Book 3 of the Omaera Playfair Chronicles A RH/Why Choose paranormal romance
A queen rises. A realm fractures. War is coming.
Just when I thought becoming the demon queen was the craziest thing that would ever happen to me…
My bear shifter mate becomes king of the shifters.
And then a dragon challenges him for the crown.
Which is a problem, because dragons don’t do politics. They hoard treasure, avoid people, and stay far away from realm drama.
So when the most powerful dragon shifter alive demands a challenge, it’s obvious something bigger is happening.
Unfortunately, figuring out what that “something” is might destroy the realm.
What starts as a single challenge quickly spirals into chaos between shifters, mages, vampires, and demons.
Alliances fracture. Blood is spilled.
And in the middle of it all, one of my mates disappears.
But the real nightmare is only just beginning.
Because someone has opened a portal to Hell…
…and the monsters stepping through once tried to start a war that nearly wiped out every race in existence.
Looks like saving the realm just became my newest responsibility.
Because if I don’t… there won’t be a realm left to rule.

Bite by Natalia Sloan is a gripping and chaotic, that fully leans into the scale and darkness of the Omaera Playfair Chronicles. The stakes feel bigger than ever as the world fractures under the pressure of power struggles, ancient threats, and shifting alliances, and Omaera is right at the center of it all trying to hold everything together.
The story wastes no time throwing you into conflict with the dragon challenge, adding an intense and unpredictable layer. It brings a sense that nothing is stable, and no one is safe, which carries throughout the entire book. The political tension between shifters, vampires, mages, and demons is messy in the best way, constantly shifting and keeping you on edge.
Omaera continues to shine as a strong but evolving heroine. She is powerful, but not untouchable, and the weight of leadership and responsibility is very real for her here. Watching her navigate loss, fear, and impossible decisions adds emotional depth to all the action.
The why choose dynamic remains a strong part of the story, with each mate bringing something different emotionally and strategically. The bonds feel established but are still tested in meaningful ways, especially with the added tension of one mate going missing, which raises the emotional stakes even higher.
The darker elements are more pronounced in this book, especially with the introduction of the portal to Hell and the looming threat behind it. It adds a sense of dread that builds steadily, making it clear that the danger is far from over.
The cliffhanger ending hits hard and leaves everything hanging in a way that feels both frustrating and completely fitting for the tone of the series. It sets up the next phase of the story with even higher stakes and unanswered questions.
This is a strong, fast paced, and emotionally charged continuation that delivers on action, tension, and character growth while leaving you desperate to see how it all resolves.
Holy moly! There was so much going on in this book.
Omaera & her mates are trying to recover after the incident that left her father-in-law missing a limb. But then they are immediately thrown into a challenge against Zandren.
Now they have to go find this shifter that has set this challenge to try & talk him out of it.
But they never expected more trouble when they finally find him. So now they are on another mission to locate his sister who was kidnapped in order to stop this challenge.
But then the challenge comes & chaos follows at the hands of Lerris. And in that chaos one of her mates is taken & held at the hands of Howar.
They keep trying to find him whilst also dealing with all of the other chaos that is happening around them. Just to add that the need for Drak & Omaera to bond is becoming so much stronger now.
There is so much that happens in the way to finding her taken mate & so much more chaos. But that ending, that cliffhanger was so not fair.
But this book was well written & I found myself anxious to see wha happens to the characters.
