I listened to the audiobook of this one. I just love these two narrators! Stephanie Rose and Stephen Dexter! They pulled me in completely and transported me to Aspen Lake and all of the adventures that Brooke and Logan experience. The emotion and joy within the book shown through perfectly! Another favorite audiobook and book!
***********************************************

Y'all, I was crying! CRYING!!! It wasn't throughout the whole book but there were just parts, especially in the last scenes, that just hit me hard! Good crying. And feeling all the emotions crying!

Brooke is spending the summer in Aspen Lake due to a request from her mom in the form of a bucket list! Roxanne, Brooke's mom, has recently passed away and has a plan for her daughter. I loved it all! We don't get to meet Roxanne as a living character but she breathed so much life into this story through the love she had for her daughter, and her love and zest for life. Brooke reflected a lot of who her mom was and was just this delightful breathe of fresh air and joy! I couldn't help but smile so big over Brooke's personality. Just as I noticed the joy of her character, the other characters in the book did as well. She just had a way of breezing into everyone's lives and leaving them happier and seeing life in a different way. You're going to adore her!!!

Logan, aka, Dr. Summers, is broody and holding onto the memory of his dead wife and their relationship. He's trying to live life, but sorrow and memories can have a funny hold on us sometimes. And cue Brooke to enter his life! He'll never know what hit him and his life will never be the same. The question is, will he embrace the goodness of Brooke, or stay in his brooding sorrow?

You might think you will know how it is all going to end, but let me tell you, there are twists and turns and surprises throughout the book. You're going to find yourself creating your own bucket list, or lists, and wanting to cross everything off!!!

Oh my heart! I had such a busy schedule that I it took me a while to sit and read this one but I want to go and immerse myself in the story again. I'm still thinking about all of it. The characters, the setting (I want to go live by a lake for the summer), the sorrow, the healing, finding friends and love. All of it!!!

Brooke and Logan had me laughing and giggling and swooning throughout the whole story. They are perfect for each other, if only Logan can see that. Their first meeting was hysterical! If I had been drinking something while reading that, I probably would have spit it out laughing so hard. I loved how Brooke kept Logan on his toes. He never knew what she was going to do. And that was a big part of her charm. She is so sincere and honest and loving and forgiving.

I loved all of the music aspects that were in the book. And Brooke's podcast just felt so whimsical and healing. Honestly, her mom Roxanne was the heart of this story!

I hope you love it as much as I did if you read the book! And remember, you might want some tissues on hand when you do! Fair warning!!!

Content: Pg-13 rating. There is nothing more than kissing in the book, some making out between the two main characters. Talk of divorce, death of a spouse and of parents. Some talk of a child born out of wedlock but nothing in depth. Some mild swear words scattered throughout the book.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

Ahh!! This book is absolutely adorable! I didn’t want to put it down!!

Brooke’s mom left her a Summer Bucket List to complete in Aspen Lake before sue passed away and Brooke is determined to complete everything on that list! Putting first things first, she crashes on her bike and winds up in the ER being treated by the hottest doctor she has ever seen. Dr. Logan Summers! Can he move past the death of his first wife to help Brooke complete her list?

These two were so dang cute! I loved the instant chemistry Brooke and Logan had! Their meet cute was adorable and Brooke’s rambling getting away from her was so cute and funny! I loved her random questions, her friendly demeanor, and her zest for life! I also loved Logan and that despite his slightly brooding exterior, he was so sweet to Brooke and protective of her.

Such a cute, fun summer read!!

I hope to never know the hurt of losing a spouse, but I felt like this book encapsulated what my feelings might be on grieving my wife, especially in the context of maybe moving on.

I loved Brooke, the FMC, and I enjoyed this story tremendously. If you take all the songs name-dropped in this book, it would be a heckuva playlist.

It may not be officially summer, but I'm counting this as my first summer read!! After losing her mom, Brooke goes to Aspen Lake to fulfill the bucket list her mom left behind, filled with sweet (and sometimes slightly embarrassing) things she wanted Brooke to experience—like “Have a summer fling.” Not exactly Brooke’s comfort zone, but she’s determined to honor her mom’s final wish.

While trying to complete items on the bucket list, Brooke ends up in the ER with minor injuries. Enter Dr. Logan Summers, the broody, ridiculously handsome next-door neighbor with a guarded heart and some baggage. Their first meeting is hilariously awkward, and their relationship gets off to a rocky start, but as the summer unfolds, so does their friendship—you can’t help but root for them.

There's so much to love about this book:
🩺 The hilarious meet-cute
🩺 Brooke and Logan's chemistry
🩺 Watching their friendship turn into something more.
🩺 Forced proximity thanks to the bucket list
🩺 Swoony kisses
🩺 Dual POV
🩺 The epilogue

I loved how completing the summer bucket list provided the perfect opportunity for Brooke and Logan's relationship to develop. What I loved just as much as the romance was Brooke’s journey to finding her place with the people she meets.

This book is full of charm, heart, and swoon. If you’re in the mood for a feel-good romance with a slow-burn love story, lovable side characters, and a mix of funny and tender moments, definitely give Paging Dr. Summers a read. It might start as a fling, but this one sticks with you.

I like a widower trope. This one was good. I just he obsessed over his perfect wife for 2/3rds of the book and it make its hard to not feel like the h is second best. I understand he had a first love and that you can’t expect him not to hold her in his heart but he glorified her for so much of the book sometimes the h deserves better. I believe in the end he did realise he loved her and I bet he’ll grow to love her more than Erika I just wish it wasn’t 2/3rds of how wonderful Erika was

(6/19/25) I just read this book and it was a scrumptious treat to listen to Stephanie Rose and Stephen Dexter bring this story to life. I loved it every single bit as much as I did the first time.

Brooke’s sunshine attitude towards life and her summer bucket list written by her mother are pure joy. I loved checking things off, just as she did, and the way she babbles brings a smile to my face.

Logan has every reason to be a grump and to resist Brooke’s irresistible glow, yet even his storm clouds can’t remain untouched by her radiance. I loved how he fights so hard to withstand her charms.

This is a summer must-read…or listen. So swoony, so much fun, and such a beautiful buzz.

(6/9/25) ‘“I’m sorry, I keep rambling. Attractive men make me nervous, and I also hate hospitals.” Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh. Did I really just tell him I find him attractive?’

Jennifer Peel knocked it out of the park with this beautiful summer story. Logan and Brooke are messy perfection in all their individual glory, and I couldn’t get enough.

Logan, an ER doctor, is recovering from the death of his wife and Brooke is new in town, looking to fulfill the summer bucket list her deceased single mom gave her. Their meet-cute had me laughing and every interaction between these two gave me feelings of hope, longing, and all the swoon. They each have issues to resolve, growth to develop, and answers to find, and the way they do it together, meshing these opposite backgrounds, is sublime.

I love the way this author writes, as she brings in emotion with the humor; touches on pain with all the promises; breathes life and attitude into all the characters; and delivers a glorious escape. Who knew that the line “Paging Dr Summers” would change Brooke’s life and mine?

🍓classic rock songs

From the first bucket list item to the bonus last, I was captivated by this story.

The Brief: Brooke heads to Aspen Lake to fulfill the bucket list her mother left behind. She ends up in the ER mouth vomiting over the totally handsome Dr. Summers.

The Debrief: Ohmyswoonylanta! Besides the fact that we get to head back to Aspen Lake and peek at beloved characters, this story is the perfect summer evening with a warm fire and chocolate. Logan is mourning his wife and wants nothing to do with any of Brooke’s sunshine and definitely be far away from her bucket list. But Brooke is determined to be his friend and she’s the most endearing person who brings the happy everywhere she goes. I loved her! Such great banter from this amazing author!

So the music references totally hit my heart. My dad loved listening to music and when I was very young I would lay on the floor with my feet on the fireplace step listening to records. And a gorgeous crooner? Remember my Harry Connick Jr. crush? Every word was the perfect start to my summer reading and I can’t even with the excitement of an audio. Brooke was everything good and light and her desire to truly understand and embrace a different happy was so sweet. And I sort of relate to her over sharing. Ask well… anyone.

The entire ending and epilogue was just so dreamy. I’m high key gushing, but was able to pretty much read this in one sitting and it just hit all the feels.

-pineapple story
-her music podcast
-their hilarious meet cute
-small town lake living
-so many life heart quotables
-camping and singing
-strong friendships
-twisty heart tugging surprises
-Logan’s bucket list
-visiting him at the hospital

The Rhyme: Brooke thinks Logan is perfect for a summer fling. When real feelings start will his heart try to once again sing?

Loved going back to Aspen Lake and want to return again! Complimentary copy. My own obsessive thoughts. Add this to your summer reading list! Kissing only. Very mild swearing.

I absolutely loved @jen’s newest release—it’s the perfect summer read! ☀️📚 From the adorable meet-cute to the multiple bucket list, this book had me hooked from the start.

I really enjoyed watching Logan’s character growth and loved the friendships Brook shared with Logan, Eden, and Lola. The bucket list moments were so fun to follow, and I loved seeing Brook check off each one.

I also appreciated that the story took place over several months—it gave the romance and character development time to really unfold. I devoured this book in less than a day, and I already want to reread it! 💛

"How I ever thought she was a hot mess..."

"How I ever thought she was a hot mess, I’ll never know. I’d come to realize that her brand of crazy was just passion."

Not a fan of the mild cursing, and steamy kissing. Aside from those aspects this story was filled with laugh out loud moments, tender interactions, heartbreaking realizations, and feel good fun.

"“I’ve always found it helps to share your pain. It doesn’t seem as scary then. Hurt out loud. Scream if you have to.” She laughed that melodious laugh of hers. “Just let it out so it doesn’t keep you comfortably numb. Because as pacifying as it may be, remember you’re only numbing the pain, and no anesthetic lasts forever. The pain will still be waiting for you. It’s best to meet it on your terms. It takes a special woman to want to fix what she didn’t break."

Absolutely adorable! I love books that blend romance, humor, and poignancy, and this one does it so well. It was funny, swoony, and full of so much heart and emotion.

When Brooke’s mom passed away, she gifted Brooke with an unexpected inheritance and a summer in Aspen Lake. Her mom also gave her a bucket list to complete while she was there, including having a summer fling.

Determined not to let her mom down, Brooke is ready to complete each item. She has an embarrassing not-so-meet-cute with Dr. Logan Summers—her handsome new neighbor. She wouldn’t mind having a summer romance with Logan, but he lost his wife a year earlier and has a guarded heart and no desire for any kind of romance.

After a rocky start, their relationship grows into a lovey friendship filled with laughter, adventure, and some undeniable sparks. As their connection grows, Logan struggles with the guilt he feels because of his strong attraction to Brooke, but his loyalty to his wife. Brooke is falling hard for him, but doesn’t want to live in the shadow of his seemingly perfect wife.

Their time together turns into a magical summer of love and healing, but can it be something more permanent and lasting?

I loved these two characters! Brooke is wonderfully fun and quirky, and I loved her kindness, wisdom, and adventurous spirit. Logan was a sweetheart. His hurt was tangible and you could understand why he was so guarded. It was the sweetest thing to watch his heart heal and be able to move on.

One of my favorite things about this book is the musical references. I love 70s classic rock, and this story is full of references and background stories about some great songs and bands.

If you’re looking for an engaging and fun summer read, I highly recommend this gem!

I thought

This was a meet-awkward! I was second hand embarrassed for her!

The list sounded fun! I made triple Chocolate Cookies too!

Both Brooke and Logan are grieving (reminded me of the book Compared by: Keisel). I appreciated the message of how to keep living while carrying grief.

I loved ♥️

Brooke forms special bonds with many people. The found family was done so well.

Brooke's mom is her inner voice throughout the story. I loved her character.

Talk about opposites attract! Logan Summers and Brooke could not be more different and it totally works.

This is my favorite Jennifer Peel book yet!

I adored this rom-com!!

This author is one of my favorites, but this book was not what I was expecting. I love how she can still do that! The whole premise of the book had me thinking the plot would go in a certain direction, and while some of it did, I was blown away by the intricate character development and depth to this story.

First of all, Brooke is flippin’ awesome. She’s a rockstar of a protagonist and definitely someone I would want to be friends with. I loved her spunk, quirky questions, and positive outlook on life. Dr Summers, aka Logan, was dreamy, yet there was much more to him than I originally assumed. These two together were like fireworks on Independence Day, and I loved the romantic comedy as well.

Overall, another fantastic book that will give you fun and interesting characters, hilarious comedy, a deeper delve into difficult human emotions, and a sweet and swoony romance that will definitely leave your toes curling at the end (and the beginning, and the middle… okay, so it might be throughout the entire book!).

Awesome!

I have enjoyed all of the Aspen Lake books so much! Brooke (heroine) was so sweet, good hearted, funny, talented and also emotionally intelligent. She is grieving the death of her mother, completing the bucket list her mother gave for her to do and making the whole town of Aspen Lake fall in love with her....especially a certain doctor. Logan (hero) is a serious minded ER doctor who is grieving his wife and struggling with shame and guilt. He and Brooke had many emotional hurdles to surmount, and many challenges to overcome....it was so heartwarming to see them finally come together. A beautiful heartwarming read that I recommend ❤️

This book was so cute! A fun summer fling filled with laughter, and embarassment. And even an epic meet-cute (excuse me) meet-trauma, depending on if you view it from Logan's or Brooke's point of view. Brooke finds all kinds of fun and new experiences by fulfilling her mom's dying wish: that she complete a bucket list her mom made her using a surprise fund that the dad she never knew left her. Brooke is a lovable character who makes friends easily everywhere she goes. Her personality is bubbly, happy, easy-going, and in search of making great friendships with those around her. She's musical, talented, and allows her passions to guide her in life. I really enjoyed her character. This book was a perfect summer read, easy to pick up & set down as I ran from place to place on my own summer vacation!

This book brought out all the emotions it was so good. Brooke comes to Aspen Lake to check off the items on a bucket list that her mother gave to her before she passed away. Logan is grieving his wife, whom he lost two years ago. When he meets Brooke, he tries really hard not to have anything to do with her.
This book had me laughing out loud and near tears. What a tender story and a romantic read.

Swooniest summer romance!!

Brooke arrives in Aspen Lake for the summer, determined to fulfill her late mother's summer bucket list. At the top of the list? Have a summer fling. When she meets Dr. Logan Summers, he seems like the perfect match, but it's clear he's still deeply in love with his late wife. A romance appears unlikely, but an unexpected friendship grows between them.

Dr. Logan Summers guards his heart behind a wall of grief and guilt, but he cannot help his growing attraction to Brooke and the joyful way she lives her life. But pursuing her, even for a summer fling, is destined to end in heartbreak for them both.

What you'll love:
summer romance
dual pov
neighbors/forced proximity
ER doctor MMC
opposites attract
unforgettable meet cute
age gap
found family
bucket list
small town vibes
so much heart and depth!
classic rock references
swoony chemistry
ALL THE FEELS
all the summer kisses!
perfect epilogue!

Be still my summer loving heart! This book was pure summer sunshine and happiness and I soaked the goodness on every single page! I am in a total book hangover now but I don't even care - all I want to do is start back on page one and fall in love with these characters all over again!

I loved Brooke and Logan together from the hilarious and unforgettable meet-cute through the bucket list and beyond, and whether they were just friends or a summer fling or something more, I loved the way they supported and protected each other while also giving the other the space they needed to heal. So many unexpected surprises and oh my word, THAT KISS!! I can't even with all the summer swoon.

Pick this book up for the swoony starlit summer romcom, stay for the small town setting, the beautiful friendships, the healing and forgiveness, the laugh out loud moments and the ones that will make you cry, and a romance with so much heart and depth that you will fall in love with the genre all over again.

This is the perfect summer to fall in love with Brooke and Logan and their adorable romance!

Oh holy swooniness in a heart shaped shell! Y'all. I can't even begin to tell you how much I adored this book!

I have been in one of those dread reading ruts for MONTHS. The only books I've been able to read are ones that I have already read multiple times. And let me tell you... that gets old. So when I woke up yesterday morning and actually had the desire to read something new, I immediately grabbed this baby.

*dreamy sigh*

Best. Decision. Ever!

From the moment Brooke and Logan met, there was an instant connection. One that Brooke wanted to embrace and had Logan wanting to run for the hills. But we've all read enough romance books to know that our beloved characters can't outrun Fate. And, in Brooke and Logan's case, can't outrun Roxanne.

If I had to describe their story, I would have to say it's magical, full of heart, unwavering love, brimming with adventures, hope, self discovery, and so many swoony moments that will have you turning into a bio ol' pile of ooey gooey goodness over and over and over again. Their story is absolutely beautiful and just what the doctor ordered.

Ms. Peel never ceases to amaze me. Her books have a way of capturing me and transporting me to a place full of adventures and wonder with characters you just can't help but fall in love with. Aspen Lake will forever hold a special place in my heart. I can't wait to go back for another visit!

As for my casting... I'm kind of in love... *dreamy sigh*

This book is actually about Erica, Logan's (MMC) wife who passed away. He had so much love for her throughout the entire book, it felt like it Brooke (FMC) was a supporting character in her own story.

It sucked how this book was trying to normalize putting someone who came before you, as your lover's partner, first. I had hoped I could finally like another book about widows but this just was not going to be that. Unfortunately, one book had only ever done it well for me and that was "It Happened One Summer". The kind where there was still respect to their loved one who passed, but still learn the process on how to move on and learn how to fall in love all over again.

Why was moving on so feared in this book? It literally said, you don't need to move on, in the context of loving his wife who passed and instead accepting the possibility of Brooke but dang. it felt like he was never mentally ready enough to be in a new relationship. It was my first time reading a book where their love was centered in worshiping the other's previous lover. Nobody said you had to erase her, but they should have let Erica rest in peace, why was she brought up every 5 seconds.

The romance never truly felt like Brooke and Logan's. I really was misled by the blurb. It was more like Brooke was borrowing space in a love story that had already ended. I was originally rooting for them, but every time there was a hint of emotional progress, the narrative pulled back to remind of the late wife. It’s one thing to honor grief, but another to let it dominate every new beginning.

This book felt so condescendingly paradoxical. Implying "she's not going to be in Erica's shadow" then proceeds to finish the book doing exactly that. By the end, I was not touched but exhausted. No romance book should sell the idea of a woman's love story ending with her being a comforting fangirl for her lover's "wife".

If you're going to judge a book by its cover, Paging Dr. Summers should be the one.

Once you’ve swooned over the gorgeous cover, read the dedication.
Now you’re ready for the bucket list, our old friends from Aspen Lake, and the perfect musical references.
Take your time and savor every page.

While this is a romcom with plenty of hysterical moments, Brooke and Logan are each experiencing seasons of grief.
Brooke is a classic rock aficionado and podcast host. She’s candid and vulnerable— willing to open herself up to new experiences, new friends, and possibly even new love as she works through her grief.

Logan is guarded, broody, and closed off from his feelings— trying to live up to impossible expectations that only exist in his mind. He hasn’t truly been himself in years, but when his intriguing and quirky ER patient becomes his neighbor for the summer, he can’t help but ache for all he’s been missing.

If you typically avoid books that deal with loss, I want to urge you not to skip this one. Trigger warnings are valuable. I understand grief comes in stages, but healing is a journey.
I wholeheartedly encourage you to walk part of your journey in the safety of these pages… with Brooke and Logan.
You won’t want to miss a thing.

This is one of my favorite books so far this year! I've read it and I just bought my own physical copy for my bookshelf. Yup, I love it!

Brooke and Logan are two very likable characters. As the book progresses, you get more and more of their stories and you just cannot help but feel for them and all they have been through. From their first interaction, you just know good things are coming. And you really want that for them!

I loved how much "Brooke and Logan time" I had from the very beginning. They did so many things together, thanks to Brooke's list. Friendship bloomed and attraction was crackling. There were so many fun, swoony, romantic and crazy drama moments. It hit all my favorite things when I read this genre of book. It filled me with happiness. I want Brooke to be my friend. She's kind, thoughtful, courageous, smart, loves music and her mama. She's my new favorite character.

The ending might be one of my favorite moments too. Brooke with her "women". It felt so right and strong and empowering. Because when women support other women, amazing things happen.

I love, love, love this book. So much love. I can't wait to read it again!

ARC Review⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5’s

Thank you to the author @jpeel_author for the #gifted book.

This book is everything I want in a summer romance—fun, flirty, full of heart, and completely swoon-worthy! When a grumpy ER doc crosses paths with a sunshiney radio host on a mission to check off her bucket list, sparks fly and emotions run deep. With a small-town lake setting, forced proximity, and an undeniable age-gap attraction, Paging Dr. Summers hits all the romance sweet spots.

What I especially loved was how real and grounded the characters felt—flaws, fears, and all. Their personal growth throughout the story made the romance even more satisfying. The banter was sharp, the emotions were raw, and the chemistry was undeniable.

Told in dual POV, you get to feel all the tension, chemistry, and emotional moments from both sides, and trust me, the swoony kisses are next level. 💋 Jennifer Peel nails the opposites attract trope and reminds us why her stories always leave us smiling. This is a must-read for anyone who loves a heartfelt romance with humor, heart, and happily ever afters.
