the backdrop of the enchanting Wexley Island, with its pristine beaches, swaying palmettos, and tight-knit community, The Wexley Inn is a story of second chances, facing the past, and discovering that sometimes the longest journeys lead us right where we belong.

A later-in-life second-chance romance readers are calling warm, hopeful, and deeply relatable.

The Wexley Inn by Rachel Hanna is considered a clean romance with many secrets. It has themes of relationship, friendship, and trust. The story follows Isabella Montgomery who has moved to Wexley Island to renovate Wexley Inn. Isabella decided she just had to have the Inn after seeing it for sale and she wanted a life change after managing other people's hotels for over twenty years as well as moving on from her divorce two years ago. Isabella sees this as her chance to really put everything she knows, and loves into the Inn. The one thing about coming back to this island is seeing Thomas, the guy she was supposed to marry but left her without giving a reason. Thirty years ago the two of them talked about owning the inn and making it their own. Thomas has been on the island his whole life and has made a name for himself in historical renovations. Now he's the guy that is most qualified to help Isabella update and make the appropriate renovations while still keeping the historical aspects of the inn alive. The only problem is Thomas has a big secret that he has kept from Isabella on why he left her all those years ago. Now he must decide if he should tell her why he left, all the while maintaining a professional relationship with her.

I really like this clean romance book. The relationship between Isabella and Thomas runs deep, and the secret that Thomas holds could change everything if he chooses to tell her. I enjoyed not only Isabella and Thomas's character but also the other characters that really helped support the story. You have Luella who comes with the Inn and lives in a cottage on the property, she is not only smart but sassy and tells it like it is. It's hard to not love her. You also have Thomas's daughter Emma who really pushes her dad to tell Isabella the truth. She also doesn't automatically side with her dad when she sees him messing up or doing something wrong. She definitely is her own person with her own opinions. She is very helpful with making the Inn a success. I think the author did a great job in tying all the characters together while not bombarding readers with too many characters. The characters in the book all have an important place, and job in the book. You really see the characters develop throughout the book and it's hard to not fall in love with at least one of them. Even though Isabella and Thomas's relationship ended years ago and both have changed you really want to root for them to get back together. If you are looking for a clean romance but also a book about change and development you should definitely give this book a try.

I received an ARC of this book for free in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book was Amazing!! I loved that I got all the feels from the story from sadness and tears (yes I cried a couple times????) to happiness and excitement to doom and hope. I loved the storyline from young love that ended too soon to 30 years later reconnecting while working together to reconstruct the Wexley Inn! I love how all of the characters came alive and grew throughout the book and I am especially happy that Isabella and Thomas were able to get their second chance at love!!! I can not wait until the next book. Thank you so much Rachel Hanna for this amazing masterpiece!!!!!!!

I am so excited to share Rachel Hanna's new book about the Wexley Inn.

Isabella says goodbye to corporate hotels to restore and run her own inn. She is surprised to realize an important person from her past will have to help her fix it up. Through meeting the islanders, some of which are friends and some of which are foes, we see Isabella, her relationships, and her new inn grow.

I enjoyed this new book and look forward to the start of a promising new series!

If you know me, you know that I am a huge Rachel Hannah fan. All of her books have great casts of characters with strong connections and with romance, tension and stories to tell. This one has high school sweethearts who were separated for years and then meet up to restore a beautiful old Inn. While they are restoring the Inn they are restoring their lives. Loved this one and I can’t wait until the next one.

Isabella and Thomas clearly still had the connection they had as teenagers. They tried to keep their feelings professional, but still had an amazing connection. The project they were working on had them working closely together and their feeling began to redevelop. The Wexley Inn is a clean second romance romance. Rachel Hanna again wrote a book that kept our interest all the way through.

This is a clean romance.

Isabelle decides to buy and restore Wexley Inn. There are a lot of island politics. The best person to help restore the inn is Thomas, her ex boyfriend. However, she makes it professional and needs his help, not only with the restoration, but also the island politics. Why did he ghost her when they were younger? Can they find common ground as they work on this project?

This was a really good story. I enjoyed the characters and liked how they worked together and looking at the reason they separated. It was interesting to look at the relationship, the choices that they make. I feel like the problems were relatable.

I received an ARC from the author and am leaving an honest review.

I'll start by saying that this is not my favorite genre in the first place, but I wanted to read it at the same time as my grandmother so we could chat about it.

This book had a focus on restoration with a romance narrative and dialog so predictable it was eye roll enducing. Side characters came out of the woodwork with perfectly timed nuggets of wisdom and truths to teach the main characters about themselves or how they should navigate situations. Of course they did. The buildup for Thomas' big reveal about their past took so long. Then that storyline was rehashed over and over.

It was an easy read. Light, predictable, safe, and most definitely PG rated. My grandmother liked it. I didn't hate it. But won't buy book 2. I have no clue how the story has enough substance for a 2nd book. But I will buy the sequel for my grandmother when it is published. It's more her style than mine. And that is okay! It would be boring if we all liked the same thing.

She does it again! Rachel Hanna has such a gift for writing stories that feel comforting, heartfelt, and full of real-life hope, and this one might be my new favorite. The MFC’s journey grabbed me right away. I found this story to be so inspiring and the setting on Wexley Island is so vivid you can almost smell the ocean air and the flowers (I think we need Wexley Inn merchandise!) The dynamic between the main characters felt authentic & had just the right mix of tension, tenderness, and spark. I found this book to be about rediscovery, forgiveness, and what it looks like to open your heart again in midlife. The small-town atmosphere is exactly what you want in a book like this: quirky characters, cozy moments and a sweet sense of community. The whole story had a hopeful glow. Highly recommend.

The Wexley Inn completely drew me in from the first page. Isabella’s journey, rebuilding the inn, navigating her past with Thomas, and finding support from her new friends, felt so real and emotionally engaging. The tension of her rekindled romance, coupled with the mystery of why Thomas disappeared all those years ago, kept me turning pages.

The setting of Wexley Island is beautifully described, making you feel the charm of the beaches, palmettos, and small-town community. It’s a story about trust, resilience, and rediscovering love and purpose, and it hits all the right notes. I’d highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys heartfelt romance, second-chance love stories, and a richly immersive setting.

Great story!

I love second chance tropes! This includes a small town, and on an island.

Isabella wants to buy, restore an inn to it's former glory and run the inn. Not just any inn either but the one shown to her by her then college boyfriend, Thomas, some 30 years ago. The island has a charm that she can't resist. Little did she know that Thomas was living on the island now (still?).

A story about mature adults that can pretend they don't still feel that same attraction they did when they were in their 20's, but no one's buying it.

A sweet, slow burn romance that will draw you in and keeps the pages turning to find out what happens. Will the inn project be a success? Can they find their way to each other, after all these years? Do they even want to?

This story from Rachel Hanna was quite enjoyable. Isabella buys an old grand inn in disrepair and proceeds to restore it. Little does she know her old college flame who left her without explanation is on the island where the inn stands. Isabella and Thomas end up working together on the restoration. They remain friendly, but distant. It's a slow burn tale with authentic Southern characters and wit. Try this book; you will enjoy it. I received an advance copy of this book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Good book

This is the first book in this series. We are introduced to the Wexley Inn in southern lowcountry. The dream of restoring it belongs to Isabella. In finding a restoration contractor she realizes he is the man who broke her heart 30 years ago. Can she work with Thomas and still realize her dream? Read on.

A Gorgeous Second-Chance Story With So Much Heart
I adored every page of this book. Isabella is such a strong, relatable heroine, and watching her chase a dream she waited her whole life to claim was incredibly inspiring. The Wesley Inn felt like a character itself, warm, charming, and full of history. Her reunion with Thomas had me hooked from the moment he walked on the page.

I always enjoy Rachel Hanna books. She does a great job of exploring relationships among her characters, and she always seems to have a way of showing how important communication is in those relationships. I think I have read just about everything she has written, and I love her series that always keep adding new characters who fit in perfectly with the characters we already know and love.

This isn’t my favorite Rachel Hanna book. There was more drama and some not so nice people in this book, and I’m not a fan of those type books. When I read Rachel Hanna, I want easy to read, comfy, with not much drama. I want to like pretty much all the people.

I almost didn’t read this book. Romance that spans years and the one who got away for stupid mistakes, becomes tedious and boring. This one, however, kept the interest and intrigue going. Will she succeed? Will they succeed or was it destined for failure. I enjoyed this one.

This book was so enjoyable to read. It held me captive. Yes it had a predictable ending, but I thought Grayson could have used some comeuppance.
