Faith is hard. Motherhood is messy. Grace feels far away. If you’ve ever spilled coffee on your Bible, cried in Target, or missed quiet time again… you are so not alone.
Holy Shenanigans is a 30-day devotional that feels more like coffee with your best friend than a checklist for perfection.
If you’ve ever tried to find Jesus in the middle of your chaos—between crying kids, overwhelming grief, awkward social moments, and spilled coffee—then welcome. You’re in the right place.
In Holy Grace, Grief & Laughing Anyway, Emily Hampton takes you on a wildly relatable journey through faith, fumbles, and the moments that make you laugh until you cry (or just cry, period). Through hilarious personal stories, unexpected life lessons, and biblical truth that actually applies to your everyday mess, you’ll
✅ The power of stubborn joy—even when life is falling apart ✅ Why God’s grace covers everything (yes, even that awkward moment) ✅ How to find laughter, peace, and purpose in the middle of the chaos
From holy moments to hilarious ones (and a few that are questionably both), this devotional is an invitation to embrace grace, grief, and the ridiculous beauty of real life. Whether you’re navigating heartbreak, handling toddler tantrums, or just trying to make it through Monday, Holy Shenanigans will remind you that Jesus is in it all—laughing with you, crying with you, and never, ever leaving you.
📖 Perfect for fans of Jen Hatmaker, Annie F. Downs, and anyone who has ever laughed at the wrong time in church.
So grab a coffee (or two), embrace the chaos, and get ready for grace, grief, and a whole lot of holy shenanigans.

🩷 "When I picked up a copy of Holy Shenanigans by Emily Hampton I had no idea how much it would bless me. Right from the start, this book is loaded with inspiring humor and uplifting words of faith.
I didn’t read Holy Shenanigans in neat, quiet morning stretches with a candle burning. I read it in fragments. In the carpool line. Five minutes before bed. Once while reheating coffee for the third time.
And honestly, that felt exactly right.
What struck me first was the tone. Emily Hampton writes like someone who has stopped trying to impress you. The entries are conversational without feeling careless. The humor lands because it’s specific. Not vague “mom life is crazy” commentary, but the kind of self-aware storytelling that makes you wince and laugh at the same time. There were a few moments where I felt slightly overloaded by the punchlines, as if every paragraph wanted to wink at me. But when she lets a scene breathe, that’s where the devotional really shines.
The theme that settled into me was stubborn joy. Not bubbly positivity. Not denial. Stubbornness. The kind that keeps showing up to God even when you’re tired, grieving, irritated, or spiritually dry. I appreciated that she doesn’t pretend grace erases grief. They sit side by side in these pages. Some days lean funny. Some days lean heavy. That emotional whiplash felt true to real life.
What surprised me most was how gently confronting it became. I expected light encouragement. Instead, I found myself convicted in small ways. Not about performance or productivity, but about where I look for relief. Do I scroll? Do I complain? Or do I actually turn toward Jesus, even if it’s messy and distracted? The devotional doesn’t shame distraction. It just keeps inviting you back.
Structurally, the 30-day format works well for exhausted readers. Each entry feels contained. You can step in and step out without losing the thread. Still, a few devotionals felt similar in rhythm. A touch more variation in structure or depth might have added surprise halfway through.
What lingers after finishing isn’t a dramatic spiritual breakthrough. It’s permission. Permission to laugh at yourself. Permission to grieve honestly. Permission to approach God without cleaning yourself up first.
I closed the final day feeling less alone in my chaos. Not fixed. Just accompanied. And sometimes that’s the kind of grace we actually need.
Holy Shenanigans by Emily Hampton was such an enjoyable devotional. It’s a 30-day format with short, light, daily readings that are easy to fit into a busy schedule. I especially appreciated the humor woven throughout, it made the book feel warm, relatable, and refreshing rather than heavy. One of my favorite features is the layout. Each devotion is followed by a full page for journaling, which is incredibly convenient. If you’re like me and need space to process and write out your thoughts, this setup works beautifully, I like that I will be able to revisit this book in the future and read my journal entries instead of having to search for my notes..... somewhere in a spiral notebook or on my computer. That said, I do think this devotional pairs best with a deeper daily Bible reading plan. It’s more lighthearted and reflective than theologically deep. While I truly enjoyed the tone, I found myself wishing it went just a little deeper and challenged the reader more in terms of spiritual growth rather than mainly self-reflection. I also wish it were longer than 30 days, it felt like it flew by! I would give 4.5 star but Goodreads doesn't allow for that. Overall, this is a wonderful devotional. even though I'm in my mid to running into late 48th, this is not limited to any age group this is appropriate for teenage girls and mothers, I even read one of the days to my husband and son and they really enjoyed it so this also is not limited to women, it's a good devotion for men to kind of understand how women think. I already have one of her other devotion books in my Amazon cart. A light, uplifting read that leaves you smiling and wanting just a little more depth.
This book is everything I needed and more. My only complaint is it was only 30 days. Would absolutely love a much longer one. The stories, the scriptures, even the bonus challenges had me wanting to dive deeper into a relationship with God. Highly recommend this book.
I can’t give this enough praise. You get to see all of Emily’s experiences but then see how she connects back to God in each and every scenario. This is one of those books you will just keep coming back to when you need to get your perspective shifted. She has a real easy and warm, inviting style.
I have never laughed out loud so much when I read a book & this incredible book from Emily is a vibrant book that fills your heart with so much faith & joy. Highly recommend!
