Running With Wild Blood
Richard Lake of the Atlanta Police Department gets a cold case when a witness suddenly gets his memory back. Lake recruits Moriah Dru to look into the murder of Juliet Trapp‚ sixteen when she died‚ and a student at Winters Farm Academy. Juliet Trapp had told her mother she was going to Bike Week with Wild Blood‚ an outlaw motorcycle gang‚ over the Christmas break. The police were unable to solve Juliet's murder after interviews with the bikers. The case roars into high gear when Juliet's father‚ Sherman Trapp‚ is murdered in Chattanooga where Wild Blood is the predominant motorcycle club. Dru discovers that Trapp was trying to find the killer of his daughter‚ but got too close.

This is a cosy mystery, and it starts with Moriah Dru being invited to look into a cold case, the murder and rape of Juliet Trapp three years previously. There had been some indication Juliet had gone off with a biker, and the Wild Blood gang were the local bikers. Moriah investigates by asking questions of anyone who might have any connection, and we soon get a series of seedy characters, and another body or so. Then there are one or two other characters who have run off, or gone somewhere to further their careers, depending on how you look at it. As is the case with a lot of police work, an awful lot of the interviews are not all that relevant.
The story is comfortably written, but with all the dialogue it can be sometimes difficult to focus on why certain questions are being asked. For me, there was surprisingly little tension generated, largely because the story seemed to be wandering with no clues as to why Moriah was going where she was going. There were action scenes, and these were quite well written, but all but the last one ended inconclusively. Of course the author has to keep the story going, but the protagonists should get something out such fight scenes, even if it is only a desire to catch up with the other side again soon. The ending was also a slight problem for me. Moriah announces a clue as to how she knew, and the clue was presented earlier, but unfortunately, in my view, it is a very weak clue, and it made the ending unconvincing for me. To summarize, it is a comfortable cosy mystery that is easy to read, and if that is what you want, here it is. You get the added bonus of a feel for the southeast of the US, for Gerrie Finger clearly has a strong affection for Georgia and nearby states.

Raped and murdered three years prior, Juliet Trapp’s case is about to be reopened. Trapp’s neighbor, Geoffrey Howard, happens to remember that Juliet was with a biker from the Wild Blood motorcycle gang the night before she gets murdered. But can this new testimony be trusted? He and his pals had been drunk that night. In the initial interview, they hadn’t seen Juliet at all.
But then things heat up when Juliet’s father is found dead. He’d divorced her mother and dropped out of sight shortly after her murder. Now they’re working on two cases. It appears he’d been trying to seek his daughter’s murderer on his own.
Told in first person by Moriah Dru, this is the third book in the series but can be comfortably read as a standalone – except there’s a bit of a hanger at the end of this one. I loved Dru’s character, a truth seeker regardless of the consequences. Both Dru and Lake are very engaging and believable characters. The story starts a tad slow at the beginning, but action picks up as Moriah keeps pushing the boundaries and the danger level. There is a small bit of romance as Dru and Lake have a ‘thing’ going. This Ain't No Gone With the Wind!
There’s nothing like a well-written whodunit to get the old deductive juices flowing and Running With Wild Blood by Gerrie Ferris Finger (couldn’t have made up a more original name had I tried!) does just that. Set in the genteel south, you may think this story is a reminiscent ode to gentler days gone by when the likes of Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler traded acerbic barbs before falling into each other’s arms in a soul-searing embrace. Far from it! Sure, the dialogue is laced with southern charm and courtly mannerisms but in this story, there are no wilting Southern belles, only kick-ass steel magnolias like Moriah Dru, who’s like a dog with a bone as she searches for the truth behind the cold case murder of spoiled sixteen-year-old Julia Trapp. A little slow out of the gate, the story picks up speed once all the characters in place. Add to this mix a bunch of bikers, a ride to the Sunshine State and a dead father and all of these elements culminate in a surprising conclusion; one that will leave mystery readers looking for their next fix in the series.

It took me a while to get into this book and to figure out what was going on. I have to admit I never would have guessed who the real bad guy was!!
Biker gangs have a pretty bad reputation--not always deserved if this book is to be believed. Richard Lake is with the Atlanta Police. Moriah Dru used to be a policewoman-but has since left the force and become a P.I. Her employees are unbelievable at ferreting out clues whether legally or illegally. Just as an aside-Richard and Moriah are an "item" but very low key as neither is quite ready to get married (or at least one of them isn't ready)!
Will Moriah and her employees be able to find out the secret of why Juliet Trapp was murdered and where Juliet's father is while exonerating the Biker Gang of any wrong doing? You really have to read this book cause that's all I can tell you! There is something at the end which makes me want to keep reading this series---------------Running with Wild Blood

Totally suspenseful and engaging!
When I read this book, I hadn't read the other books in the series, but even though I would have enjoyed reading those, I wasn't totally lost when I read this one. At first, I had to figure out who the characters were and what the relationship was between Dru and Lake, but I quickly caught up. It was an easy read and very engaging. I wasn't sure how the story was going to play out and I like that I was surprised. As a writer, it takes a lot to surprise me with endings, and this definitely did. I will definitely read this author's work again.

I had never read a book with this duo--Atlanta cop Richard Lake and PI Moriah Dru. They are a good pair, and the case of a witness who suddenly recovers her memory in a cold case of a disappearing girl is a good who done it.
