Evangeline is ordinary. She lives an ordinary life. Her friends and family are ordinary. Only one of these statements turn out to be true. At twenty years old, Evangeline Rolieux has an idyllic life. She understands how lucky she is, being born just five years after a pandemic. Her parents were survivors of the infamous influenza virus that swept through the world and ravaged the population, killing three-and-a-half-billion people. She’s read about it in books and has heard the stories, but a spark, lit from a simple history assignment, sets fire to her curiosity and pushes her to delve deeper. Soon she’s tumbling down a path towards a startling discovery that may destroy everything she cares for. Unbeknownst to her, the currency for this knowledge will be exchanged in blood, and it’s far more than exists in her body.

Violet and the Veterox is a thrilling, sometimes chilling sci-fi fantasy novel that follows humankind into the depths of a nightmarish scenario and back. Full of unexpected twists, turns, and upheavals, the story is sure to captivate your imagination and cause you to think more deeply about what it truly means to be human.

I grew up in rural Nebraska--in a town so small that it was considered a village. Although it only encompassed one square mile, in my imagination, the space was infinite. On any given day the town transformed into the setting for a spy club, a scavenger hunt, a hotel, or a trip back to the pioneer days. I spent summer nights with a huge group of "town" friends, playing four-hour -long games of Capture the Flag or Hide and Go Seek. Sometimes I would go on hikes, disappearing into the massive cornfields behind my house. Eventually, I grew up and moved away. I had a baby, got married, had another baby, and yet another. In comparison to others, my life has been very fortunate. Very, very fortunate.

I love love loved this book! I don't even know where to begin. I identified so much with the main character's personality it wasn't even funny. The book itself was well written and the ending had me begging for more. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading it!

I am one very happy reader!

I was drawn in immediately by the pandemic aspect. I love post-pandemic fiction and with the current Ebola outbreak going on, it seemed like a fitting read. I was fully engrossed from the get-go. The main character, Evangeline, was well written and colorful--I could very easily identify with her and she was very likable.
The plot twisted and turned in ways I didn't expect and the author did a nice job of revealing the secrets throughout. The book flowed really well and the writing was great--very descriptive. I enjoyed being able to picture the sci-fi aspects, especially when they were inside the VHQ. Charlotte was probably my favorite character in the book--I loved her. The romantic parts blended perfectly into the novel as they didn't overshadow the story, but added a lot of depth and a sort of hook.
Overall, the book was fantastic! I'll probably re-read it again in the coming weeks.

This book was written by the daughter of a co-worker, and I was one of the people who voted on the cover, so I decided I had to read this book. It was very good and it ended abruptly, so there will be a sequel. It is only available via Amazon as an e-book.
