10 Hooting Owls is a super adorable counting book and so much fun to read aloud. It is EVEN more fun to sing aloud, as this is a 'hoot-a-licious' version of the song Ten Green Bottles.Ten hooting owls lounging in the sun.Ten hooting owls lounging in the sun. And if one hooting owl should go off for a run. There'll be nine hooting owls lounging in the sun. This is a wonderful counting book and provides a fun way to practice counting back from ten. On each page there is also a hidden number to be found, which adds another fun element to this picture book and great for number recognition.
I'm trying (and failing) to resist the temptation to say that this read was a hoot(!!!)
The soothing repetition is always a hit with young readers, and it's quite fun to see all the mischief and hijinks these sweet little owls get up to, in this reverse counting primer. It's in the theme of 'Five Little Ducks' and the likes. I like the extra level of visual literacy included with the secret numbers hidden on each page.
I read this story for Toddler Tales today. I thought the illustrations were very attractive and funny. The story itself has been done before, but it was a cute rendition. It was hard though to keep the tots focus during the reading compared to other stories. It's still a cute book!
This is quite weak - the rhyme pattern is inconsistent from page to page (or verse to verse). It also requires readers to break words unnaturally, which isn't good for little kids.
That said, the number element - in particular, finding the numbers concealed on each page - can be quite fun.

My Review: What a fun book for little ones, it has something for everyone. It has great rhymes and repetitive words, bright and silly images, and hidden numbers. Munchkin really enjoyed adding the hooting sound effects. I think it is a great book for counting but I can see reading it time and time again getting annoying for me.
This is a creative book, helping to teach children how to count backwards from ten. The integration between the rhyming story and illustrations will help kids understand the concept of the story.
I really liked this book! Not only was it a good way for kids to learn their numbers (1-10), but there was also hidden numbers for you to find on every page!
