The fourth and final novel in the Code Breakers series.
Gabriel and Petal have tracked Gabe's mother back to Hong Kong. But to find her Gabe has to face his old gang and the ghosts he thought he had laid to rest years before. While helping him, Petal stumbles on a way of getting Gerry's mind out of her head, but like Gabe, she too has to return to a place full of Libertas. Enna is now the Prime Minister of the domed city, and when Petal arrives she discovers Enna has developed her transcendent technology. However, to give Gerry a new existence, they'll need more help - help from someone within the Family. Faced with shifting loyalties and an uncertain future, Petal and Gerry will for the last time face a dire threat to their existence when Jess is kidnapped by a shadowy figure. It's a race against time to find her and uncover the conspiracy before the Family has the last laugh.

Find that last sequels lighter in term of pure actions, but better in term of theories around AIs Evolution and the impact of these theories (getting from AI to a full sentient being with Emotions and Consciousness), it also deals with some deep theory about the Fabric of the Universe and a lot of Philosophical Implication. My best sequel is still the third one, but as someone working in IT, I clearly felt more connected to that sequel.
This had the potential to be really interesting, as there were a couple plotlines that seemed promising, but that never developed as much as they could have been. The book suffered by being too disjoint at the start, and then once everything started to be brought together, there wasn't enough time to really handle the main plot with the care it deserved.
Fun series. But by the third book it becomes formulaic - New danger to the existence of humans. A few new characters, a few older supporting characters. Three 'how will they get out of this' scenes. Characters die. The end.
I loved it jus like the rest of the Code Breakers books. It’s full of action, twists and interesting technology (ok, maybe already sometimes old or not that mind blowing, but still great). I definitely recommend this one!
Yes, we all still love Petal. Yes, Jess has turned out to be a starchild, at least when it comes to the sentient servers. Yes, Elliott is a danger. Yes, this series has gone on too long.
After having suffered the loss of so many friends, including Gerry, Petal leaves on a trip to commit Omega to the depths of the sea. A permanent prison for Elliot and unfortunately Gerry. Along the way, Petal stops at the bunker where she lost Gabe only to find him and his father alive. The set off on a quest to find his mother after dumping Omega into the sea. But The Family is not done with them quite yet, and in end they find once again that friends you thought you could trust, you can't. Or can you?
Excellent series! I love the technology the author uses - near-future organic/digital integration I can actually see appearing in the world in the next 10-20 years. Very creative plot - great evolution of the characters. And the author's writing gets better and better through the series. Highly recommended!
This was a great ending to a wonderful series where the writer deals with the longevity of life using tech and the hidden traps that may occur when doing things that were not naturally intended. The characters are great, and the mystery of "The Family" are explained all the way to the end. Great job!
For obvious reasons these books remind me of the sprawl series by William Gibson, and for some other reasons also, the writing style is fast paced and rather than inviting you in kinda does that thing where YOU NEED TO KNOW what is about to happen, I totally connected with the characters and will be reading EVERYTHING this author writes in the future THANK YOU
After the first three books I didn't think there would be anything else this group could get into. But, I was wrong. After the return of Gerry, things started heating up. Except for the current generation trans human, post human and clones have been abolished. All that's left is the love of humanity.
Colin did it again with another fabulously written book. This was a great series. I am not a big sci-fi fan or techy but I would recommend this series to anyone.
I'm glad it ended the way it did. I liked all of the characters. I'm sad of all of the deaths that occurred of the good guys/girls. I will recommend this series to all of my friends.
This final book had a ton of action and a lot of reveal about the family and their origins, as well as Gabriel's past. Pedal was the main character in this book and was a great choice to focus on. Gerry returns and ultimately has to put an end to the threat to humanity from the family and from technology in general. I really liked this novel, it was well done in the style of the others and continued the story well. It did get a little bogged down in a former family compound in the final half of the book, and ultimately a few of the characters ended up being a bit pointless in the grand-scheme of things (though they did have their entertainment value). In the end though it was a good book and a fitting conclusion to the series, and had somewhat of a happy ending (as much as could be expected in the book's world). This review was originally posted on MichaelSciFan
