Rate this book
The Bible can feel overwhelming, but studying it is easier and more exciting than you think.

Christians are supposed to love the Bible, right? They're supposed to tell Bible stories, explain their beliefs, and recite favorite verses from memory.

But Scripture is sometimes hard to read! It can be complex, boring (yes, you can say that), and difficult to apply. Many of us carry secret shame about how little we read the Bible. We want to grow as Christians, but we don't know how.

Faith Womack understands those feelings. Growing up in a home where Bible verses were used to control her, she yearned to grow close to God but found the Bible confusing and boring. After a spiritual wakeup in college, she discovered the life-changing power of real Bible study. Free of the spiritual abuses of her past, she has devoted her life to helping readers like you get excited about Bible reading.

In No More Boring Bible Study, you

Overall, this was pretty good. I loved the last half of the book and really enjoyed her passion for the Bible. I definitely learned a lot, though some parts were more for beginners. Yet, other parts went quite deep!

The author wrote in this very hyperactive tone of voice that was sometimes a bit distracting and patronizing, but I know from watching her YouTube videos that that is just sort of the way she talks, haha. As usual, I find Christian women-writers have this annoying tendency to add the silliest anecdotes/object lessons to "make their point," (but doesn't), and this book was no exception, haha. You know the stories that go something like, "The other day, my kid did this super cute, hilarious thing... that's just like what our relationship with Jesus is like!!!" 😆🙄🙄 Yeah, there were a lot of those.

Still, I appreciate the author and saw no major flaws by any means. I did love the sections explaining how to study the various sections of Scripture. I definitely would recommend to young ladies or beginners Bible study enthusiasts! It definitely inspired me to study the Word!

I received an ARC of this book that I won in a giveaway from Goodreads. I put my name in the hat for the drawing because I’m a Bible college grad who has gotten caught up in life and looking for a book to help rekindle that fire to do more personal Bible study.

I enjoyed this book, it was a page-turner for me. The author did a good job of explaining how to look at each book of the Bible for the proper context and interpretation.

What I think the book lacked was bringing up Bible study resources earlier in the book: commentaries, dictionaries, Bible study software. These were all mentioned at the end of the book when I was getting worn out and ready to finish reading.

The book is divided up in easy-to-read chapters along with “Bible Nerd Notes.” I think it’d be a decent resource for a Bible study or life group.

Overall, I’d give this book a 3.75 stars. It wasn’t everything I was expecting or wanting, but it lit a spark to kick me into gear… and that’s important. I would recommend this book.

In a perfect world, someone gets saved and then reads this book (not neglecting reading the Bible ofc). And then comes back 6 months to a year later, and reads it again. Then in a few more years, or whenever they need to remember the power of the book they hold in their hands, they read it again.

I can’t help but to think of all of the errors, fallacies, and outright lies that I would have avoided about scripture if my 18 year old self would have had this.

Praise God I have it now and a book like this exists in the world for those who want to hold scripture highly, use it rightly, and see the glory of God in all its pages.

My favorite favorite part about this book is how she emphasizes that at the end of the day, studying the Bible should cause you to worship God more!

It's difficult to know exactly how to rate this book.

There was a lot of really good information here. I could see how this would be a helpful resource for someone who didn't know *how* to study the Bible.

HOWEVER, the author shares beliefs about salvation and doctrinal issues as though these things aren't worth "arguing" about. Truth is truth, and the Bible is clear about salvation, specifically baptism. So, with this thought in mind, I couldn't and won't suggest this book to a new student of the Word. I'm afraid it would be too confusing.

This book starts by explaining a bit about the author and her past. She explains how her father used scripture to manipulate his family and to justify his sins and sinful nature. Instead of letting this turn the author away from scripture and God, she used this as fuel to research and learn the Bible and word of God for herself.

She has helpful tips on how to find a Bible, a Bible study, and offers a Bible study within these pages as well.

From her story, it is apparent that she takes the true meaning of scripture seriously and wants to help people find truth.

As eye catching as the title is, it’s not my favorite.

All the good stuff first. This is a book I wish someone had put in my hand day one, and one that I will recommend to the women I'm privileged to lead. It is the perfect resource for the new believer, the old believer who has been diminished (more on that in a minute), for discipleship relationships, and for small group study. If you have a Bible but you're not sure what you're supposed to do with it, this book answers your questions. I could not be more grateful for it in the marketplace, or for the bright young voice behind it. Press on good and faithful servant (you can stop reading here, the rest of this is mostly for your publisher).

That said, I wish the delivery had more academic rigor and less "my-big-sister" or "my-sweet-friend" jargon. Why, why, why are women always diminished to this level? The footnotes in the book clearly reveal an author with the ability to write with depth for a reader she trusts can read at the same depth... the true treasure of this book is down there, at the bottom of the page!! I mostly blame the publishing industry and their cookies-on-the-bottom shelf mentality about material for women (or youth), and also... well... women! When will we start to demand more for ourselves? So... content great... delivery... oh so tired, trite, and demeaning. I'm sorry, Ms. Womack (if you kept reading), you're a victim in it all too because of your established platform (the publisher's cash-cow). I pray you won't be stuck and limited by that forever.

My other critique of the content would be that she does a lot of telling us what we should think, and some of that is absolutely necessary, but it pitches toward her interpretation as the 'right' one instead of equipping the reader to think for themselves. Almost like a commentary (*wink). It is helpful in paces, intrusive in others.

Overall, however, this is a terrific resource that readers can launch from because it is truly only an overview (as she says, herself). The riches of her resources - again in the footnotes - are where the reader should go next. I would add to them: Bill Mounce, Why I Trust the Bible; Meade and Gurry, Scribes and Scripture; Alex Goodwin, The Bible Reset; Mark Yarbrough, How to Read the Bible Like a Seminary Professor; and Leland Rykan, How to Read the Bible as Literature. None of these books, or those she mentioned, will talk to you like you're a simpleton, but they don't overreach either. Keep learning! This book is just the beginning.

I was expecting more chapters on how to study versus a breakdown of all the biblical genres and how to read them.

While none of this is new to me, I enjoyed a refresher and I felt that the chapters were relatively quick to read.

I deleted my first review of this book. I think that even being honest, I was unnecessarily rude. I want to be sincere, the truth is that from what Faith said on her channel and the name of the book, I thought it would revolutionize the way I read the Bible. For me, it's a simplified version of How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth, and I prefer more cultured language when we talk about Bible study.
If you are a novice Christian who has difficulty with the language of some books on Bible study, this may be a good option for you. If you are used to more elaborate language, the book mentioned is more appropriate (in my opinion).
The truth is that I am very unhappy with Faith's apolitical tone, especially when I think in terms of scope. She wants to reach the largest number of people, and I felt that there was a very superior air in the book at some points. So when she made a comment about having a bad president, I felt irritated. With all the talk about DT, I thought to myself, yet another one. Another one complaining with a full belly. Maybe I'm too sensitive after so many years of complaining, because with all his many flaws, I, who live in Brazil, would like to have a president like him, who is at least trying. This world is only going from bad to worse, and Jesus is the way, but I believe that with our vote, we can make some difference in our lives and in the lives of other people.
The chapter on the law is still a tragedy of bad arguments, and finally, I have to mention that Faith didn't like the MomBear apologetics because of the way she included the day-to-day life of a mother and housewife in her book, but she did exactly the same thing.
Finally, I am saddened to know that many families suffer from the distortion of the word and I am glad that Faith has found the truth. This is her first book, and may God continue to bless her and may many more books be produced, each with better quality.

DNF: This book does not live up to its title. No More Boring Bible Study promises depth and vitality but delivers a rigid, repetitive, and oddly joyless approach to Scripture. The framework-heavy method (especially Creation–Fall–Redemption–Consummation) is pressed insistently, then inconsistently walked back as “helpful but not necessary,” leaving the reader unclear on what is foundational and what is optional.

The book relies on speculative assumptions, false dichotomies, and weak illustrations—often presenting imagined audience reactions or interpretations as though they were grounded in history or exegesis.

Personal engagement with Scripture is frequently treated as suspect, while “correct” posture is elevated in a way that feels more legalistic than formative. The result is a tone that is corrective and prescriptive rather than invitational.

While the author shows reverence for Scripture, the relationship presented feels distant and impersonal. Scripture is discussed as something to manage correctly rather than encounter relationally. Much of the writing reads less like thoughtful teaching and more like talking through ideas without fully examining them.

James 3:1 warns that teachers will be judged more strictly. That verse lingered with me throughout this book—not because teaching Scripture is wrong, but because doing so requires clarity, humility, and care. Too often here, confidence outpaces substance.

This may function as a very basic introduction for brand-new readers, but for anyone with theological literacy or a lived, relational faith, the book is more likely to frustrate than inspire.

I have to admit, this book feels a bit more elementary than I was expecting. Especially after watching Faith critiqued a number of theologically shallow books by other women (including books like mama bear apologetics about her usage of personal anecdotes ), I was hoping this would be a more substantial read... maybe she intended this for a different audience

I didn’t encounter much that feels new or particularly insightful. That may just be a matter of personal preference... I tend to gravitate toward meatier reads, especially when it comes to topics like hermeneutics. Much of the content seems to overlap with what’s already covered in other “how to read the Bible” resources
This may simply come down to my personal reading preference or her intended audience

I like these… as good beginners books to understand and appreciating the Bible
Savoring Scripture or Ray Lubeck’s work.

For those looking for a deeper dive, I’d highly highly recommend How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth as well as Robert Stein’s A Basic Guide to Interpreting the Bible.

That being said... There are a few things I really appreciate about her book. her writing style is very conversational and easy to read if you’re not much of a reader. I also like that she goes over some of the basics, like explaining different types of literature, since a lot of people tend to see the Bible mainly as a book of rules or promises. I hope this ends up being a helpful resource for people who are picking up the Bible and reading it cover to cover for the first time.
I definitely don’t mean to discourage anyone from enjoying this book ❤️

I loved this book! Faith clearly has a passion for getting people into the Word and inspired to dive deeper. I felt like it gave a great overview of the Bible and how to dive in more deeply. It is definitely a beginner book and I will have my kids all read it. I’ve recommended to lots of people. If you’ve taken her Bible Study Bootcamp course, there isn’t really any new information in this book. But it is written in a really attainable, approachable way that is a great refresher and worth revisiting in the future. I enjoyed the Bible Nerd Notes and the actionable steps to apply what she addresses. I’m slowly going back and working through those. Faith’s voice was strong in this book. If I wasn’t familiar with her already, and her bubbly, fun, active personality I could see that being a little distracting. In general, I definitely prefer less personal testimony and little stories than this book had. I did appreciate it in this book because I know who Faith is, and could picture her and her kids, but if she was a complete stranger I know I would not have enjoyed that part. I can see why she included it though, as it shares why she’s credible and worth listening to about this topic, it’s just not my preference in this type of book. I would love to see a more in depth version of the book that cut out the extra personal stories and dove it a little deeper or covered more theology or hot topics. Definitely worth the read & I know it’ll be a book I return to in the future as a reference!

This book by Faith is worth a read for anyone wanting to start reading the Bible and those already doing so.
She simplifies difficult terms and explains things I often think pastors assumes we know when we attend church and follow Jesus, but we actually don’t.
Sunday sermons don’t explain what Hermeneutics ,exegesis, the Pentateuch or substitutionary atonement is.
Or that the Bible was written for us but not about us.
Why do we know the Bible is true? Where did it come from?
Who wrote it why?
What do we need to know for context, the culture and how does is apply to our lives? What resources can we use to help us better understand and enjoy learning about the Bible?
Bible translations their place and purpose.
This and many more topics in the book explain a lot of ‘Bible basics’.
If we don’t know these things we often misuse and misinterpret the Bible.
Or maybe I’ve just been living under a rock, but I truly only learnt about all these things in the last 3years and I had to go looking for them.
I had faith but really did struggle with Bible reading because it is boring when you don’t understand what is going on.
The richness of God story redeeming His people for His glory.
Her easy writing style and personal testimonies also makes the book funny, sad and enjoyable but more than anything real and for the ‘ordinary Christian’
And of course her Bible nerd You Tube channel shows her authenticity as a Christian that truly wants to follow and honour Jesus and truly believes the bible is true.
It’s a fives star read and I would give it even more if that were a thing.

In No More Boring Bible Study, Faith Womack offers a guide that shows why taking Scripture seriously is easier—and more exciting—than you might think.

What Womack does best is genuinely get readers excited about Bible study. She frames and weaves her chapters with personal stories, and I found myself saying, “Me too!” while reading.

She clearly and efficiently explains foundational ideas and essential skills for studying the Bible in a short amount of time: why we can believe the Bible is true, the difference between exegesis and eisegesis, and how the overarching storyline of Scripture is the “secret code” to understanding the Bible.

Enjoying God’s Word

I especially enjoyed her discussion of what the Bible is not. It is not just a history textbook. It is not just a rulebook. It is not just a letter.

The book concludes by addressing problems in modern interpretation and application, which I found refreshing as someone who is not new to Bible study. Womack tackles the self-centered hermeneutic many of us struggle with and shows how right understanding—one that leads to worship—is the right application of the text.

No More Boring Bible Study is an excellent book that demonstrates that studying God’s Word is not only for spiritual education, but also for spiritual enjoyment.

I received a media copy of No More Boring Bible Study and this is my honest review. @diveindigdeep

4.5⭐️

This book truly lives up to its title. No More Boring Bible Study is a breath of fresh air for anyone who has ever wanted to love studying Scripture more but felt unsure where to start, stuck, overwhelmed, or even underwhelmed.

Faith Womack reminds you that the Bible isn’t meant to be a dry textbook or a checklist for “good Christians,” but a living, powerful conversation with God. She explains things in a way that feels approachable, practical, and genuine. Instead of guilt or pressure, this book offers encouragement, curiosity, and a renewed hunger for God’s Word.

I appreciated Faith’s guidance on Bible journaling. She offers simple, thoughtful resources that make journaling Scripture feel accessible and meaningful… especially for beginners or those who feel they are not creative. It’s a beautiful, hands-on way to engage more deeply with God’s Word. You don’t walk away thinking you’re doing Bible study “wrong.” You walk away inspired to open Scripture with confidence.

If you’re new to Bible study or journaling, have struggled to stay consistent, felt intimidated, or simply want a fresh spark in your time with God, this book is absolutely worth picking up. 💛📖

Just a reminder from me to you… God’s Word isn’t meant to be conquered or completed. It’s meant to be entered, like a holy place where we slow our steps, quiet our hearts, and meet Him, again and again, right where you are… not in perfection, but in presence. 💖

I really enjoyed this book and I'm very glad that I listened to it. I would say that overall it has inspired me to be more intentional about studying the context of scripture and deep diving into some more details that would help me understand how it can be applied to our lives as believers.

I would say that it was hard for me to follow a lot of it just because I'm not as nerdy as the author is! So, I would likely benefit from actually reading a physical copy of the book so I could slow down a little bit more, and I would also benefit from reading it again.

Even though I've been a believer for a number of years, I had never considered ordering a Bible dictionary and that was probably my favorite practical tip that I got from the book!

and just to conclude my review, I would say that this is probably most helpful to remind us that we can't just read scripture as if it's written for our modern Western culture and assume that we understand what the original author was saying.

I would definitely recommend it because it was very helpful, although I can't say that I enjoyed it as much as I thought I would simply because it was a little too high level for me (and I don't even think it was probably that high level, I'm just basic in this area)

This is my second reading - the first reading showed me that this book is best suited for me as a Bible Study.

I recommend this book as a tool to be used alongside Faith’s YouTube videos, your regular Bible studies, and book, chapter, verse, and character studies - not independent of one another. It is also helpful to have taken Faith’s online courses ‘Bible Study Bootcamp’ and ‘Theology Bootcamp’ prior to reading this book, as her book refers to advanced knowledge of the Bible and biblical vocabulary. Those precursor online courses, while not necessary, do give her book context, and you won’t spend as much time looking up definitions - allowing more time to devote to this next level Bible study.

Dare I say this book is brilliant and perhaps just the beginning of many more for this author? Please Faith, switch platforms from online courses to Bible studies and textbooks - I know you have more to share. I’m in!

So much goodness in a sweet small package. I love how Faith presents you with not only the basics of bible study, but also leaves you craving that deep dive into becoming intimate with bible study, thus becoming intimate with God. i really enjoy the fact that this book was written in a way to where it is a resource in itself, and not just a book i'll read once and put away.

Some parts did feel a little repetitive, but nothing terrible. There were also some statements or opinions that i dont 100% agree with, due to the fact that im catholic, but again this wasnt something that kept me from benefiting from the book.

overall I really did love the book and I'm happy thought I bought 2 copies and decided to gift one to my friend. This book does a great job at inspiring you to jump into bible study.

I'm so excited to start this journey and meet God in his word.

I would recommend this book to everyone who wants to know more about the Bible, how to study it, and enjoy doing so! I have been watching Faith's videos for a couple of years now and pre-ordered this book. I eagerly awaited its arrival and was not at all disappointed! Though I've been learning from her content and doing studies on my own for two years now, I still gleaned so much wisdom and helpful information from this book! It is easy to read and understand and so can be enjoyed by beginners but also older Christians too (I'm thinking of getting it for my grandmother who is new to bible studying). This book is absolutely jam packed and I adored reading it! I now have quite a few notes in my Bible that have "-faith Womack" at the end of them. Thanks so much for this awesome book Faith!

I loved this book! You can tell that she has a passion for people to know and understand God's Word faithfully. I loved that she reminds the reader that the Bible isn't written about us. The Bible for us, but it is about God. Every part of the Bible should bring us to worship. She did a great job at explaining an overview of the Bible as a whole as well as individual genres. I really enjoyed her Bible Nerd notes where she invites the reader to look closer at the Bible and try out some of the tips and tools she is teaching. I read through it this first time to see what it was all about. Now I want to go back through the book again more slowly and actually try out her tips for a deeper Bible Study.

This is a must-read of all Christians! Whether you are a new Christian and don't know where to begin with Bible study or if you've been a Christian for 50 years and just want to get back to the basics, this is the book for you!

I can't begin to tell you how much I loved this book! It is easy to read and not intimidating at all.

She has a Youtube channel called Bible Nerd Ministires which I have been following for years, which I highly recommend as well. There are some things she has said in her videos that she reiterates in the book and it was nice to get those reminders of things she has said.

I've been a Bible Nerd for a while now, but this book really encouraged me and I'm ready to be a student for life for the Bible.

3.5⭐️ If you want to feel what it’s like to love God’s Word, this is the book for you!
This is the perfect book for a beginner at Bible study or someone who’s looking to go deeper into the Word than what they get at church each Sunday. It gives a good foundation in parts of the Bible and translations which is important.
I wish Chapter 15 had come sooner I thought more of the book would be scholarly resources and tools to go deeper that she learned in Bible college. And knowing the full bookshelves behind her in her YouTube videos I know she’s well versed (pun intended)! A little more Bible college lecture, a little less anecdotal narration. And if you liked the book, you’ll love her YouTube videos!! Big fan, Faith 🫶

Faith's passion for God and the Bible always comes through on her YouTube channel. It's just as evident here.

I enjoy how she kept her authentic voice in the book. However, it read too repetitively for me. Sentences in one paragraph repeated themselves three times in different ways. Then were repeated again a couple paragraphs later, then a couple pages later. While this may help others, it often made it difficult for me to focus instead of skim. The same for when politicians and popstars were mentioned. That takes me out of books, and, too often, doesn't age well.

I appreciate she included applications and verse studies at the end of chapters. Great ways for beginner Bible Nerds to practice what she's writing.

This is a really great introduction to Bible study! Faith does a wonderful job of presenting the following for the beginner:

1) A sound hermeneutical framework for those who may not yet have one
2) A comprehensive but clear summary of all the genres in the Bible and the books that belong in each
3) Practical tools like commentaries, Bible dictionaries, and Strong’s concordance

She does the work to educate the reader on the dangers of prooftexting and eisegesis, both of which can hinder responsible Bible study.

I would recommend this for anyone looking for a serious but accessible starting point from which to study the Bible.

This book isn’t a Bible study system. It isn’t deep and scholarly. It is just an accessible series of hints and encouragements as you read your Bible. You’ll find small habits and adjustments in your thinking to adjust how you read your Bible and why you read your Bible. If you’re looking for a system— this isn’t it. If you’re looking for commentary or genre help— again, not it. If you’re looking to make your daily Bible reading more of a worshipful study and less of a daily chore— this is that!
