5 STARS for my favorite book and for Perry, Dex <333

I'M GOING TO CRY RIGHT NOW

description

OMG Can you believe it????
It's over! I can't believe that the best series I have ever read has come to an end. I'm so sad! I will miss these characters and this story so much. Each book was so unique!! There is so many things that I loved about this series! This series is one of that you never want to end....It was an amazing journey! Like all the previous ones, this book was funny, sexy and really scary!!

The books starts with Dex missing. So Perry with Ada's and Maximous's help goes to New York to find Dex....
But what she will meet there??
Be prepared....And I advise... it's better to read this book during the day..(I made the mistake of reading it at night...and believe me it was scary!!!)

description

Have you ever had a huge crush with a fictional character that you'd always be thinking of him??? This is exactly what happened to me with Dex...This man...OMG He is smartass, sexy, sometimes a little bit of an asshole( not in the last books) but still I'm so in love with him! I loved his sarcastic comments and I will miss them...all of them!! And Perry..she is the best heroine ever!!! She is funny, strong and spunky!!!
Their combination was amazing as a couple and their hotness was off the charts!! There is so much passion between them!

description

Karina Halle is so talented!!! Please if you haven't read this series yet give it a try! I'm sure you will fall in love with Perry and Dex!!
I can't wait for Ada's book...and hopefully we can see Perry and Dex again <33
Thank you so much Karina for another amazing book!!! This was the series that made me love you as an author and believe in you and your talent to write amazing books that captivate readers!!!

It all started in a House of Light turned Dark...
Darkhouse
"How come you aren’t afraid?" "Because I find life to be scarier than death."

Then came a fight for trust, truth and Fire...
Red Fox
“The truth is in the fire.”
"I was hoping you’d come out and get me." I put my hands on my hips and cocked my head, pondering that revelation. "Well," I said, feeling truthful. "I’m always going to come and get you."

In a tiny fog-shrouded island a relationship was forged and tested...
Dead Sky Morning
“I really hate you sometimes,” I blurted out. He shrugged. “I don’t blame you. I hate myself too sometimes. Often.

And then came the ghosts, we haunt ourselves with.
Lying Season
Everyone has ghosts that follow them throughout their lives. Ghosts of the past they wish they’d left behind, ghosts of love they once turned down, ghosts of regret and ghosts of loss. Ghosts of guilt.

After that, it's hell. And a race for sanity, love and life.
On Demon Wings
“You are in the Thin Veil, the Black Sunshine.”

Time for healing wounds and baring souls.
Into the Hollow
“Within your light, I lose the madness.”

Time for kicking serious ass and falling deeper in love.
Come Alive
"You’re mine. And you’re mine alone. From now until the end of time."

Approaching the end.
Ashes to Ashes
"It’s us against the world.”

And now my fellow Dex, Perry and TEAM EIT fangirls and my favourite Perry fanboy, David, it's the heartbreaking, breathtaking, emotional and terrifying finale.

It's
DUST to DUST

and nothing will be the same...

"I love you," I whimpered. "Always. Beyond Death"

There are 5 Stars ratings and then there are 5 STARS ratings

Even if it was possible to give more stars, nothing would be sufficient to express the sheer brilliance and awesomeness of this book and this series as whole.

Having just finished this book, I am asking you to excuse me any misspelled words or grammatical errors. My hands are shaking and my eyes are blurry with tears. As I turned the last page, I left a part of my heart with Dex and Perry and I couldn't be more happy and sad about it.

description

In this last book emotions are magnified. Dex and Perry are racing to save themselves and everyone they love from the most terrible threat of all. Karina, doesn't pull any punches. Horror, evil all out there for us to experience. And then she takes our heart out of our chests and kicks it. ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY magnificent.

I don't think I have anything else to say. I am keeping the TEAM DEX part of my profile name. Noone will ever top him in my heart. The handsome bastard just crawled in there and he is having a smoke while crooning "Say you're in love with this guy...
HELL! Damn right I am.

It's the end of an era. Farewell, Dex and Perry.
I will be reading the Ada series, praying for a glimpse of you.

As I turned the last page my heart broke knowing this was the end of the Dex & Perry era. I began wallowing in self pity when this quote popped into my head. "Don't cry because it's over. SMILE because it happened!" -Dr. Seuss

DUST TO DUST is an epic final book to an overall magnificent series. I love the element of surprise this series offers. The never knowing what was going to scare me next, as I flipped the pages, had me on the edge of my seat. These thoughts kept running through my head:
♦ Don't look in any mirrors! Or anything that would show my reflection. *shivers*
♦ Spiders are not our friends but instead they are evil.
♦ Sleeping with all the lights was necessary while reading this book.

This series finale had little pieces of each of the previous books woven through out it. Since this is my review series finale I decided to use a little something from each of my previous reviews.

DARK HOUSE
"KC had mentioned to me about wanting to read this series a couple months ago but I was too chicken to take the leap of faith. But after a bad run on romance books lately I knew I had to cleanse my palate. After reading the first couple of pages and seeing my hometown mentioned and my alma mater I knew it was going to be okay!!! Plus there is a lot of humor in this book."
♦I was so proud of myself for reading this scary book.

RED FOX
"♥I love Dex and Perry!♥
Random side note:
In college I enjoyed reading the Navajo Mysteries series. I knew when I started this one and it had a similar feel that I was going to enjoy Red Fox."
♦At this point I was hooked and knew I would be reading this whole series.

DEAD SKY MORNING
"To add to the ambiance of this book I read it late at night in bed with my husband sleeping next to me. His hand was rested on my leg and during an intense scene his hand involuntarily squeezed my leg. Let me just say it took everything I had to not scream and jump out of bed."
♦ Real life stuff happening while reading this series sure made me a jumpy person.

LYING SEASON
"Perry sums up my feelings:
"I quit!"
♦ Oh, that cliffhanger did me in!! I was so frustrated. *lol*

ON DEMON WINGS
"My heart was breaking for Perry as I read this book. She has lost her best friend and partner."
♦ I was crushed and wondering how Perry was going to rebound from this mess.

INTO THE HOLLOW
"*I had my own 2.0 moment tonight at Best Buy.*
We were shopping and my husband and I split up. When I was done I had gone to look for him and one of the sales guys asked me if he could help me?
I said, “No, I’m just looking for my husband.”
He smirked and said, “We don’t sell those here.”
I laughed.
Then he continued, “But I could get you an upgrade on that husband. One with better features.”
I replied, “a 2.0 version?”
He smiled and I kept walking.

When I found my husband I had a huge smirk on my face. He asked me what I had been up to and I told him about the flirty sales guy.
My husband replied,“Do I need to go pay him a visit?” LOL
My response, “If I decide to trade you in I know I can find a better version at Best Buy…2.0 version.”
♦ Dex has become Dex 2.0 and his transformation just happened to hit at the same time as this real life moment happened.

COME ALIVE
"If you love Dex’s pov then you are in for a treat because this whole book you get to live in Dex’s head."
♦ Self explanatory

ASHES TO ASHES
"When I started ASHES TO ASHES I had no clue it would take place right by where I was taking my teen son to work for the summer. Sunday we drove to a town right outside of Tillamook. As we were driving home I began reading this book and got a little nervous thinking of him being gone all summer and being right where Karina Halle made this story come alive. Being a true teen boy he has yet to call me. Hopefully no creepy kids show up at the camp he's working at."
♦ YES! I love that series has a heroine that lives in Oregon. Another book I get to add to my Oregon shelf.

Dex & Perry,
I'm going to steal Dex's words because he epitomizes how I feel about you two.
"I love you! Always have, always will. Always."
Thank you, Karina Halle, for having me step out my reading comfort zone and discover this genre. I talk about these characters to others (even my mom) like they are close personal friends. I loved this series and all the emotions I felt as I devoured each and every one of these books. Best wishes to you & your new husband AND Mr & Mrs Foray.

I can't believe it's over. Karina delivered a terrifying, action packed conclusion to a phenomenal series. Dex and Perry are two of my all time favorite characters.

description

Dust to Dust picks up right where Ashes to Ashes left off. Dex has disappeared with his brother, so Perry and Ada take off to New York to find him. But nothing is ever simple with these two...

This was not how I imagined our engagement would start off. Then again, we were Dex and Perry, and our relationship seemed to thrive on the universe being out of order. Either that or our relationship actually caused the world to turn upside down. It was hard to say.

Someone will not be leaving New York alive...will Dex and Perry survive? This book scared the shit out of me and had me in tears. Saying goodbye is hard, but it was one hell of a journey. I highly recommend this series.

"I love you," I whimpered. "Always. Beyond death."

What can I say? Dust to Dust is definitely one big finale to this phenomenal series. The big finale that all fans of Experiment In Terror series have been waiting for and simultaneously have been dreading to read since they knew they would have to say goodbye to our beloved Dex and Perry.

Do you think that nothing can surprise you? You are dead wrong. Karina Halle has one wicked mind of a genius and you have to trust me when I say that you will find yourself breathless and speechless quite often while reading this novel.

Do you think that nothing can scare you? Think twice. Because you have obviously never read anything like this book. Our main duo has never been in such a big trouble as in this book and my heart was constantly racing with all the anxiety. So prepare yourself for a great dose of creepiness and heart-stopping situations.

Do you never/rarely cry when it comes to fictional characters? The fact that you got so far in the series as book #9 means that you care. And if you care about Dex and Perry, this novel won’t leave you indifferent when it comes to emotions and touching moments.

"We were Dex and Perry and our relationship seemd to thrive on the universe being out of order."

And my favourite part of this book? I loved that Karina Halle still kept Dex’s sarcasm no matter what messed up situations protagonists found themselves in. His unmistakable humour is one of reasons that make Dex so special in my eyes and I was glad it was still present in this instalment.

Experiment In Terror is my all time favourite series taking place in our contemporary word. It has been unforgettable journey and an incredible experience to get to know Dex and Perry. And now I am truly sad to say goodbye. Karina Halle did fantastic job with creating this series and if you haven’t read it yet, you are most definitely missing out!

“I love you! Always have, always will. Always.”

 photo dusttodust.png

I still remember quite clearly the day I first picked up Darkhouse while I was serving jury duty. I had seen some rave reviews from one of my favorite Goodreads reviewers (Kristin (KC), for which I thank you), and I didn’t know what to expect. I literally read the first two books while sitting in that room, waiting to be selected or sent home, and from then on, I was hooked.

Ms. Halle created an original universe that cannot be replicated, and sent me on a journey that will stay with me the rest of my life, as will the characters of Perry and Dex. These books have made me feel so many different emotions this last year of reading them: terror, angst, happiness, sadness, anticipation, and comfort.

In the final installment, Dust to Dust , an unexpected threat attacks the life that Dex and Perry have begun together. I can't say any more than that, you just have to read it.

“This was not how I imagined our engagement would start off.”

Once again, Karina Halle did her best to give me nightmares that only years of counseling will eradicate. Mirrors are going to be a little bit difficult for me to be around for a while after this book. Plus, that House of Hell? Way to combine scary shit with the added fear of not being able to escape! (And I loved every second of it!)

"When you're my wife, I know I'll be a good husband so as long as I never let you forget that, that you, only you, just as you are, are my reason for being."

Dust to Dust also brought to the table that wonderful sense of humor that I enjoy so much. The amount of times I laughed equaled the amount of times tears came to my eyes reading this.

“And how do you know about blood play?”
“I read kinkier books than you do.”

This book was a perfect end to a perfect series. It’s hard to believe that this series is 9 books! I could easily and happily read another 9 about Perry and Dex.

"I wanted joy, forever. I wanted her forever. I wanted all the wonderful things that life was giving me and I wanted them over and over and over again."

Some of my favorite moments from the series:
Red Fox: “Less dog breath.”
Dead Sky Morning: That tent scene. YOU KNOW what I’m talking about!
Lying Season: Quite honestly, the ending. Masterfully written, I am constantly rereading it.
On Demon Wings: The entire damn book. That one was my favorite.
Into the Hollow: Twatwaffle.
Ashes to Ashes: Duckspunk.

If you haven't read these books, pick them up now. Many people have told me that they are hesitant because it's paranormal romance. Ignore that. All you need to know is that these books are awesome, no matter what genre slot people put them in. Plus, the first book Darkhouse is FREE on amazon. So what are you waiting for?

Watching Dex and Perry grow, from strangers meeting in a lighthouse, to a couple so in love they would do anything for each other has been such an incredible voyage, and one I would happily take again and again and again. So this leaves the question, what am I going to do without any new Derry in my life?

(And I so totally ugly cried when I finished this book. It’s actually pretty embarrassing).

Last of all, thank you Ms. Halle for these books. Just, thank you.

“Are you ready to become Mrs. Dex Foray?”
“I always have been.”

Title: Dust To Dust
Series: EIT #9
Author: Karina Halle
Release Date: August 11, 2014
Rating: 4.5 stars
Cliffhanger:. No
HEA:

“She was in my arms and she was safe and I was safe and the rest of the world could go to hell for all I cared.”

Experiment in Terror. Over. And done with. Be still my heart.

I’m still shaken to the point of exhaustion. It’s seems I waited so long to finish reading this beautiful, out of this world scary journey, but now, while I’m writing this review, I feel so sad and empty inside. Sad because EIT is over. Empty, because I feel like I lost a friend.

It’s bitter sweet, really. I’m so glad I adored this series so much and had the opportunity to fall in love with Perry and Dex. Yet, now it’s kind of hard to let them go. After reading nine books and following novellas you can’t not to care about this crazy, adorable duo. So yes, I’m writing about Dust to Dust while my heart is breaking and while relieving every awesome tiny detail about this series.

Just like previous eight books, Dust to Dust is absolutely incredible roller coaster of fear, love, devotion, romance, horror, sex, humor and sarcasm. It’s everything I loved and more. And it’s the perfect ending of this out of the charts paranormal series, everyone has to read at least once.

Dust To Dust is simply a cherry on the top of supersized chocolate cake, we all want to eat and still have. And while I am sad to say goodbye, I’m also smiling; it’s great to know I had an opportunity to spend time with Dex and Perry and learn all their secrets.

“I just need to look at you.”
“Then keep looking, kiddo,” he said. My heart may have melted like a pat of butter on hot bread. “Because I’m looking at you. I don’t think I could ever stop.”

5 “What the heck will I do with my life now??” Stars.

Okay, this was it. The end of this series and I’m like:

description
In this last and amazing installment we finally have the closure we’ve waiting for.
With the end of the “Experience In Terror” series, Perry and Dex have now an even scarier thing to get trough: their own pasts and how they are entwined.
When they think that the worst is finally over, they are bound to find out that darkness is closer that what they expect. And the worst? That darkness is decided to have them both… at all costs.

description

Rating: 5 Stars.
Storyline: Okay, this wasn’t the scariest book of the series, not even close. But it was dark, twisted and amazing. I was a great ending to these amazing books but I must say that I felt like it left a lot of unanswered questions. It didn’t felt like final because many of the questions that were raised in the previous installments were kind of ignored. Other than that, I loved it, it had a nice great ending and I loved how things turned out to be after everything they went through.
Writing Style: First person. Dual POV. Emotional, addictive and wonderfully written.
Character Development: From the first book I always said that Perry was one the most awesome heroines ever written. I’m glad I was able to keep the same opinion until the last book. I loved her! She was amazing and fierce and loyal in this book. Dex… well, I hated him for several times in the previous books, but he did an amazing job of growing up through the story and I really, really loved him. Again he was awesome. And a special cheers in this book for the “Little Fifteen” that was amazing. I can’t wait to read her books!
Steam: Hot.

5+ Stars!

Dust to Dust was the perfect ending to one of my all-time favorite series. Maybe this wasn't my favorite book in the entire series but Dex and Perry's story couldn't have ended any better. I'll miss these characters and EIT, that's for sure, but luckily there's still Ada and Maximus' stories to look out for. ;-)

I LOVED this book. As soon as I hit the last page it was a bittersweet moment for me. I didn't know whether to cry or smile really big. In the end, I did both at the same time, which was not a very good look on me. It was an excellent end to an amazing series. Totally did not disappoint.

What can I say about this book?? I don't want to spoil anything about it because it was SO freaking good. And, I think it is best that you just read it yourself.

The story in this one picks up exactly where the last book left off. Perry has seen Dex's brother Michael and wakes up at a park, after having passed out. Dex is missing, and now she has to find him without any real hint at where he may be, except she knows she needs to go to New York. Ada and Maximus go with her to help her out. But, soon things start to get really intense, and it seems all of them are battling against something stronger and purely evil than ever before. It seems like not all of them may be leaving New York alive.

Perry is still one of my favourite heroines, one I could really identify with, many times during this series. I loved her and her attitude. She was tough and strong when she needed to be. That was still very present in this book, too. I can't believe how much she has grown since book one. I also really love my sexy Dexy!! *sigh* He is one of my top book boyfriends for being so real. I love that about him, as well as his raunchy and sarcastic sense of humour. Yes, he could be an asshole sometimes, not in this book, but in the past. Yet, I still love the guy because he could also be so freaking sweet. Together, they were just smoking hot and perfect. I am really going to miss Dex and Perry so much.

I loved the story line in this one, holy smokes was it terrifying!! It was also quite fast paced and intense. It had me totally captivated that I did not want to put it down. That also had to do with the writing which was really great. So much happens!! My emotions were everywhere. I was so freaking scared, happy, laughed, swooned, and burst into sobbing tears. I seriously loved it. I think it was an amazing end to the series. Now, I have Ada's book to look forward too, which I know will be awesome. I really hope we get glimpses of Dex and Perry in her book, because I am going to miss them so hard. *sniff sniff* I know for sure, that this will be a series I will be re-reading many times in the future. If you have not read this series yet, what are you waiting for?!? You need to get on it because it really is that good. I definitely recommend everyone give this a try. Thanks, Karina Halle, for creating such an unforgettable, kickass story and characters. It was a blast!!

Writing this review is bitter sweet. The Experiment in Terror books were my first introduction to Karina Halle and since then I've read everything she ever published, under any name she used. With this being the last in the EIT saga, I feel as though I am saying goodbye to a group of friends that I've been with for years. That being said, all good things must come to an end, and I am really glad Halle ended this series before it got to the point where it felt forced and boring. It never even got close to that for me.

Dust to Dust picks up RIGHT at the major cliffhanger we were left with in Ashes to Ashes. If you have NOT read Ashes to Ashes, stop right here. There will be spoilers for it (but none for Dust to Dust)!

Dex is missing and Perry and Ada hop a plane to NY to find him. In true Dex and Perry fashion, nothing is quite as simple as it seems, and nothing goes quite the way they plan. Even if this whole trip were being filmed, no one would believe anyone has this bad of luck anyway.

Halle's writing is just so ... tight and clean (yeah yeah, insert a pervy joke here, we are talking about Dex after all ...) My emotions were on a constant swing the whole time, from stress and anxiety, to relief, to waiting for the other shoe to drop, and the next, and the next, to a bit turned on, to laughing, and yes, even some hiccupping sobs and even a few tears. This from a girl who rarely cries. I might have taken a picture as proof. I will neither confirm or deny this.

At the end I was left with a sense of completion. It really was the end of an era, and while I was certainly sad to see the words THE END for the last time at the end of an Experiment in Terror book, I am left with the feeling you get after leaving a friend for what you think might be the last time; sorrow touched with joy that they were in your life at all, no matter how briefly.

Thank you Halle, for giving me, and the world, Dex and Perry, and their journey. Warts and all. <3

If you remember the ending from Ashes to Ashes, you know that Dex's brother, Michael, has shown up and is up to no good. When Perry gets home, she finds out that Ada's been unconscious and Dex is missing!

As always, Dex and Perry are wonderful but I really liked that they were more connected to other people in this book. While the two of them together are strong, they are even stronger with others.

I was glad that Dex got to confront some things and put other things to rest. As always, it was wonderful having his POV especially with what was going on with him.

Perry has a lot more faith in her relationship and in Dex and she's not willing to just let things go. She's going to fight for them with everything she's got. And thankfully, she paid a little bit more attention to her dreams.

description

Because Perry's family and Maximus is with Perry and Dex in this story, it really doesn't leave a lot of steamy time. That doesn't mean there isn't steam, I mean, come on, this is Dex we're talking about. But still...I wanted more!

The scary part was a bit intense and probably more so because of all the personal history with Dex. And The Veil is even creepier! It was great how KH tied in some of the other books.

There were some definite surprises at the end that I did not see coming and it was just really sad! However, the epilogue was a-mazing!

So, it went out on a good note for the most part. I do feel a little deflated. I'm not sure if I expected more, I'm upset about the surprises or I'm just sad that it's over...maybe all three. I am happy that there will be more Ada with possible glimpses of Dex and Perry. And like KH said "Never say never".

Oh my god, so many emotions when it comes to this book and this series! I can’t believe I made it… I was simultaneously looking forward to this book and also dreading that it was all coming to an end. Experiment in Terror is my favorite series ever and I’m so happy to say it’s never let me down.
We were going down and we were going together. We didn’t win in the end, but together, we couldn’t lose.

Dust to Dust picks up right where Ashes to Ashes left off. Perry wakes up, disoriented and confused after her run in with Michael. It hits the ground running and is full on after that, with Dex missing and Perry, Ada, and Maximus frantically searching for him.
There was no such thing as strange occurrences – everything had a purpose. Everything was very real and very dangerous. There was no way any of this was going to be easy.

Their search leads them to New York City and it’s all action packed, emotion filled, scary craziness from then on. This book had a really different feeling than others in the series, for me. It’s not Dex and Perry working on their show, with downtime, tons of light banter and some scares here and there. This had a darker feeling to it. It’s literally life and death for everyone, with not a second to waste and I could feel that desperation as I read.
That’s the problem with you two, I reckon. Death seems like as obstacle sometimes. You have the false hope that you can get around anything. But Perry, some thing you can’t get around. Some things are final.

The scares were bigger, the surprises were jaw dropping, the danger was so much higher than ever before, and the emotion was tenfold. Dex and Perry have always had my heart and it was so perfect to see, with no doubts, their devotion to each other.
He let his fingers sink into my hair, stroking down the back of my head, holding onto the back of my neck. I loved it when he did that. Strong and meaningful, like he meant to protect me more than possess me. Like I was his but like he was mine and we would keep each other safe.

Never did their love falter or was there angst for no reason. I mean come on; this is book nine (not including the novellas), they deserve a break. Not that they got one in the paranormal sense, but as far as their relationship, it’s solid and that was a HUGE plus. I just loved that they were so unwavering.
“Perry, I love you,” he said, voice gruff and full of conviction.
“I love you absolutely, resolutely. There is no question, no doubt. This love just is. It exists and because it exists, I exist.”

Even though this book has a very serious feel, don’t worry, we still get some of that famous Dex snark and laughs.
“You’re such a dick, Dex.”
“I don’t mind being called a dick. Why not highlight my best feature, right?”

I could go on for ages about how much I love each and every one of these characters and every single book. I am horrible about staying current on series I love, but this is the one and only series I have counted down the days until release date for every book and read it the second I could get my hands on it. It took me a few days to recover from reading THE END for the final time, it was a very surreal experience. All I can say is if you haven’t read this series, I highly recommend you do! It’s fun, action packed, a little scary, and has the BEST romance and sexual tension I have ever read.

The last EIT book ever. Dex and Perry have survived a number of life and death situations. But will they be able to survive this?

This book was probably the scariest yet emotionally draining book of the entire series. Perry still as awesome as ever. Dex broke my heart but leave it to him to bring some humour. This book hurt so much!

Love everything about this series. The fun banter, the scary time, Perry, the sexy time, the angst, even the cliffies that pissed me off, and of course Dexy Dexy Dexy. Favourite couple of all time!

Thank you to all the ladies who joined the BR.

Thank you to Karina Halle for writing this amazing, unforgettable series. I'm sad it ended, but Dex and Perry will always have a special place in my heart. So many of my goodreads friendships were originally based on our shared love of this series! Dex and Perry have a fan base like no other fictional couple, they are loved hard by some very loyal readers:)

For anyone who hasn't read this, the first book in the series is free. and it's awesome. Darkhouse (Experiment in Terror, #1) by Karina Halle

“Grief is this thing, a hand of water that reaches into your lungs, and drowns you.”

The whole experience while reading this, the final EIT book, was bittersweet. We’ve come to the end, no more Dex and Perry and their crazy antics.

description

The reason why my rating is lower for this, than all other EIT books is that perhaps I expected something more for the grand finale; instead we got an average EIT book. So in terms of plot, this one is weaker than e.g. book #3 – Dead Sky Morning (my personal favorite). It somehow felt repetitive, but it could be that I’ve grown accustomed to Halle’s writing style and what to expect from this series. But on the other hand, it also felt necessary – the story came full circle and was concluded nicely.

description

So even though, I wanted something more epic for series finale, I still loved it, because it’s Perry & Dex and they will always be dear to me and Experiment in Terror series is one of my fave by Karina Halle. If there are two things Halle knows how to do, it is – write some good sexual tension and scare the shit out of you.

description

I really love how Halle writes horror and I hope for another similar series in the future. If anything – we’re getting a spin-off about Ada (Veiled) and I couldn’t be happier.

Therefore, I highly recommend EIT, it’s a weird mix of Supernatural and the X-Files and a series that definitely has brought me closer to paranormal & horror. A series full of craziness, sexiness and scariness and as such I will always be dear to me!

Holy McFuck! I can’t believe it’s over! *wail*

“I love you, beyond death.”

I’m devastated that there will be no more Dex and Perry, but Karina Halle has given us a wonderful finish to Experiment in Terror. And though there are some big surprises thrown in there, and not everybody makes it out alive, it was a great send off for two of my all-time favourite characters.

She was in my arms and she was safe and I was safe and the rest of the world could go to hell for all I cared.

I felt that this book had a darker, more subdued feeling to it than others in the series. The story itself is very fast moving and I felt like it didn’t have the build up that other books in the series have had, although with this being the last book of the series, it’s more of a wind down/finishing up, so maybe that’s fitting. That’s not to say that that stuff doesn’t happen, because there’s a lot that happens in this book! It's actiony and emotional, and it scared the bejeesus out of me and had me brimming with excitement at all that goes down.

It picks up straight after the ending of Ashes to Ashes, with Dex and Perry no longer having to deal with the pressures of creating Experiment in Terror, but facing their very own demons (literally). I don’t want to be all spoilery, but I will say that both Dex and Perry’s pasts play a big part in this story, so PLEASE be sure that you have read all of the previous books and novellas in this series before even attempting to start this book. Karina has tied everything together so brilliantly, you would miss so much if you didn’t have the complete picture going in, because this book is full of surprises, and some huge shocks that had me screaming at my kindle. And not everybody will survive the big finale (*sniff*).

The beginning of the end? What the hell was wrong with me? When did I turn into such a fatalistic douche?

I could go on and on about my love for Dex, but if you’re reading this review, chances are you’re already a fan of the series, so you’re just as hopeless over him as I am. As a romantic leading man, he really steps it up in this one with lots of touchy-feely and declarations of love. He goes through a lot in this book, and it’s all incredibly intense - I ached for him. His moments of vulnerability were heartbreaking. But he is still the same old sarcastic, smutty and crude bastard that we all love madly.

“What were you doing in there?” she asked, unwilling to let it go.
... “Jacking off, naturally.” She narrowed her eyes but seemed to be happy with that answer. Good to know. She was going to make a fabulous wife.

And let us not forget Perry! She is a fantastic heroine and I love her to bits! She’s not a superhero out saving the world, she’s a normal girl with normal reactions, the type of girl we can all probably relate to. Yet there is something so very special about her. She’s funny, kind and incredibly brave, and she has a huge heart and loves fully. She’s the kind of girl you’d want to be best friends with. And she and Dex together are absolute gold!

It thrills me to say that they are still all loved-up and blissful together, and things between them are incredibly swoony and full of hotness.

“Perry, I love you,” he said, voice gruff and full of conviction. “I love you absolutely, resolutely. There is no question, no doubt. This love just is. It exists and because it exists, I exist …
“You, only you, just you as you are, are my reason for being.”

I am so thankful that Karina didn’t go down the too-often-used route of creating drama for them just for the sake of added conflict or angst. It wasn’t needed, and it would have been so wrong for Dex and Perry after everything they’ve been through. While the UST in the earlier books of the series is absolutely phenomenal, and is part of what makes this series so outstanding, now that they are together, the romance is magic, and I’m so glad she didn’t mess with that.

“I just need to look at you.”
“Then keep looking, kiddo,” he said. My heart may have melted like a pat of butter on hot bread. “Because I’m looking at you. I don’t think I could ever stop.”

Karina Halle has given us something incredibly special with Experiment in Terror. Not only has my vocabulary been expanded with some stellar Dex-isms, but I have adored each and every book in this series and Dex and Perry remain one of my all-time favourite book couples. Their journey has been incredible, and I have felt so much while reading their story – I’ve laughed, cried, squeed and swooned, and I’ve sobbed my heart out – more than once. I’ve also been terrified beyond belief, and I’ve loved every single minute of it.

I’m so sad there will be no more, but I am really happy with where the story ended up – and yes, there’s an epilogue, and it left me grinning like a fool! I look forward to many rereads of these books in the future.

I loved this book – 4 stars.

But for the series as a whole – 5+++ stars all the way!

Dear Dex,

and...

It has been 143 days since I've seen you last and I still have 33 days until I see you again in Dust to Dust. But who's counting? ;)

I'm going to warn you now that this will be me by the end of the series...

I'm just not ready to say goodbye to you, Perry, or the Experiment in Terror series for that matter. You will forever own a huge piece of my heart and will always be one of my top book boyfriends!♥ I love your witty sense of humor, your sarcasm, your perviness, your loyalty, your sexiness, & the unique nicknames you come up with LOL.

I just wanted to take a moment to let you know just how much you mean to me. I am going to savor every word.. paragraph.. page.. and chapter of Dust to Dust. Then I will probably end up reading the entire series again just because I can't get enough of you! =)

I will be counting down the minutes until I can see you again, Dex♥

xoxo
Sammy

P.S. I still wish I could be the future Mrs. Foray

P.P.S. I also still want to...

I want to give this book all of these stars ...

It's no surprise to me that 3 of the best books I've read (so far) this year are from Karina Halle. After every one of her books, I swear it's better than the last. I'm confident that she's found some writing magic ... and I want her to keep using it!

Dust to Dust marks the end to an absolutely EPIC series. My favorite! And what an amazing ending! Filled with agony, humour, terror and love. My heart has been broken and mended, my nerves have been shot and my mind ... not sure how much of it is left.

Am I sad that it's all over? Yes ... But I am forever thankful for the experience. It certainly has been a WILD ride! And of course, I plan on taking the ride over & over again ... likely until I puke or fall over from exhaustion ... 'cause I'm crazy like that.

"I love you absolutely, resolutely. There is no question, no doubt. This love just is. It exists, and because it exists, I exist."

5 'Hey, Kiddo' stars

The EIT series is one of my favorite series to date and the only horror books I read. I discover Darkhouse through GR back in February 2013. Wow! It didn't sounds that long ago, but honestly, with the way our characters are developing and growing through 9 freaking books and 4 novellas, it felt like years. I meant it in a good way, as if I knew Dex and Perry all my life. I watched them grow from two crazy and messed up individual who went to ghost hunting expedition to two person who are so in sync and in love with each other.

Dex at first glance - crazy, maniac, lunatic, pervert, disgusting and complete with rapist facial hair

Perry at first glance - girl-next-door, naive, innocent, insecure about her body image

The things they do have in common - they see ghost!

Let me reminiscence on how it all started...

"Somehow, by dealing with the dead, I had never felt so alive." - Perry discovering her ability to see paranormal beings in Darkhouse.

“Dex, I hope you never stop feeling alive.”
“As long as you’re around, I’ll be alive.”

Perry and Dex in Red Fox.

“Sorry I licked your face.” - Dex to Perry in Dead Sky Morning. I don't know why I just can't forget this scene.

“I guess I am just a pervert with rapist facial hair.”
“Well, you’re my kind of pervert.”

Dex and Perry in Dead Sky Morning. This entire book is about two of them isolated on the creepy island.

“I want you to stay with me. And that’s the problem. Every time you leave me, I need you a little bit more.” - Dex to Perry in Lying Season. The most angst-filled of the series and the ending... just killed me.

“He was still a douchecanoe. The douchecanoe who was going to paddle me to safety.” - Perry about Dex in On Demon Wings. Dex was mainly MIA here, but he did came out to save the day. This is one of the creepiest installment.

“Do you really think you’ll win me over by having sex with me?”
“Well, they say the way to a woman’s heart is through her vagina.”

Dex trying to win back Perry in Into the Hollow after the clusterfuck at the end of Lying Season.

"Baby, the first chance I get, I'm going to fuck the shit out of you"
"I think it's called making love now."
"Then I'm fucking making love the shit out of you."

Dex and Perry in Come Alive. Totally fangirling here. Dex and Perry is finally an official couple. This is the only full length installment completely in Dex's POV and dirty as fuck. Be prepare to be totally scandalized by Dex.

"I'm Dex Foray, the only penis involved in the show." Dex in Ashes to Ashes

Dust to Dust gave me the perfect ending in every way. Karina Halle manage to outdo herself and give me something really special for a finale that I actually dread reading. I mean, I don't want this series to end.

I'm not going to talk much about the plot. Is creepy, scary, horrible and life threatening as usual. The difference is I felt the humor and silly one liners by Dex had been tone down to give way for him to deal with some serious shit. There are so much heartache and sorrow and I miss certain someone dearly, but I guess we can't have a totally fairy tale ending. Despite some tears of sadness, I find the ending really fitting and poignant. Of course, there is a HEA and I am already imagining little Dexy babies.

A big Thank You to Karina Halle for giving us such a phenomenal series to read. I secretly hope she will give us more Dex and Perry in her spin off. If you have not read this series, what are you waiting for?! Darkhouse is free on Amazon and Smashwords.

I love you, beyond death.

Wow, what a book! What a series! I can't remember the last time (or ever) that I was so taken with a series of books. I put these books off for years because they didn't seem to be my thing. I kept seeing people give them 5 star ratings over and over. My friends kept recommending them to me. I read The Artist Trilogy and Love, in English and became a HUGE fan of Karina Halle. So, finally I thought I would give EIT a try. Oh my, I was sucked in right from the beginning of Darkhouse. Perry and Dex got their claws in me and I submerged myself in their world. I dove in book after mysteriously incredible book. I couldn't put them down. Each one was better than the one before it, to my astonishment. These books made me feel every emotion possible. The creativity and imagination that it took to write these crazy, awesome story-lines blows my mind. Karina Halle really is an amazing author. I have fallen completely in love with Dex. That man is mysterious, pervy, protective, loving, and flat-out sexy.

Perry has her insecurities as we all do, but she is so strong, brave, and smart.

The two of them together are pure magic. I love how their relationship progressed throughout the series, even the steps back they took. I was dreading reading this last book and having to say goodbye to them. But, after reading, I have a sweet sense of peace that everything happened as it should have and I'm happy where the series ended. I'm really looking forward to reading Ada's spin-off and Maximus's book. As with all of Karina Halle's books, I highly recommend this series... seriously read these, they are too great to pass up. :)

Read July 2014- I couldn't wait to read this book, but at the same time I didn't want it to end. Dex and Perry are my favorite literary couple ever and Experiment in Terror is my all time favorite book series. So, as excited as I was to see what would happen to the couple I refer to as Derry, I also didn't want to say goodbye to them.
The end of Ashes to Ashes had an OMG moment and we get transported back there pretty quickly in Dust to Dust. The book just took off from there. This book was fast paced and action packed. As many answers were given, new questions arose and I just ate up every word. I laughed, I gasped, I cried. No, I sobbed. And I loved every minute of it.
Book perfection. Series perfection. Character perfection. Derry perfection.

I don't even know what to say about this book, I've purged all my emotional venting several installments ago. As to why I read in the first place, I believe it's tied into my "finish what you start" life agenda and mostly because as characters I really enjoyed Dex and Perry, separately. I suppose this many books in I just needed a little bit of closure, and I for one can go on into life never thinking about these books again. As far as the series as a whole, I cannot honestly say that I won't recommend it to anyone, despite my personal feelings I do understand that "fluff entertainment" holds value, and that is what this is. It's just not my kind of fluff.

Looking at this installment only, it's pretty much what you would expect from a book that has a singular agenda.

...loosing focus...

I took so many notes, quotes and jotted down thoughts and after finishing the book, I realize that none of it matters. It's done with and I can let go now.

I think Halle remained true to her loyal fans and gave them much needed book to say goodbye. Then... I read the last page and was told that there is a whole new series spinning off from this book, and I am left with nothing else to say.

“Perry, I love you,” he said, voice gruff and full of conviction.
“I love you absolutely, resolutely. There is no question, no doubt. This love just is. It exists and because it exists, I exist.”

This is by far, one of the hardest reviews I will ever write. When I first stumbled upon the EIT series I wasn’t sure if it would be for me. I had never read horror (besides a few R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike books when I was younger) but after reading such things as “slow-burn romance” and “sexy sarcastic hero” I decided to take a chance and check it out. I had no clue that this series would change my life.

“We were Dex and Perry and our relationship seemed to thrive on the universe being out of order.”

I know that statement comes off as dramatic but reading Darkhouse changed everything for me. For starters, it was one of the first indie books I ever read. At this point in my life I wasn’t aware that there was such a thing as independently published books. Secondly, I found many of my closest friends through our mutual love of this series. And lastly, because of this series I became a blogger. I loved talking all things Dex, Perry and Karina Halle that I wanted to share my love of all these things with others. I owe many things to this series so saying goodbye is bittersweet.

“I love you! Always have, always will. Always!”

Now I could do a standard review and tell you how Dust to Dust is scary, heartbreaking, a perfect circle and an amazing end to my favorite series, but I would like this review to go out in style. So with a nod to a previous post I did last year, 10 Things Experiment in Terror Taught Me, I give you:

5 THINGS DEX AND PERRY TAUGHT ME

1. LOVE SOMEONE THAT MAKES YOU LAUGH

“Well, I’m not God. But Perry calls me that sometimes.”

2. LOVE SOMEONE THAT SINGS TO YOU

http://youtu.be/S-dxuwv4vs4

3. LOVE SOMEONE THAT MAKES YOU BRAVE

“We were going down and we were going together. We didn’t win in the end, but together, we couldn’t lose.”

4. LOVE SOMEONE THAT MAKES YOU FEEL ALIVE

“….because seeing Perry run toward me, her face scrunched in the sheer desire to reach me, did something to my soul. It grabbed at me, clawed at me, made me realize just how damn empty i’d been without her by my side…”

5. LOVE IS SOMETHING DEATH CAN’T TOUCH

“I love you. Always. Beyond death.”

These past 2 years have been a wild and crazy ride. I am forever grateful to Karina Halle for giving me a series and characters that have entertained and inspired me. Derry forever!

Dust to Dust Karina Halle Teaser

The Experiment in Terror series is one that will always have a special place in my heart. Not only because it's special in how it effortlessly braids horror and romance together, but for the community it has created. I've met many of my best friends because of this series. It never fails to amaze me the amount of fans that come together in the absolute need for fucking therapy while reading Dex and Perry's adventures through this fucked up wonderland.

That is really what the Experiment in Terror series has been, some kind of fucked up wonderland. And Halle nailed the finale with the perfect amount of fear, heartache and unconditional love.

Perry and Dex have been through hell and back many times, but this time...the evils that be are determined to claim lives. It's truly a race against time and across country to face one last big bad.

Perry shows new strengths in this final installment. There is a lot she has to face on her own and they don't all come in the form of cloven hoofed demons. Some come with the face of someone she loves. Perry's growth over the series still feels very natural to me. She doesn't change overnight, it takes time, mistakes, lessons learned, yet always comes out just a little stronger than before. She will always be one of my favorite heroins, because she feels so real.

Dex changes as well but in smaller, less obvious ways. He'll always be one of my favorite heroes and let's face it, it's because of his crude ass mouth. He says the best things.

The scary was so good in Dust to Dust. Think gaping hole mouths, black eyes, giant bugs and some really pissed off ghosts from the past. Mirrors and my husband going down on me will never quite be the same. <--- gotta read the book to know about that fun fact. Dust to Dust gave me the same feel good chills that I got from On Demon Wings, which has always been my favorite book of the series.

But, outside of the scary is the tenderness. The love that took so long to show. The sacrifices that some are willing to make. At times it warmed my heart and at times broke it. Really broke it and while it was all shattered and lying spread on the ground, Halle comes right back to walk all over it with bloody shoes. Then returns, to mend you all back up with Barbie BandAids.

If you are already a fan of the series, you won't be disappointed with how it concludes. If you haven't yet started the series, well..at least you won't have to wait with held breath for the next. It's done baby and I could not be more happy with it.

Final rating: 4.75/5 stars

“I love you absolutely, resolutely. There is no question, no doubt. This love just is. It exists and because it exists, I exist. (...) you, only you, just as you are, are my reason for being.””

First of all, this won't be long review - mostly because of I am emotionally drained and because I really have no idea what to write about.

It's been a long journey. It was also scary, fun, crazy, insane and totally amazing. Having read all the books from this series, i can only say this: it's worth it. Every minute of it.

Maybe this book was not as strong as it's prequels, but it definitely kept my attention till the end and it was great. Horror novels are not really my thing, since they don't scare me, but these books... these books had that unique air, atmosphere and that intense feel, as you dread of what might befall your beloved characters.

Anyway, this is it, this is the end, and i enjoyed the ride. Thankfully, author plans to make series about Ada, who is just as crazy and lovable as her sister is, so i can't wait.

Wow, what an ending to my most favourite series ever!!

Karina Halle gave us an action packed, scary as fuck final instalment. Following on from Ashes to ashes, Perry finds herself in Manhattan in search of Dex who has been kidnapped by his brother.

I was literally on the edge of my seat, and my heart was beating like a drum...right before it broke.

Dex and Perry are my most favourite book couple so if you haven't read this series and fancy something a bit different in your romance books then this is the one to choose.

I'm sad to say goodbye, it's been an emotional couple of years.
