well there's no need to really review this book it's narrated by Tor Thom and Charley Ongel so you know it's going to be good , but yes even the story line is brilliant especially if your a bit of a 'nerd' and love cosplay and cons' it's starts off with Jaden pretending not to be a frat boy athlete meeting ladybug Ella because she hates frat boy jocks, however it's not long until she finds out who he really is but despite this she carries on 'playing' with him

Played by Love is a wickedly delightful and incredibly breathtaking ride that proves without a doubt that you can’t play love. No matter how good you think you are at dodging and avoiding the call of love, you will never truly outrun it. With no warning it can easily overtake you until you have no choice but to look it in the eye and face the beautiful music. Why fight it? After all, if you don’t have love in your like what do you have?

For a short read, it was a good one. Kept my attention throughout and the characters were easy to like, and the conversation after the book ended had me laughing.

Ella is an anime nerd. She seems sweet but sometimes I wonder if she really lives in this reality. She doesn't like jocks because she thinks they all are alike. But then she meets Jaden who plays on a soccer team as the goalie, and he is one hell of a goalie. He knows that Ella doesn't go out with jocks, so he pretends to be a techno ne

**** "Played by Love" by Rochelle Ayala

Jordan Sloup is the soccer goalie at Berkeley. He is great at what he does and has a chance of potentially going pro.

Ella Kennedy is into technology and gaming and loves anime parties.

Jordan has had his eye on Ella for awhile, yet he knows that she will not date someone who is an athlete and/or in a fraternity. Jordan is both. So he puts a plan into motion to meet and date Ella by hiding the fact that he is an athlete and lives in a fraternity. He also p

I found this book very funny to read and part of me can recognize myself in Ella and how she is and acts. She is a character I have loved in other of Rachelle Ayals books and I then thought I would read this book and give it a go and to get to know Ella a bit better. When I did I realised I really like her and her way of life.

Jaden is a very interesting character that I, in the beginning, didnt know if he was a “good guy” or a “bad guy” but when reading I did fall for me and I did fall hard. I h

What would you do for lust, or love? Rachelle Ayala has done it again. Her writing talent just continues to grow with every new project. I've not read a lot of novellas, so the fast pace was a bit different for me, but it was a fun romp with all the delicious romance and steam you could ask for. I liked Jaden - a sweet man trying to be a macho frat jock, never suspecting that his plans to woo Ella would turn into anything more than a fun time, especially if she ever discovered the truth about hi ...more

Jaden Sloup has one goal in mind - to land Ella Kennedy even though she hates jocks and he is the goalkeeper of his university soccer team.

Ella Kennedy is a bit of a geek, yet a very attractive one and seems to attract a lot of attention where ever she goes, and most is unwanted.

Will Jaden be able to fool Ella long enough to have her fall for him or is he actually in over his head and when push comes to shove will he stand up for love and do the ultimate sacrifice?

The beginning of this book wasn't what I was expecting, both of the main characters are keeping secrets and Jaden seems like kind of an arse, he spent most of the book lying about something before finally getting a clue. Ella comes across as a lot of fun, but I didn't like her keeping secrets either, seems like an awful way to start a relationship.

I loved the cosplay aspect, it's not something I've done, but the descriptions in this book make it sound like a lot of fun.

I really enjoyed the endin

This may be short but it is packed full of a great story! Jaden is the goalie for his college soccer team and has his eye on Ella. Ella is a technology geek, loves gaming and is into anime, but she does not like athletes or frat boys, which rules Jaden out! He figures his way into her life, thinking she has no idea about who he is. A fun fling and off he will go, what he doesn't count on is falling for her. Rachelle Ayala does it again, writing a story where the characters are easy to fall in lo ...more

This a cute short story. Two people can fall in love even though they are from different backgrounds. Ella has stereotyped all guys like Jaden of being an athletic due to a horrible experience with group of athletics. Jaden tries to show Ella that all athletics do not have the same behavior. Ella decides in the end that Jaden has just played her like everyone else and he can’t love a nerd like her. Especially, since he lied to her about who he really is when they first met. She needs to let him ...more

A Soccer jock pretends to be a computer nerd to get a cosplaying nerd girl in this light, short NA romance.
The frat boy crowd are portrayed as serious neanderthals in a post-#METOO world and there are a lot of rape culture references which make the story topical but many of the characters hard to love.
On the up side, Nerd Girl turns out to be a lot smarter than she appear and the soccer jock's not nearly as much of a neanderthal as his friends and the other jock types, so there's that.

As always Rachelle writes amazing stories. You can’t get enough of her stories. The narrating team of Tor Thom and Charley Onegel bring the story to life . Both of them are amazing. Actually all 3 are . This story is about don’t make plans in life because it will throw you a curve .

Hero is Jaden. Heroine is Ella .
Jaden is a goalie on a soccer team . He thinks everything in life is planned out and you don’t expect anything new . He thinks that love isn’t real.

The story is good. It is a New adult, with both characters in college, one a frat boy and soccer player the other a big cosplay lover and nerd. I love all of Rachelle's books. She creates very compelling characters and tough I never connected and at times did not like Jaden, the characters are realistic and compelling.
Charley Ongel and Tor Thom are great narrators and on their own bring stories to life but put them together and oh my what a fabulous duo. They don't just switch chapters but seaml

He wants the girl, but she isn’t into jocks. So he disguises himself as a nerd. Sparks fly, but it soon becomes apparent that this little charade can’t work. Something has to give, it’s going to far and someone or both are going to get hurt. Then the inevitable happens, thank you Tor Thom and Charley Ongel for this Audible Novella, I loved how you added your own little cheering chant into the story. You always crack me up with your sound effects.
Played by Love (Audiobook), my fourth read from author Rachel Ayala. Typical humorous romantic fare, steamier than her other works I'd read, with some unexpected twists. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing. Tor Thom & Charley Ongel’s tag-team narration adds to the book's enjoyment. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018). ...more

Ella doesn't like jocks or sports.
Karen is a goalie and plays sports. He wants to me her and pretends to be a nerd.
They both play each other.
They both end up hurting each other, but end up falling in love with each other.
This is # 33 on my BNB Challenge.

Love great enough to overcome preconceived barriers.
All elements of a great romance.
Admittedly the conflict was a bit... late and fleeting, but the story was absorbing.

I wanted to really love this book. I enjoyed the characters in The Last Contestant, and was excited to read more about Jaden's story, but it fell flat for me. It's a novella, so I get that it's a short read, but the story skips all over the place. Everything feels rushed. I didn't connect with Ella at all. In fact, I didn't really like her. She came off as annoying. I really liked Jaden though! He grew on me as the book progressed. Ella never did.

While the grammar is primarily clean, that's about all the good I can say about this short story. Full of stereotypes, no-depth characters and horrible cliches, particularly during romance scenes, made what could've been a sweet romantic story into something not worth reading. The Cos-Play angle was over the top, as was the emphasis on race. The whole "say it out loud / louder so I can get a recording of consent, without telling you that I'm recording it" was weird to say the least. ...more
