Wow, this book was something else. I'm not sure what I think about it, except that it was quite good and well written. The plot was refreshingly different from the books I usually read. The characters were interesting, and the story was beautiful and a bit tragic. To be honest I'm a bit speechless, and I'm not sure what to make of the book. I doubt I ever will. A strange little gem of a book. The prose is fluid and lyrical, and the story about a young girl's infatuation with an older man is haunting and convincing. Having a terminally ill mother and living away from her family at bording school makes her eager for the attention given to her by this knowledgeable older man whom she meets at a party hosted in her honour as she visits her parents in France over the summer.
