Two years after the explosive Girl in the Box Series ends, Sienna Nealon is called to London, England, where she is drawn into a murder investigation involving an old friend. Paired up with a young, handsome Detective Inspector, she finds herself in a race against time to unravel the mystery surrounding the murder as victim after victim falls to the careful, clever killer. Soon, Sienna is in a race against time to find the culprit before he sets loose a plan that will show Sienna the limits of her abilities in the most brutal way imaginable.
Robert J. Crane was born and raised on Florida's Space Coast before moving to the upper midwest in search of cooler climates and more palatable beer. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in English Creative Writing. He worked for a year as a substitute teacher and worked in the financial services field for seven years while writing in his spare time.
continuation from girl in the box series. Its ok. Again its available on Kindle unlimited so I will read it. Would I pay for this series. No I would not.
Two years have passed since the events in Power took place. The team has scattered to various different corners of the earth. I say team and that is exactly how I perceived them in the books.
Unfortunately neither Sienna nor the others seem to think of themselves as such. More is the pity, because the thing they all have in common, well nearly all of them, is their particular brand of being different. They should be standing together and supporting each other, especially now certain Meta are being tortured and murdered again.
Sienna seems a little tired of being the go to person for every non-Meta authority when it comes to Meta crimes, murders and problems. Why? Because those same authorities and governments have created a very intense layer of laws, rules and regulations against the Meta community. Now those laws are becoming even more restrictive, because there is a new nasty in town.
Interesting that the Meta have gone from being a or the controlling factor in the world, to persona non grata and a minority group. It makes for a whole different ball game, despite their strength and multitude of abilities.
The new villain in town is a person with an axe to grind, skin to flay (literally) and with a long list of potential victims he intends to dispose of. Yes, that does include Sienna. Does it ever not include her?
Meanwhile Sienna is trying to find out exactly who she is dealing with in order to halt their reign of murder and mayhem. She has been partnered with a human, and I think the two of them have a few sparks going off between them. Not sure what Webster was thinking when he decided to put the main target of a psycho torture gang up in his mother’s house. Haven’t thought that through completely mate, have ya?
I think Crane created that particular scenario so Sienna would be confronted with her internal need for some kind of maternal comfort, which in turn makes her think about the loss of her mother and how much Sienna misunderstood her intentions.
So, after the intense ending and closure to the The Girl in the Box series Crane has made a fierce start with this new series featuring Sienna, but this time she is well and truly Out of the Box. I received a copy of this book courtesy of the author.
At the end of Power (Girl In the Box #10), I was wondering how Robert would top that. Then I read the hint at the end of that book of what was to come. And it was good. Very good.
This book, whilst still retaining the trademark humour and wise-assery we have come to expect from Sienna, is different to GITB. It is more. It is somewhat grown up and responsible. It is meeting the unknown and wondering if Sienna is going to walk away this time. And, let me tell you, I was very worried that she wouldn't!
This is another rollercoaster from Robert. An explosive and fast paced start to the new series. And the ending? Well, lets just say you might find that you have a bit of grit in your eye. You know, if you needed an excuse....
It's a good book if you're still a kid at heart. The writing style was mildly childish and a little too 'I'm a bad ass and I'm gonna say I'm a bad ass even though I don't need to declare it.' If I didn't know better I would say it was written by an inexperienced author who was trying to rush the story. As far as plot line goes, it's not the first but certainly takes a new twist on non-human characters. As I have never read the Girl in the Box series I have no way of knowing if this story is similar in writing style to its predecessor, but after reading this story I have no intention of continuing the series or going back to the original series. Sienna Nealon is a one dimensional character construed from the mind of a writer who likes to put as little animation into a character as possible. When using a character from a different series a writer must put a new exposition into the new series else a reader who is jumping in gets confused. The entire first quarter of the story, the part where the main exposition should lie, is filled with nothing but flaunting the "limitless" abilities of the character who seems to be able to do whatever she wants. This makes it very difficult to relate to Sienna because she is so limitless. Most readers connect with a character by their flaws or their hobbies. Since very few people in this world are meta human detectives who can turn into dragons, this leaves very few areas of connection to be made. Perhaps her only limited ability is her own arrogant attitude which is, least to say, painted all over the novel. As far as character development, Robert Crane has failed in evolving the most important character in his story-the protagonist. Imaginative and stultifying, it would be best to remain in the teen section rather than the adult section I found it in at my local library. For its lack of compelling use of writing style, failure to draw in this reader, and failed character development I must rate this story 2 stars.
I expected probably too much out of this book because it's the aftermath of Girl In the Box series, and that series was all five stars! I hope this one gets better with twenty-four more books to read. Sienna is still powerful. However, her supporting cast is not in this book at least, so I can only hope they reappear in future books because it was also the witty sarcasm that made the first series so enjoyable. I am into book two hoping for a story at least close to previous ten books.
RJC (yeah, the author is so cool, he deserves the moniker) is a masterful storyteller. He managed to write plot twists like a pretzel on steroids, and witty dialogues beyond mere comic relief, that brings the reader into a world in which you have to pinch yourself to remember is fiction. I am glad I started late, and can now "binge read" the forty plus novels at my disposal. I am only one fourth of the way through. So I am ecstatic I have this grand escape from the present global pandemic otherwise keeping me locked in my own metal box of sorts.
It's been two years since the takedown of Sovereign. Sienna Nealon is now the head of a clandestine agency within the U.S. government. Called upon when uncontrolled meta activity is suspected, Sienna finds herself in London as a serial killer stalks former Omega operatives. Having gone a bit 'side's in her cushy government job, Sienna will have to call upon all her former training and a few of her "residents" in attempt to overcome her prey.
That was a whirlwind and a trip of reading. Nice to find out what happened with a couple characters. Some new characters I expect to read of in books to come maybe in this series. The ending though? What? Just what? I have questions now and on to the next book in this series to maybe get those questions answered. Great reading. I recommend it, but if you haven’t read the books before this one, you might want to go back and read them.
A good fantasy to read. The antagonist Sienna is a metahuman who poses super human capabilities like she can fly, heal her wounds instantly, can turn herself into flames and the protagonist is also meta who can see probabilities cum future of his victims to those he is torturing to a gruesome death for a revenge. The twist in the book was well kept and I pretty much liked the ending of the book.
A great follow up book, I didn't even know the series continued so I was pleasantly surprised to find a whole new series of books! I enjoyed the book, the story was well written and easy to read. The new characters were interesting and the old ones were just like I remembered. I can't wait to read all the rest of the books in this series, I better get busy!
Sienna goes to London to help stop a guy systematically going through old Omega members, torturing them in what appears to be a revenge plot. I had to skip past the torture scenes. The rest was a pretty good read. I want to know what happened to Scott. The whole story, and I hope I don't have to wait multiple books to find out.
After reading the entire Girl In the Box. I been blown away in how great the story line was been. But I do have to say. I like this story but far less than the first 10. It took forever to get to level of writing I don't in your previous book. But not a bad beginning. I look for to your next book. I only hope is better the book 11 its a let down
I MIGHT try and read another at another time but this book is such a turn off that I am calling it quits here. The book begins with a main character being shackled upside down and being tortured . The vicious and debased way he is being treated is disgusting, file and not my idea of entertainment or premise of a great read. Don't bother with this book...
A new phase in Sienna's but still plenty of excitement, action and mystery. Looking forward to how she continues to say the world from villains but doesn't let herself used by the government.
This was great,I'm glad Siena finally realized their is more to life than work. She needs to love a little.this Book was Excellent I Highly recommend this author's work.
I was wondering where the series would go after the war and the epic battle with sovereign. I wasn't disappointed with the next chapter at all. The idea that Sienna would become a little to relaxed is very believable and understandable after the previous events.
As far as the storyline goes, this one is actually pretty interesting. However, it gets docked at least a star from me because of the meanness about characters' weight and body shapes. The series has flirted with that before, but goes all in with a stream of insults in Limitless.
Another great story and Sienna has put herself through the ringer again. How many times can a hero bleed all over the place and still live to tell the tale of what happened? Well, onward to the next book.
Another book in the series, it was a good read. I liked the fact it was a smaller focused storyline. The main character felt the most human and relatable she has through the series. The book set up other storylines which I assume will be followed up on in the next book(s).
To me, unlike the other books, I had a hard time getting interested. But then about a third of the way in it got better and better. Now can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
She is such a strong smart person and not weak minded like most hero's tend to be in books. Some authors try to humanize them so much that they are borderline ignorant to natural instincts.
This was a very intense story and kinda hurt my heart a little bit. I can’t believe Janus is not being completely honest with her again. What the heck?! She freaking sacrificed everything to save those ungrateful asses repeatedly and again they don’t give a crap…ugh
I've read other novels by R.J. Crane but this is my first of the Sienna novels. This was an easy enjoyable read. Action packed of the "super hero" variety. Chases, explosions, near death experiences all to catch the bad guy.
It's my go to series when I am in-between books. I know there will be a mystery, then our girl will get her ass kicked. Once she realizes she got her ass handed to her, she will hulk smash her way through the bad guys. I love it.
