Paisley Hull fell in love at sixteen; the forever kind of love: unexpected, passionate, consuming - her first. She never thought she could walk away from that kind of passion. Ignoring her heart, guided by her head, she never looked back.
Blindsided by the beauty of a tiny, hazel-eyed vixen, Jake Grant fell head over heels in love, vowing to keep her protected and not let his past taint her. He may have been overzealous in his attempts to show her how much he cherished her but he never thought she would walk away without a fight.
Nine years later, a now divorced Jake has a chance encounter with an engaged Paisley just a few short weeks before she is set to walk down the aisle. Wondering if they gave up too easily, the two embark on a journey through the jagged edges of their past. Can they overcome the obstacles to finally become one or is it too late for their second chance?
Leigh Ann Lunsford is stay at home mom turned author. She writes Romance/New Adult and loves her happily ever after in all books and movies. She lives with her husband, son, and four dogs in Fleming Island, Florida. When she isn’t writing or reading you can find her stuck in front of really bad reality shows or watching Sons of Anarchy. Leigh Ann has a filthy mouth and a huge amount of sarcasm that knows no end. She hopes to give the voices in her head an outlet with many more novels to come.
The is my first Leigh Ann Lunsford read and this author blew me away. Her fabulous writing enabled me to capture each emotion - love, fear, anger, heartbreak, and devout sadness - that the main characters felt. Delivering a maddening and frustratingly perfect depiction of young love, getting it all wrong and growing up while living both their dreams and worse nightmares simultaneously. Learning to love, lose and ultimately forgive.
This is not just a story. Pieces of Paisley is a journey. A path to self identity, destruction and survival. Two pieces of one heart. A journey to love.
Love does not begin and end the way we seem to think it does. Love is a battle, love is a war; love is a growing up. - James A. Baldwin.
Paisley and Jake take each other into a whirlwind of emotions. They storm into each other's life when they least expect it. Jake, a twenty year old Naval officer meets innocent, sixteen year old Paisley Hull. They're ticking time bombs waiting to go off. And when these two collide.... it's explosive, magical, suffocating, calming....intense. ALL CONSUMING.
Brooding, control freak Jake falls hard for young, beautiful and fiercely independent, mature thinking Paisley. Not just lust and gorgeous bodies but the snarky and ornery attitudes and the quick witted banter between the two. It gets your blood flowing and this giddy, lovey dovey, romance feeling in the pit of your stomach with a silly girly grin on your face.
Jake and Paisley go through the pains of young love. Learning to combat the age difference and all that goes with it. Jealousy, work, school, family, insecurities and past scars. Riding the ups and downs of their relationship, Jake and Paisley take a long time of getting it wrong until finally, nine years later, getting it Right is the only way they can move forward.
*ARC provided on behalf of the author for an honest review* Thanks!
This is by far Leigh Ann's best work. I am a huge fan of the Parker Sibling Series but Pieces of Paisley surpassed those. In this stand alone novel, somehow Leigh Ann takes us on a journey of a realistic broken women afraid to love with all of her being, afraid of being left behind, of being abandoned. Yet it's not even a fear she recognizes as she runs from heart ache in different types of relationships, not just love. This woman is stronger than she gives herself credit for and watching her grow is amazing. I think what I loved so much about this story was how much of myself and my female friends I saw represented in it. Our desire to be loved, our weakness for a man we loved, our willingness to settle in an effort not to be alone because we don't think we deserve better and are afraid we can't find it.
Paisley's journey is full of ups and downs, finding the beauty in faulty relationships, and learning that even when we are let down by those we love, it doesn't mean they don't still love us. This is the story of a love that endured distance, time, other people, and heartache but still came shining through. I'm not a big crier and had made it most of the way through this story without shedding a tear but I couldn't hold it together at the end. I won't spoil the read for anyone but I will say that there is a moment in the end that literally stole the breath from my lungs, had me gasping for air between sobs as tears spilled down my checks. While the scene was gut wrenching it was one of the most beautiful things I have ever read.
This is a five star read that I think anyone could enjoy - there is something for every romance lover in this story. Leigh Ann this is it! This is the one girl! FLOVE THIS STORY!
Excuse me? Goodreads? Are you there??? I would like for you to add more stars to your rating system please. You are asking me why? Seriously? Have you NOT read this book????? I need to at least put 5 MORE stars on this book!
Leigh Ann Lunsford has really outdone herself this time. While I love her Parker Siblings Series, and that is what originally drew me to this talented author, this book is outstanding!
This story begins with young Paisley Hull, who is falling in love for the first time. Her love, Jake Grant, is a sailor. This is not the type of story where everything is all hunky-dory, everlasting love stuff. This is a real true to life relationship. The good, the bad and the ugly all wrapped into one. Between the pages, my emotions were all over the place, sometimes so happy for the characters, sometimes really disliking them. It's as if I were in the story but couldn't reach out to slap anyone for doing something wrong, and I REALLY wanted to.
Leigh Ann Lunsford, thank you for writing such an incredible story. I cannot wait to read more from you.
“She holds up her finger signaling for me to give her a minute, and I am about to put my foot so far up her ass she will speak Skecher.”
“I am not going out and seeing every couple in love and happy because I would want to take dull spoons and dig their eyes out.”
“Those words make me want to jump on him and do naughty things, but walking is really not overrated, and if I did what I wanted I wouldn’t be able to walk tomorrow, and it is family night. I don’t think my step-dad would appreciate me walking in the house bow-legged with a boyfriend who just got off deployment and is hornier than a four-balled tomcat.”
My Review:
Near the beginning of the story, I realize the main character is 16 years old – what?!? I almost stopped reading as I don’t do YA, but I reminded myself that this is a Leigh Ann Lunsford book, and I loved Leigh Ann Lunsford’s previous works… so I kept reading. Wow, good thing I did - this is her best work ever! While reading – I cursed Leigh Ann Lunsford with a clenched fist – she wrecked me. Her writing is sneaky, emotionally intense, irreverent, real-life, steamy, heartbreaking, thrilling, enthralling, and highly addictive. She pulled me in and I was under her spell from the beginning. Her magic caused me to feel the highs and lows of all the characters to a profound degree. This story was hard to put down and even harder to quit… even when not reading, I continued to mull the story and the dynamic between the characters, as it stayed with me. And while I don’t do YA and don’t have a full appreciation for angst, I readily admit that I loved this book. I finished it and have since started another, but find myself still thinking about Paisley, and sighing. I send both curses and kisses to Leigh Ann Lunsford, she has ruined me. I will pray to the book gods and will make offerings of my precious kindle chargers if it means that she will keep writing.
Seriously Leigh Ann??? You effing rock! And this book, while out of your norm.... Will rock everyone's world as it did mine. You nailed it with legitimate feelings while a man we love deploys.. The tumult and anguish... Spot on! Everyone will fall in Love and Hate and fall in love all over again with Jake.. And Paisley?? I wanna be her when I grow up. This was such a well written story that it consumed me. I anxiously snuck a read in at work and thought! Consequences be damned! I can't wait for everyone to experience all that is Paisley and Jake and the all consuming love they have.
Paisley Hull is just about to turn 17 and will be starting her
senior year of high school. She lives with her mom and
stepdad and her best friend Krista is her rock. Kirsta is
the daughter of a rich mom and step dad who try to exert
their will over her. She had a series of tragedies, starting
with the break up with her boyfriend Tim and culminating
with events that have scarred her. Now her life consists of
her enjoying weed and guys at every opportunity she can get.
Paisley keeps her anchored as much as she can.
At a beach party with one of Krista’s hook ups, Paisley
meets Jake. He just recently got out of being in military
prison for having fought with some guys. Jake has been in
the Navy for the last two years, is 20 and has no intentions
of settling down. Life is too good right now. He was burnt
by his long term girlfriend Lisa, who cheated on him with
his best friend Mickey. Jake’s biggest problem is his
temper, he can’t seem to rein it in and he acts before he
thinks.
When Paisley and Jake meet, they are both instantly
attracted to one another.
When I give her the smart-ass answer laced with an insult, I immediately see some spark in her eyes. She comes right back at me and with that show of fire, she has sealed her fate. She will be mine, for a night, a week, a month a year...maybe a fucking eternity.
But being the snarky, wise assses
they both are, they are full of zingers and one liners for
each other. Paisley thinks he’s gorgeous, but he comes
across as controlling and judgmental.
"First, you don't need to worry about my safety or age. I didn't ask to ride with you, Romeo, that was all your doing. Second, not interested...I don't think I can make myself any clearer."
In spite of their verbal sparring, Jake and Paisley are into
each other-in a big way-up until Jake finds out Paisley is
still in high school and isn’t even 17 yet. Paisley is
pissed that Jake is making such a big deal about it, but
realizes that he doesn’t want trouble dating someone under
age. But Jake can’t get her out of his head. They keep
hanging around each other and Jake knows he should stay away
from her but he is under her spell. He’s being deployed in
a few months, and getting involved with someone, especially
someone underage is the last thing he needs, but try telling
that to his heart and a certain piece of his anatomy.
These two have almost an insta love for each other (I did
think their deep feelings seemed a little rushed) and spend
as much time together as they can. Paisley is a virgin and Jake is
respectful of her, although Jake makes little effort to
control his temper or his Alpha self when it comes to
Paisley. He can’t stand that she smokes and he hates her
hanging round Krista (he thinks she will drag her down, as
Krista is partying way too much and drugs are becoming her
best friend). When his first deployment comes up, it is
difficult for both of them, fortunately it’s a short one,
but there is a 6 month one looming in their future.
Paisley wanted to be a lawyer, but her grades are spiraling
and she misses tons of time at school as she wants to spend
every minute with Jake. Her parents are understanding about
it. (much more so than most parents would be)
"I am overwhelmed. At life, in love, just everything. He is leaving in less than two week, I lost my best friend, I can't stand being in school, and everything is happening at once. I don't know how to process this."
She spends a lot of time with Kara, whose boyfriend, Rick, serves along side
Jake. They have a lot in common, although K’s boyfriend
treats her like crap. (he's a major douche) She feels that she has no support with
her family and she is stuck with him. This is a vicious
cycle, she gets pregnant and unfortunately loses each baby
and so she stays with him for emotional and financial
reasons. But Paisley is a good friend to her.
Right before his 6 month deployment Jake learns some life
altering news. Should he share what he has found out with
Paisley? He sure as hell should, but he won’t and that
will haunt him for the rest of his life. When he gets home,
his temper, which was always bad, is even worse. Keeping the truth from
Paisley, makes him feel guilty and puts too much pressure on him. He is twice as controlling,
and makes decision that will affect both their lives without
asking her opinion, right on down to her career choices.
Paisley rethinks marrying him. Things blow up, the truth
comes out (Paisley found out his secret before he told her)
and lives are forever changed.
Living with her heartbreak, Paisley finds out that Jake
quickly replaced her.
I see Jake, standing in the food court, talking and laughing like nothing is wrong, and when he turns to head into the movies and places his hand on the small of the girl's back he was chatting with, I am reminded that it is really over.
Just about now is when I wanted to throat punch this douche. He may be regretting his hasty
decision, but Paisley is forced to give up on any future
with him. Years go by and she has drifted from one bad
relationship to another. Time has brought about so many
changed for her friends Krista and Kara. There are some really
gut wrenching scenes in the second half of the story. There
is no communication between Jake and Paisley, although he
finds out about some of her life from his mom’s activity
on face book. Believing that he should stay away from her
and let her live happily without him keeps him from
contacting her.
When fate brings them together, one of them is about to
commit themselves to someone else. Can the timing ever be right
for them or are they fated to always live their lives apart?
This is a lengthy story that explores the years that Jake and
Paisley are together as well as in depth look at Paisley’s
struggles alone. We get some of Jake’s POV, and have a
little insight into his thoughts, but I would have liked a
more detailed explanation as to why he made such a quick
decision to replace Paisley, there was no background story
as to where Autumn came from, how they met or why they moved
so quickly.
Paisley infuriated me so many times. When Jake
was deployed, she was forced to make decisions on her own
and to stand on her own two feet. But so many times in the
book she relied on men way too often for her happiness and
future. Although she always realized before it was too late
that the ties needed to be broken. The love between Jake and
Paisley could never be forgotten, nor replaced, in spite of
their years apart. Wanting them to reunite kept me
interested through out the story.
"Every piece I have is yours, and I promise I will be the one to hold the puzzle together. You are the glue to my existence. Without you I am not whole, and I don't want to live like that again."
After I read the synopsis I was very intrigued and anxious to get my hands on this book. I want to start off by saying the synopsis did not do justice to this story. This story was amazingly written. It is filled with so much emotion that it grabbed me from the first page to the very last page. The author did an amazing job giving us Paisley and Jake’s story of their journey to finding love, making mistakes and second chances. Their story is not an easy story and there is heartbreak and misunderstandings. Years will go by for the pair, but the author does a wonderful job in showing how time can mature people.
Paisley and Jake fell in love when Paisley was 16 and Jake was 20 years old. Jake is taken with the young beauty her age. Jake being in the Navy makes him think it’s best to push away his feelings and attraction. Jake is not at all prepared for just how mature Paisley is. Paisley has never been in love. She immediately starts to have very strong feelings for Jake and for the first time is in love. Things are hard for Paisley and Jake. He is deployed for long periods of time and is controlling. He’s also very opinionated when it comes to their relationship.
“I am trying to work this out in my mind, our age difference, me being in the Navy, those ramifications in itself are huge.”
“I don’t want to be something you are trying to work out in your mind. I want to be more than a problem or obstacle you have to find ways around.”
Jake and Paisley establish a relationship over the months and years. They fall in love and are both committed to each other, but Jake finds out a big secret. A secret that causes him to lash out and push Paisley away. This is where Paisley shows just how strong and mature she is. She tried to support and be there for Jake despite his actions but there is only so much a person can take. You will cry your heart out. You’ll want to slap Jake a couple of times but if you are anything like me than you will love the way Paisley handles herself.
“Give up on us? You never had faith in me, never trusted in me, not once, Jake, not for one damn minute. You have never treated me like an equal, even when I begged it has always been your way or no way.”
“This isn’t true. God, I love you. I am sorry for everything. I’ve f***** it all up, and I will do what I need to so I can fix it.”
Over the years of their separation Paisley goes through a lot of ups and downs in her life. She is trying to move on, trying to find her way in life and trying to find love. We get to see her go through a slew of relationships looking for the feelings she had with Jake. Jake’s decisions cost him Paisley and instead of fighting for Paisley he continues to make mistake after mistakes, trying to move on with his life. When Jake finally realizes he has truly lost Paisley, he is not prepared for the feelings of emptiness and pain he feels for that loss. 9 years later, fate puts them face-t0-face, and Jake is not willing to let Paisley go without fighting, but is it too late?
“You gave me your past, your youth, and even when we were apart, I still had you. I had your heart, and that is a gift I want to treasure and keep forever. I am asking you for one final piece, Paisley. I need your future; I need you to be mine, forever. I am still that same man, Paisley”
“But I am not that same girl, Jake. That girl is dead.”
Their journey is an emotional one, and I cried several times throughout this book but the tears were worth when I saw the growth of both characters throughout the years. Pieces of Paisley is a book worth clicking. The work the author has done with the characters and their story truly is amazing. I felt everything these characters were going through on every single page in this book.
Let me be honest here....This is by far Leigh Ann's best work to date. Don't get me wrong her Parker Sibling series is great but this.....this is AMAZING! I devoured this book in one sitting and had an emotional roller coaster. So many emotions, I can't even tell you which I felt the most of. 5 stars!
I LOVE THIS BOOK!
The characters were so REAL! You will immediately fall in love with them. I mean I am already tearing up again while writing this thinking of everything they each went through. This is definitely one of those books you will read over and over just to FEEL!
Let me try to break some things down - Spoiler Free. This story depicts what it feels like when you love someone who is not always around........It will hit home - for many - on certain levels. As it did me.
This story takes place over many, many years. I loved that. Leigh Ann did this in a way that it was enjoyable. It wasn't "hey she's a teen in love fast forward ten years" NO....we see a little of Paisley and her life from TEEN to ADULT. And you are going to feel all kinds of emotions watching her grow. I can't tell you how many times my heart ached and yet there were plenty of times I laughed out loud. While watching her grow we see her endure lots of pain in between . The pain of love and loss. So many times I wanted to reach into the book and just hug the shit out of her because she was broken. How can you truly be happy when your "person" is miles away and not with you? She tries - many times over, she tries.
The relationship between Paisley and Jake is kind of a "Forbidden Fruit" thing in the beginning. And yet the attraction and pull is so strong - They are blindsided by the pull they have for one another. This is not some fairy tale story of boy meets girl....they fall in love and live HEA. The story of Paisley and Jake takes you on a journey. A true to life journey. A journey full of the GOOD, THE BAD, and THE UGLY and everything in between. Jake is total swoon worthy and if I had ran into him at a party I would have been all over that. He tries - hard - to do the right things. Both of them are flawed. If their journey doesn't pull at your heart - well then you don't have one =)
I literally had to stop reading several times and take a moment. I was hysterically crying. And it really isn't for reasons you will think. I am a lush and I am emotional and when a book touches me like this one did... I cry! Often during parts that others would be like "Huh? You did what?"
This is a beautiful, heart warming, heart wrenching coming of age all consuming story. Will Paisley and Jake withstand the tests of time and get the HEA they both deserve? Do yourself a favor.... One. Click. This. Right. Now! You will be blown away.
Bravo my friend Leigh Ann....You totally rocked the shit out of this story! Blew.Me.Away.
What a great book. This is the first time I’ve read any of Ms. Lunsford’s books and I'm so grateful that I had this wonderful experience. Paisley's story is an emotional roller coaster ride that is very rewarding .
Pieces of Paisley is a standalone book that spans a nine year period of Paisley’s life. At the beginning of the story Paisley is almost 17 and the youngest of six children. Jake is a 20 year old sailor who runs into her at a beach gathering of a bunch of friends. Jake knows that Paisley is too young and keeps his distance in a way. Surprisingly Paisley’s parents don’t object to the relationship and, in fact encourage it. In between Jake’s deployments this young love grows until Paisley graduates and Jake proposes.
Don’t think this mean that we have a smooth sailing love story. Jake has skeletons in his closet that he doesn't share with Paisley. Paisley is insecure and finds it hard to believe that someone can really love her. Before the wedding Jake and Paisley have a major fight about the secrets, misunderstandings and call of the wedding. They each deal with the breakup in their own dysfunctional way. Jake moves on and marries another woman. Paisley jumps from man to man never finding what she needs. Neither of them are happy but they don’t know where or how to find their happiness.
I can’t find anything to complain about with the story. It is a beautifully written emotional roller coaster ride that takes the reader through every emotion imaginable. You will laugh, cry, get angry, cry, find hope, cry again and rejoice. How lovely. One thing that I really like is the way Ms. Lunsford transitions through the nine years. It is so seamless and the story flows so smoothly through each new experience and relationship it is like watching it unfold in person.
As I read the book I felt I really knew the characters. So many times I wanted to pull them off the pages and give them a lecture after a good shake. I liked getting in their heads and understanding them. The chapters alternate between Paisley’s and Jake’s point of view a technique that let us know where each character is a a given point in time. Being in their heads made it easier to sympathize with their good and bad decisions.
I also loved the relationship among the various friends. There are good friends that go bad and back to good. There are some bad friends who take advantage and deceive; you know just like real life. Paisley and her best friend Kirsta have many good times and some bad times. One of the best scenes in the book is towards the end when Kirsta writes Paisley a couple letters. The letters are so good and emotional and game changers. It is lovely.
I highly recommend this extremely well written story. The main characters are perfectly flawed to the point that the reader has to root for them to figure out what went wrong with their life. Believe me you won’t regret curling up with this book.
Paisley falls in love with Jake, they have a few hoops to jump though. Paisley is only 16 and but her parents don't seem to mind the 4 year age gap. Jake is also in the Navy and he has a leave he's getting ready for one is for a few weeks, but it's the 6 months that could be the test.
Jake and Paisley seem to have it figured out though until Jake comes home from Christmas at his parents in Kansas and he finds out a secret that could destroy his relationship with the one he wants to give everything too. Jake makes the decision not to tell Paisley his secret which goes beside what his mom says. She knows this will come back and bite him in the butt.
Just before Jake leaves to deploy Paisley wants to slip a note is his bag but she finds a picture of a beautiful young girl. Who could this be?
Fast forward Jake proposes, and Paisley accepts but things break soon. Everyone is planning and getting what they want except Paisley. Then when she finds out Jake doesn't want kids so now she doesn't think she can go through with this marriage. She walks out on a fight and makes a decision that could ruin her. She leaves her first love and he doesn't go after her.
Jake goes on to marry and of course he had to marry someone on their day! Paisley can't seem to get the feeling of love back no matter who she's with it's not that feeling she has with Jake.
Nine years later, a now divorced Jake has a chance encounter with an engaged Paisley just five weeks before she is set to walk down the aisle. Could this be their second chance at love? Can he win her back with weeks left before she gives herself away. Neither one of them hasn't gotten over the other, but now Paisley has a secret... a big secret that will conflict with Jake for the rest of his life no matter what happens.
First of all, I am a huge fan girl of Leigh Ann and her writing. I fell in love with her Parker Sibling Series and I knew I would love Pieces of Paisley. This book pulled every emotion that flowed through me while reading it. I love the feeling of just wanting to reach in my kindle and squeeze the living daylights out of the characters I read. The emotional angst was off the charts.
The main characters are Paisley whom starts out as 16, a senior in HS, and the youngest of 6 siblings. Then we have Jake who is 20, is in the Navy and deports to sea a lot but has 2 more years to finish his term. This book takes place within a nine year span and also broken up into 3 parts. It is a standalone read.
Pieces of Paisley will destroy your puzzle that was put together, replace the pieces, but slowly the pieces will find each other again to make a new puzzle. I am not giving any spoilers but is worthy every minute of your spare time to read right now.
"Young love is hard; doesn't always grow the way it should and sometimes you lose it True love always survives and you can never extinguish that fire."
All I can say is Leigh Ann, you outdone yourself again. Keep writing and pouring your talent on those pages and I will be supporting you right behind you through your journey! I received this ARC as a gift from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This was a beautiful story of finding love at a young age, allowing circumstances beyond your control to separate you and, when life throws you a second chance at it, going full steam to get it back!!
Paisley, a don't-mess-with-me girl, captures the attention and heart of Jake. He’s on leave from the Navy and, from that moment, they both know that what they have is something to fight for.
Jake knows he shouldn't pursue Paisley but he refuses to listen to reason and decides to make Paisley his.
Falling head-over-heels for Jake was not in her plans but it's too late to go back, so Paisley chooses to fight for their love and show Jake she's all in.
They both have plans that include the other but Paisley has high goals for her life. Jake feels threatened by this so, instead of supporting her, he feels the need to control her. And that is something that Paisley feels she can't deal with.
I really liked Paisley standing her ground even though it broke her heart. She needed to do what would benefit her in the long run. I wish I could say that this was a fairytale story but it was far from. Pieces of Paisley was a story about real life and how each decision we make affects us in either a small or big way.
I will say that when they get their second chance at love Jake does the opposite of what he did when they were younger and had me sighing. Have your Kleenex with you and be prepared to not be able to put your Kindle down, because once you start reading, you will want to reach the final page to see how it ends. ~ Kara, 5 Realistically Beautiful Stars
First of all I have to say that out of all Leigh Ann Lunsford's books, this is absolutely her best work yet! She blew me away yet again! This book has it all, the sweet love story will pull on your heartstrings, the sexy and steamy moments will make you blush, the tragic heartbreak will make you want to scream and throw your ereader across the room. It's rare that a book will bring me to the point of tears where I just have to put it down and walk away but this one definitely did.
Paisley is so strong, she has goals and will stop at nothing to accomplish her dreams. When she comes face-to-face with sexy and swoonworthy Jake, she starts to have feeling she never thought possible! She is so afraid to be left heartbroken and alone so she closes herself off to love and alienates the only ones that are turly there for her unconditionally. She wants so badly to have to all, but can she? Is it too late? Has she already ruined her one chance at a happily ever after?
If you haven't read any of her work yet, now is definitely the time! Get ready for a wild ride of emotions because that's exactly what this book is! Grab your tissue and prepare for this wild ride!
❤️❤️Because let's put it out there..... Smoldering, sexy, alpha Soldier?.... Not intrigued enough? How about.... A love that lasts a lifetime and pulls you into it from start to stop. How about an story so great you cried because yes, it ended. Still not convinced? How about a story of epic proportions that will blow what you thought was life, out of the water and leave you gasping for air all while holding or stuffing tissues up your nose because let's face it... This book is that good! The plot is like a damn fishing line that has the best bait and reels you in slowly and and snags you up. Leigh Ann has done a great job in capturing the reader and invoking feelings they never knew existed. From the lovely Paisley who wants to be loved to the super smexy Jake who loves the only way he knows how. You'll find yourself sitting at the edge of your seat expecting one thing... But totally getting something else! And let's not forget the other characters. You'll love some, you'll definitely hate some(which by the way, I still do) but over all you'll fall in love with the greatest and realist love story of all times.❤️❤️
Back Off My Book Boyfriend Proudly gives this book 5 Quacks
If any author can toy with your emotions and still make you love her then Leigh Ann Lunsford gets a gold medal. Sheesh. This book had me on the edge of my seat for the entire thing. Just when I think Jake and Paisley will get their crap together something new happens. With all that said, I think this book portrays what growing up really entails, especially when you know you found your true love at such a young age. I know. I've been there. Every time Paisley or Jake felt pain, I felt it. Every time they smiled, I smiled with them. This is a great book but I advise drinking a glass of wine. Or two while reading. Maybe even a bottle. This will take your emotions on a roller coaster ride but it's all worth it.
OMGOODNESS Leigh Ann rocked her awesomeness with this book! From the very first chapter you are pulled into Paisley Hull's life. With her sassiness and quick wit you know that her story is going to one you won't forget. This is a really great 'coming on age' stories. With her best friend, Kristi pulling her along to beach house for a party, Paisley meets Navy sailor, Jake Grant, 4 years her senior. Jake was smitten from the moment he lied eyes on her. Falling in love quickly had Paisley's life going like a rollercoaster. Leigh Ann Lunsford is at her best with Pieces of Paisley and I can't wait to read more!
A wonderful coming off age, second chance love story
Spoiler free review. This book made me feel every emotion possible. I truly feel like I grew up with Paisley and Jake. These two have quite the journey to their HEA. Everything they experience together is realistic and easy to relate to. I remember being that young, stubborn and stupid in love. This was my first book by this author and it will not be the last. I definitely recommend this book for those who enjoy HEA that the characters have to earn and likes a book that evokes emotions out of you.
**this deserved a reread...even better the second time.
I was given an ARC for an honest review of this book. I love a book that can just completely suck you in, making reality fade away as you read. I had never read anything by Leigh Ann before. What a mistake! I am looking forward to reading more by her. This is more than a simple book, it's the a roller coaster ride of all the emotions that young love cause, it's a long twisty, sometimes scary journey that real love is. Amazingly written and definitely won me over as a fan for life!
Leigh Ann Lunsford is a total rock star. Nothing like the Parker Sibling series....Pieces of Paisley was a roller coaster ride of emotions and twists and turns. Loved every minute of it!
I was so excited to read this book and I had my expectations set kind of high considering I loved all Leigh Ann's other books and she did not disappoint. Pieces of Paisley is about finding young love only to lose it but....as with many things that get lost it doesn't mean it can't be found.
Paisley is shy and insecure but has plenty of spark in her. She is an over-thinker, constantly questioning everything she believes she should and shouldn't feel. Paisley has this wall built up inside her, this is her way of keeping others from letting her down or hurting her. Paisley comes off as this unapproachable girl, but that doesn't keep Jake from pursuing her from the first moment he laid eyes on her. He soon breaks down that wall piece by piece.
Jake is in the Navy, he has just a few more years until he is out. He knows now it not the time for a relationship but all that flies out the window as soon as he sees this tiny beauty and hears her smart-mouth. He wants to know every single thing about Paisley. She makes him want to be a better person.
Paisley and Jake soon become inseparable, young love is never easy and they have their spats but they love each other. Jake has a couple deployments coming up and both are dreading them. With one short deployment out of the way Jake heads home for Christmas break in Kansas. Everything seems to be going well until some life altering news leaves him stunned and confused. With yet another deployment coming up, this one the longest yet the couple must learn how to deal with everything while trying to spend as much time together as possible.
The unknown....
Paisley knows Jake is keeping something from her, but she loves him and will wait until he is ready to share that information. Jake is feeling the pressure of everything and his temper is flaring. When it's time for him to leave they both have no idea what is going to happen to their relationship while they are separated. Will those secrets finally get revealed? Is their love strong enough to keep them together with little contact over the course of his deployment?
You will have to read to find out.
There is so much more to the story but that is all I'm going to tell. It's wonderfully written and will pull at your heartstrings. I loved Paisley's character, watching her grow from an insecure teen into a stronger young woman kind of reminded me of myself. I had my ups and downs with Jake but also felt for him at times. Their relationship wasn't easy but it was full of passion. I was rooting for these two through it all. This book is told in dual POVs so you get not only pieces of Paisley but Jake as well, no pun intended. ;) I loved the prologue and while reading I would occasionally think back to the it wondering if this is the "moment" and when I finally got to it, it brought tears to my eyes. As with all of Leigh Ann's work I highly recommend reading this one.
Leigh Ann never ceases to amaze me with her writing. She always has so much emotion in each book she writes and with each book the emotion is stronger. Each of her female characters in her books all have personality Brielle in Not Enough was high in my book, but along comes Paisley Hull. My god this girl is a smart mouthed young girl with high expectations of life and its not going to stop her. Until....
Jake Grant a young man in the Navy full of anger at the world. Jake is the handsome young man that are every girl dreams about with eyes that will go straight to your heart, the one that catches every girls eye the one that is highly thought of by his friends. He went thru a terrible relationship and isn't ready for another. Especially one with a smart mouthed under aged young lady. Guess what....
Paisley Hull is full of ambition and has her goals set to be a lawyer in life. But first she has to get out of high school first and by doing that she has to stand her ground. But with having 5 older siblings she has learned the way to get what she wants. But Paisley is different than her other siblings. She's 16 going on 25 and very mature and smart for someone her age.
Jake and Paisley have a love that is forever and totally consuming. They find each other and both are taken blindsided by the love they feel for each other. Can you walk away from a love that is undying? You cant if you feel the trust between each other is hard to endure. You have to trust and speak your mind to keep a love this strong. Would you re-arrange your life for love? Can Jake and Paisley do it? What do they have to go thru to make sure this love is for real and forever lasting? Could you walk away from a love this strong?
I have read all of Leigh Ann Lunsford's books and by far this is her best work ever. I loved the Parker Siblings series immensely but this book has me feeling emotion in every scene in the book. I felt the sadness, the hurt and most of all, the love! My emotions were on a roller coaster ride in this novel. Leigh Ann has nailed this story and left me emotionally drained. (The best way to feel). She has such passion in the story that just keeps you wanting more and when she's done and she gives you the most perfect H.E.A. ever.
I gave this 5+ stars for the remarkable writing and the emotion you feel when reading it. I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who wants a true love story with that one forever love that just never dies the love that everyone dreams of having.
This story brings us on a journey of one woman one realistic broken woman who is afraid to love. Afraid of the all consuming love that can occur and afraid of being alone and abandoned. A fear she denies and doesn’t realize is their as she runs from any heartache that occurs in relationships of all kinds. A woman stronger than she thinks and one in which we see in her and her friends what we all want and yearn for to be loved. Paisley’s journey is full of ups and downs. She finds beauty where one normally wouldn’t even in relationships that are faulty. She teaches us and learns that although we may be let down by those we love that doesn’t mean that they don’t care or love us. This is a story about love that is endless. that survives and blooms even when distance, time, other people, and heartache occurs. You feel the anguish come off the pages… Your emotions will go through puree as you fall in love and than despise and than fall in love again with both Jake and Paisley. Jake the sailor who is hopelessly in love with Paisley but gets deployed and before leaving finds out a secret that could destroy his relationship so he hides it. Just before Jake leaves to deploy Paisley decides to slip a note in his bag and finds the picture of a beautiful girl in there. this gets Paisley wondering. Fast forward Jake proposes, Paisley accepts but soon things unravel. It seems to Paisley that everyone is getting what they want but her and than she finds out Jake doesn’t want kids and is in indecision. She doesn’t know if she can marry him because of this revelation. Soon they fight and she walks out and now it is her who makes a decision that can ruin her. She leaves her first love and he doesn’t go after her. Jake goes on to marry and to add insult to injury he marries on their day! Paisley is feeling like she will never get the feeling of love back no matter who she finds and never feels that is will be like it was when she was with Jake. Nine years later, Jake is divorces and a chance encounter with an engaged Paisley occurs. Just five weeks before she is set to walk down the aisle. Could this be when things finally happen for them? Can Jake win her back before she makes a mistake and marries another? Neither one of them hasn’t gotten over the other, but now Paisley has a secret… a big secret that will conflict with Jake for the rest of his life no matter what happens. A well written story that will consume you and have you feel the gamut of emotions. A story of a all consuming love that stands the tests of separation and secrets.
Leigh Ann Lunsford's best work yet. This book made me feel so many emotions. I felt excited to watch first love bloom, worried when Pasiley felt smothered and couldn't be herself, sad, angry, glad, amazed, hopeful, turned on, and blown away. This read is a wonderful emotional rollercoaster and I cried excited tears, sad tears, made tears, and happy tears through out the entire story. Pieces of Paisly is amazing and one of my best reads of 2014 ( I've read over 500 books this year). I wish I could give it ten stars. Paisly fell in love with Jake when she was 16 but she's a old soul. He was her first everything. The emotions a girl feels for her first love are hard to describe but they can be epic. This was a epic love until it became a smothering love. Jake fell for the hazel eyed vixen but he resisted at first because of the age difference and the fact that he's in the military and gets deployed a lot. Eventually Jack decides to have a relationship with Paisley. At first it's beautiful and wonderful with just a few bumps in the road. Jake wants what's best for Paisley but forgets to ask her instead he tells her. E entirely Paisley decides that she has lost who she is and walks away. Jake realizes the pressure he has put her through and decides that she needs to be allowed to be a teenager and experience life. Jake moves on a lot quicker than Paisley but this gives her the gumption to move forward with her life. She gets to experience life, makes friends, lovers, travels, and moves. We get to see Paisley find herself and put the pieces of her life back together again.
Flash forward 9 years and Jake is now divorced and runs into a engaged Paisley. Its close to her wedding date. Can Jake convince Pasiley to give thier love a second chance? Can Paisley forgive Jake and move forward? Is it too late for these two? Thier love is a soul mate love that we all wish we could have but Leigh Ann shows us that we are still human and can screw it up. Pasiley's journey to find hersel was a wonderful emotional rollercoaster ride. I'm was pissed at first that Jake and Pasliey allowed it to slip through thier fingers so easily but Pasiley needed to grow up and experience life. Readers get to see how much this journey changes and matures Pasiley. Maybe know she's ready for her soul mate but she needs to learn to forgive first. I can't wait to see what Leigh Ann Lunsgord writes for us next. I'm sure it will be amazing.
I love Leigh Ann's writing but this story blows the other books out of the water! Page one will grab you and hold on to you and not let go until you read the very last sentence. Paisley and Jake's story just flows through the pages and you are yelling, screaming, laughing, crying, any and every emotion you can think of is going through your mind. Paisley is a take no bull kind of girl, which I freaking love. Jake is a take no kind of bull guy, which makes them butt heads a lot. They are perfect for each other from the first moment they look into each other's eyes, but we all know that would be a crap shoot story. So this begins the give and take, love and fight of the story. Paisley is younger than Jake physically but in reality her mind is so much more mature than her 17 year old body, she knows what she wants and when she wants it. She can take more than anyone will give her, she just wants to live her life on her terms and that's something she is fighting everyone in her life for. Jake is in the Navy and feels that it's now or never with Paisley, he tries to control her too much to the point that he's hurting more than helping her. The banter these two through back and forth with each I love, very realistic, like the way you'd talk to your partner. Things aren't always what they seem and these two need to fight for each other to save what great love they have found, but when push comes to shove can they make it? Will they see past all the flaws, all the insecurities? Paisley tries to live a full, happy life but never really feels it. Jake lives his life but Paisley is a constant whether or she is there or not. This story is beautifully written, it truly is a love story with all the ups and downs. It broke my heart into a million pieces, only to Leigh Ann put it back together again but with more love than before. Paisley and Jake make you want that everlasting love, the kind that can never be broken, even when you think it's lost forever, it always there. Leigh Ann really outdid herself with this book, a perfect story with your emotions in a roller coaster seat. Thank you Leigh Ann for writing this beautiful story that has captured my heart!! Keep writing, because I'll read your words forever.
"Sometimes the best ones are the people who make you question yourself, not figure yourself out. You need to feel out of control every once in awhile. but the same person to drive you to the edge of your seat has to be there to reel you in....."
NADBB gets to review a new offering by a favorite author, Leigh Ann Lunsford. It makes us nervous! Will the Queen of Angst take us on a journey like she did in the Parker Sibling series?
Synopsis:
We meet Paisley Hull our heroine on the verge of a life altering decision and it pulls us in immediately.
Paisley was an idealistic teen who fell in love at the age of sixteen. It was the forever kind of love but even so can someone that young hold on and make it last? Life isn't ever easy and seldom clear cut.
Jake Grant gave his heart and soul to Paisley willingly. He was hers lock, stock and barrel. He never dreamed that she would shred him apart at the seams.
Their story really takes off when they meet nine years later.
Can love survive the pain and hurt two young lovers put it through? Can love truly conquer all? Will commitments and life keep our couple from making it work a second time around?
The Review:
The Good:
There is so much to love in this book. Seriously. I have now read all of Leigh Ann's books. She'll even tell you that there was one I wanted to throw at her. That said, this book? This book is heads above her earlier offerings. Paisley is told with a realistic voice and weaves a story that grabs you from the very first page! There's a reason she has so many five star ratings on Amazon.
The Bad:
Believe it or not, I don't like this part! Luckily with Paisley there wasn't a lot. There were a few grammar issues that bothered me mildly. I received an ARC though I figure those were fixed before release. Sometimes the love scenes didn't flow easily for me but for the most part this book was spot on.
The Rating:
4.6 easily
Sometimes we'd lean to 4.8 if the small (and they were very small) things we found were fixed... that's how much we loved Paisley.
I absolutely LOVED this book. I feel like Leigh Ann snuck into my brain and used pieces of my life. I was floored!
Paisley didn't want anything to do with love, guys and all that goes along with it. She's closed herself off, but she didn't anticipate Jake Grant, a sexy Nay man, to enter her life that one fateful summer night.
"I promise to always cat h you."- Jake
She's sixteen, Jake is Twenty. A huge age difference. Here is one of the many similarities of my life. With this age difference comes it's ups and downs.
"She will be mine, for a night, a week, a month, a year... maybe for fucking eternity."- Jake
With secrets kept, and both growing older, their relationship takes a huge hit. ONE SECRET WILL BREAK THEM.
Nine years, numerous relationships and both never forgetting their one true love. With a letter, Paisley will be forced to face her past.
"Your first love will always hold your heart...again, because the suckers destroy it and mutilate it so you aunt give it to anyone else."- Paisley
Is it too late for a second chance? With age has their feelings changed? Is happily ever after ever in the cards for Paisley?
Pieces of Paisley sucked me in! This book touched on many personal levels for me. My husband and I have the same age difference as Pais and Jake. So many times during this book I couldn't stop laughing, Leigh Ann stole my life. LOL! This is a book about first love, first lost, heart ache, forgiveness and so much freaking more. As readers we want so much for these characters. We fall in love with them. Every chapter in this book was just as amazing as the last. I enjoyed seeing Paisley and Jake grown into wonderful adults... sometimes not making the right or smartest decision, but that's what happens in life. We screw up. You won't be able to put this book down, I promise you that. Leigh Ann molds this amazing story. Every book for is just better and better. I also need more!!!!
I’m not sure where to start with this review. I fell in love fast- I guess I could start with saying I was sucked in with a girl who was sassy and fierce, and I love to read about a girl who can throw down with the best of them. Then enter Jake- the first eye contact, the possessiveness, and then the possibility of a relationship we all dream of. Ms. Lunsford's ability to take characters and let them grow, but also let them be human and make mistakes just like we all do will have you falling in deep with them.
Jake and Paisley start out with the way most relationships do- with a look that cements everything. Paisley is young and wise beyond her years. Watching these two make decisions that will affect what is perfect will make you want to drink, scream and cuss the author. These two will break your heart and make you hope all in the same sentence. I knew once he left for the Navy all my hopes of no angst would dissolve in a puddle.
Ms. Lunsford’s writing blew me away. I felt like I was trapped in some other world watching people who I have grown to love- fall apart. That wasn’t ok with me, I felt every damn tear and heart break that each one of these characters felt. I wanted them to build this life, not a life like the one that was ripped from them, but a new one- a better one. Although, at times, I’m pretty sure my jaw dropped open and stayed that way throughout numerous chapters just trying to keep up with the drama, fights and love matches it is well worth all the emotions you will experience from pissed off to wanting to scream…FINALLY.
WOW where to start with this book! I am blown away. This is the best book by Leigh Ann so far! I loved it so much! It has so much passion and heartbreak and all these emotions that you feel right from the beginning. Paisley is a girl in high school, her mom is awesome and is reasonable in letting her go out with Krista. They meet some guys that are in the Navy and they both fall for one. Jake is just coming home from deployment and wants to relax and have fun with no worries. well all that changed when he walked into the house and saw Paisley. He knew nothing about her but the spark was instant. They hit it off super and all is well in the name of love, until he leaves for another deployment. He is holding a secret but won't tell her. They have a fight and Paisley runs for the hills and doesn't look back. She is heart broken and is not living life by any means. They both go through the motions of life and neither on is happy. Paisley grows up and is now in a marketing job and finds someone she is comfortable with but not in love with, he is also her boss. He send her off to a job for the company out of state. She meets Jake's mom for dinner because she misses that relationship so much. Jake has decided to make his life better for him so he buys a house back home. Paisley meets the contractor in charge to drop off the blueprints for the new building and Paisley is in for a real surprise! Will Jake and Paisley get things back in order or will they keep running and never find happiness?
