Invariant: A Graphic Story

Rate this book
Invariant -something does not change under a transformation. In the future a great war has taken a toll on a generation of young soldiers. The injured veterans of the war understand that unless extreme measures are taken - we are going to lose. The battlefield turns to experimental triage to help soldiers become something more but at the cost of being less than human. The gamble works, the war is won, but society is not prepared for the changed soldiers coming back home. They are not returning home as heroes but as a surplus generation no longer needed. The question of what makes someone human has been answered and it isn’t good news for the veterans. Many become homeless, some become servants, the rest go to recycling. Follow the life of one soldier who is thrust into servitude after the war comes to an end. What she finds is the fight is far from over. The graphic content inside this novel deals with themes such as war and domestic abuse. If you are extremely sensitive to either this might not be the book for you. 77 full color pages!

Beautiful

Awesome story. Has great characters and relationships. Deals with a sad, terrible issue really well. The artwork style is amazing and really cool. Completely different then what I usually see and I would almost wish short story's where more like this except that this is unique and I wouldn't want it's uniqueness taken away by that. Awesomeness.

This is a beautifully chilling novel that deals with difficult subjects in a balanced and sensitive way cloaked in a book that is superbly illustrated. The story begins as mankind are once again at war but this time triage is used not only to patch soldiers up but to turn them into something more, something inhuman. The tactic works but when these soldiers return home, they struggle to fit in and the world struggles to adapt to them. With devastating consequences. The artwork carries this through, bringing the cold and violent nature of the story to life. This is certainly not for the faint-hearted but it is so worth reading if you can.

Just...terrible. Might not have been "for me", but this was just horrendous. Not sure which was worse, the art or the story. Definitely didn't care for the way the text was presented. Huge disappointment, all around....glad this was a freebie.
