Thank you @rousseauxbrasseur @scott_h_james @thestoryofgodsgreatlove and @zonderkidz for the gifted copy

Books that make the season feel a little softer, a little sweeter, and a lot more meaningful

We’ve been slowly adding more intentional reads into our days, and this little stack has been such a beautiful mix of storytelling, creativity, and quiet moments together.

In this set:
• Jesus, Our True Friend shares simple, heartfelt stories that highlight love, kindness, and connection
• Hey-O! Coloring Book has been a huge hit over here — 90+ pages and the tear-out sheets make it perfect for creative afternoons
• The Glorious Image of God opens up really thoughtful conversations about identity and self-worth in a way kids can understand
• Deep Breath, Little Whisper is such a gentle, calming read that introduces simple ways for kids to pause, reflect, and find peace

These would make such thoughtful gifts this season or just a way to slow down and be more intentional with your little ones.

Wow. An absolute masterpiece for all ages. If possible, Sally’s storytelling is even more compelling than the Jesus Storybook Bible this time out, seamlessly weaving cultural exegesis into moving details that make these stories come alive.

And the emotion and quality of Silver’s illustrations in this volume reach new heights.

Highest possible recommendation!

Jesus, Our True Friend shares the story of Creation along with seven New Testament accounts that highlight how Jesus came to save us from sin and draw us nearer to God. The book beautifully conveys themes of love, hope, faith, joy, and salvation. These uplifting stories present Jesus’s love in a way that even very young children can grasp.

Inside, you’ll find the Creation story, the Wedding at Cana, the Good Samaritan, Mary and Martha, Casting the First Stone, Calming the Sea, the Prodigal Son, and the Miraculous Catch of Fish.

As a child, I cherished Bible storybooks like this, especially those with vivid illustrations that helped me imagine the scenes. Jago’s artwork brings these stories to life, lending them both historical depth and a warm, nostalgic feel. Though designed for children, the book’s stylish design and size makes it a lovely addition to any coffee table.

First Line: Before there was anything Love was there.

Want more content like your copy of The Jesus Storybook Bible Every Story Whispers His Name by Sally Lloyd-Jones The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name?

This is the book you need!

We gave this as a birthday gift to our five-year-old grand and it has been a bedtime companion ever since.

Sally Lloyd-Jones & Jago have taken seven stories about Jesus and his interactions with friends on earth and expanded them to show us how he is also our friend. The stories are a bit longer than in The Jesus Storybook Bible and the artwork is more detailed and on a larger scale. All great things for a new book from this team.

And Love became a human being.

And came down
To live with us.

And with our own eyes
We have seen him!
~ from Love Becomes a Human Being (a paraphrase of John 1:1-5, 14)

The seven stories are:
🌟The Party That Went Wrong (The wedding at Cana, from John 2)
🌟Our True Friend (The story of the Good Samaritan, from Luke 10)
🌟The Two Sisters Jesus Loved (The story of Mary and Martha, from Luke 10)
🌟Jesus and the Stone Throwers (The woman caught sinning, from John 8)
🌟Jesus and the Deadly Storm (The storm on the Sea of Galilee, from Matthew 14, Mark 6, and John 6)
🌟Our True Older Brother (The story of the Lost Son, from Luke 15)
🌟Breakfast on the Beach (The miraculous catch of fish, from Matthew 26, Mark 14, and John 21)

He left his Father and his throne and came to live with us.
And showed us what love was really like.

Here are seven of those Good News stories. They come from the time when Jesus was on earth.

They start with a party--and end with breakfast!

“Jesus, Our True Friend” is a collection of good news Bible stories that had me locked in at the illustrations alone!

Upon opening the book, I was surprised but thankful to see a special note for children and their grown-ups. The note sets the tone for the importance of these Good News stories in the book. I appreciate the clear and large-print table of contents that helps readers easily flip to specific stories throughout the storybook.

Something I found that is perfect for young readers is the paraphrase of John 1 before the first story is introduced. I find this so special because it presents the first and true representation of LOVE, which is Jesus, God’s own Son. Children and adults alike need to know what love looks like and how it acts. I thoroughly enjoy this part of the book.

Next, the unique yet fitting story titles are fun, and I’m thankful that with each story, the corresponding Bible passage is indicated. This makes it easy for children to look up in their “The Jesus Storybook Bible.”

Lastly, “Jesus, Our True Friend” is definitely written in prose. It feels like a warm story, and it's written in everyday language. I adore that the stories conclude by pointing back to the cross and how Jesus may have felt in these stories or what He was conveying in a parable, all the way back to the love of Jesus and the friend we have in Jesus. It’s the perfect way to show any child that Jesus is not only our Savior but the one who first loved us and is our true friend. God is personal, and he desires a relationship with us. This storybook is a great resource for introducing or reacquainting any child with Jesus. “Jesus, Our True Friend” is a lovely bookshelf storybook selection for children ages six and up, as well as their families, churches, and educators. It’s a wonderful gift for Christmas, Easter, baptism celebrations, baby showers, and any other gift-giving occasion.

I can’t recommend it enough!

I really enjoyed reading Jesus, Our True Friend: Stories to Fill Your Heart With Joy by Sally Lloyd-Jones. It felt like a warm and comforting book that shares simple but powerful messages about love, kindness, and faith. From the very beginning, I could feel the gentle tone that makes it perfect for children as well as families reading together.

What I liked most about this book is how it focuses on the life and teachings of Jesus in a very easy-to-understand way. The stories, like the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son, are told in a way that feels fresh and meaningful. Even though these are well-known stories, they still felt special and full of emotion while reading.

The writing style is soft, simple, and full of warmth. I didn’t feel like I was reading something complicated. Instead, it felt like someone was gently explaining important lessons about love and forgiveness. This made the book very enjoyable and easy to connect with.

The illustrations also added a lot to the experience. They are bright, expressive, and help bring each story to life. I felt that they made the book more engaging, especially for younger readers.

What touched me the most was the message that Jesus is a true friend who never leaves us. The book keeps reminding us of God’s love in a very comforting way. It leaves a feeling of peace and hope after reading.

Overall, I think this book is a beautiful addition for anyone who wants to share faith with children. It’s simple, meaningful, and full of heart. I would definitely recommend it for family reading time or as a thoughtful gift.

Jesus, Our True Friend: Stories to Fill Your Heart With Joy may be the most beautiful Jesus picture book I've ever seen. It's written and illustrated for children (for ages 6 and up), but honestly, a reader of ANY age will delight in Sally Lloyd-Jones' vibrant prose and Jago's amazing illustrations. Together, they've creating a rich and moving picture book which communicates deeply just how much Jesus loved his friends (and even those who weren't His friends); and just as powerfully, how much He loves us today.

In seven stories (plus a sweet letter to "children and their grown-ups") and an introduction taken from the Gospel of John chapter 1, child readers or families doing read-alouds together will get to hear about: the wedding miracle at Cana; Peter rushing to Jesus on the seashore after His resurrection and Peter's betrayal; the woman who sinned (known to older readers as the woman caught in adultery); and the dinner at Mary's and Martha's home, and more. Each and every story and well-told and illustrated for kid readers; yet in such a way that your heart will just delight in remembering Jesus' great love.

I adored every minute.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions shared here are my own honest ones.

Beautifully written to bring beloved Saviour, Jesus, to young hearts, Jesus, Our True Friend is a welcome addition to children's book collections, church libraries, and libraries that care to include Christian publications. It makes an exceptional gift that will bring delight and help establish the child's concept of Jesus.

In chapter book form with a "Table of Contents," the book lends itself well to read-aloud sessions. There is more "story" and details than the very youngest child will understand, grasp meaning of, or sit for. However, it lends itself well for those who have learned to read or for wonderful family read-aloud time.

The text (in my opinion) simply flows beautifully as the stories of Jesus are recounted. They seem to caress one's heart with their beauty. And adults will have glimpses into deeper truths that simple words can convey. For example in "The Two Sisters," Jesus tells Martha that "the thing you are carrying is too heavy for you." She was just doing meal preparation, etc. What was too heavy? No, Jesus was actually telling her that the "works" mentality was too heavy. She needed the time with Jesus just like Mary did.

So I highly endorse this beautiful book.

Jesus, Our True Friend is a delightful addition to any bookshelf. My kiddos grew up on the Jesus Storybook Bible, so I was excited when I saw this book. The stories are just what I would expect for tenderly conveying the beauty of Jesus in the gospels in words and language that are appropriate for young readers. Truthfully, I adore these stories as an adult. I love that I don’t tire of reading these stories, which is sometimes an issue with kids’ books. The illustrations are just perfect; again, exactly what I have come to love when reading a story by Sally Loyd-Jones. Whimsical, captivating, colorful, and entertaining. They capture the true essence of the story while offering multiple points of interest for little eyes “reading” through the pictures. I gladly recommend this book to those who are looking for captivating, sound, Bible stories for kids of all ages.

I thought that this was a wonderful book to read!

The story was well written and it was easy to read and understand and I loved the selection of stories that were told.

The illustrations in the book were great, they were nice, bright and colourful and they brought the story to life too. My daughter enjoyed the book and I loved the message that comes through with the book, everything about the book worked well for me - it was a really positive read.

My daughter attends a Catholic Primary School and most of the books that they have aren't that good so I can see this book being a welcome addition to lenders!

It is 5 stars from me for this one - very highly recommended!

I enjoyed this book and these key points:

Retells seven stories from the life of Jesus that show him as ‘our one true friend’.

Adds explanations to certain stories that helps children understand what may be unfamiliar details.

Many of the stories focus on how ‘the super holy religious people’ need the gospel as well as those who maybe have more obviously sinned. Shows Jesus’ grace to both such people.

Draws each story back to the truth and our need of the gospel.

Bold and striking illustrations

"Jesus, Our True Friend: Stories to Fill Your Heart With Joy" paraphrases seven Bible stories and thoughtfully references the exact scriptures for each. It presents a clear, full arc of the gospel, making the collection cohesive and purposeful. A few sentences felt a bit long or complex for younger children, so I’d use this as a read‑aloud at earlier ages rather than an independent read.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
