Shifters Sanctuary #3

His Unicorn Alpha

Rate this book
Micah did knot see any of this coming...

With his subspecies on the verge of extinction, omega dragon shifter Brandt Weldman is working to find a solution. His brother’s research, coupled with the gradual reappearance of alphas in a world where they were thought to no longer exist, has reignited his hope that not only might they be able to save the dragons, but he might also have children —a family— of his own.

Because that is what he longs for the most. A family.

When routine lab results present him with the opportunity to have exactly that, Brandt’s ethics are put to the test.
It’s easier to ask forgiveness rather than permission, isn’t it?

Meanwhile, horse shifter beta Micah Hawthorne has found himself in a rut…and not the fun kind with the knotting and the heats and all that jazz. No, he’s in a life rut.

Something underneath his skin itches for him to leave New York, even though he’s living a life he always thought he wanted. A life where his inadequacies are more easily accepted. A life where he feels as though he fits in. His shifter side insists that it’s only a half-life, though.

Deciding to visit his former roommates in their shifter commune in Iowa, Micah thinks he’ll reset emotionally and then be on his way. He is not expecting the curveball fate throws at him when he gets there.

With Micah and Brandt surprising each other, they might just agree that fate knew what it was doing by pairing them up. But will they be able to weather all of the universe’s other surprises as they try to make things work between them?

While this is a predominately sweet & steamy mpreg Omegaverse romance with low relationship angst and zero miscommunication between the MCs once they meet, His Unicorn Alpha does cover some potentially upsetting topics and themes with hurt/comfort elements and some angst from external conflicts.

These infertility, pregnancy complications, premature birth, gender/breed disappointment, a postnatal depressive episode, body issues/self-confidence, size-related insecurity/anxiety (an MC with a microp3nis), and implantation of embryos/conception without the donor's explicit consent.

His Unicorn Alpha is the third book in the Shifters Sanctuary series. In my opinion this series is best read in order. This is the story of Brandt an omega dragon shifter and Micah a beta horse shifter. This book does have a few questionable things going on but Anna Sparrows handles them so well. I couldn't wait to read this story because I was really wanted Brandt's story. I couldn't put this book down and finished it in less than a day. These guys are just perfect for each other even with the things they went through. I loved the new information about alpha's and the magic of the world. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

“His Unicorn Alpha“ is the 3rd book in the Shifters Sanctuary series by Anna Sparrows. This is a series that is best read in order as there is a lot involved with the overarching story and missing a book could cause a lot of confusion. Plus, there are a lot of characters and events from previous books that are important and the shifter world and knowledge keeps evolving.

I read back through my previous reviews for the series and I can say my views in those reviews are accurate. This is a world where humans are rediscovering the shifters and shifters are rediscovering magic. There is still a lot that is based in the non-magical but more magic is reappearing and things are developing with understanding of the magic and shifters in general. There are some things that feel “too good,” but that makes a happy read and some of that is the background of one of the MCs.

Brandt and Micah are great together. They had so much going on from the start that things are rushed but the couple do try and take the time to get to know one another outside of their mate attraction. They build a real connection. There is a lot of heart and feeling in this book and the MCs both have a lot to deal with and together they are able to handle the good and the bad. (Don’t worry, there is always a great HEA in an Anna Sparrows book.)

I am going to admit that after reading the excerpt in the previous book I felt unease about reading this book. If you’ve read it you probably know why. But, I really liked the other books and I needed to give this book a try. I’m glad I did. The issues I had were handled with care and compassion and while not entirely ok, are understandable.

Overall, this is a great shifter mpreg read and this entire series is one I highly recommend.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

This is an interesting book in the realm of dragons and unicorns. Shifter Sanctuary is a new shifter community which has three sets of alpha and omega mates, unusual because alphas have only recently been reappearing in the world, and all three are here in Shifter Sanctuary. Brandt is a dragon shifter, an omega, and he has yearned for centuries to have babies, but unfortunately, there are no alphas, and the species is close to extinction. Through the work of Brandt and his omega dragon brother, they are working on trying to find shifters that may be potentially affected by “hidden alpha syndrome”, which when triggered by their fated mate, allows the alpha hidden within to emerge. When Brandt discovers that his test eggs have combined with an unknown possible sample, it causes him to pit his ethics against his desires for children of his own. When he meets the owner of the sample, he must face the consequences of his actions, and hope his choice may be forgiven. Facing Micah, the horse-shifter beta of the sample, they realize fate and magic may have combined to give them both something they dearly want, a possible way to save the dragon species for Brandt and for the children desired by both. The universe also has another surprise or two in store for them as a combination of fate and magic, leading to challenges but a life both desire.

This is the third book in the series, and characters carry over from one book to the next. There is ancient lore involved, secret spells and ancient magic, along with scientific research and advances, working together to attempt to unlock more alphas in the world to bring the balance back. Species on the edge of extinction and species only known in legend and lore are here to validate the place of fate and magic in the shifter world, and encourage the efforts to regain the lost knowledge. There are more books to come, so the opportunity for the emergence of more alphas is definitely there. A well-built world and relatable and realistic characters in the shifter universe make for an entertaining and interesting story.

Whew I’m not quite sure where to start with this one. The previous two books in this series were by no means perfect but they were enjoyable with interesting characters and a plot that kept things moving. This book? A fail on all three fronts.

Brandt was a character who doomed themselves in the first few chapters. He, a couple hundred years ago old dragon who has worked in science and medicine his entire life, throws away his code of ethics with the sketchiest and most nonsensical excuse!? We were supposed to sympathize with him because he was worried about the extinction of his race and was baby crazy!? No. He himself said the fertilized eggs would have been viable for a few days and he couldn’t be bothered to pick up the phone at least? Even if he claims he wanted nothing from Micah and he didn’t have to be in their lives, what was he going to tell his kids when they were old enough to ask about their other biological parent?!? It was gross and icky and pissed me off.

Then there’s Micah, who rolls with everything with barely a moment of hesitation or blink and who then proceeds to spend the rest of the book basically being as interesting as a lamp shade. He was needed for the spicy scenes but otherwise his character was completely useless.

Now for some more ick. What the heck was this author thinking with the entire storyline about Micah’s lineage? Apparently Brandt’s horrible decision at the beginning wasn’t enough, this author wanted to also involve what amounts to SA. Micah finds out his father is most likely not his father and when he questions this, his parents explain they went to a shaman for help with infertility and they don’t remember much but she ended up pregnant six weeks later. Then we meet the bio dad and he tries to explain it away by saying it was consensual sex!? It’s gross and wrong and I hated every moment of this storyline.

I didn’t like the MMCs, I didn’t like the plot, I didn’t like how inappropriate the main storylines were, I didn’t like the spice and I didn’t like the explanation / plan for awakening the alpha gene.

Don’t read this book. Just skip it.

I love Shifter Sanctuary. I started it with book two, which is when I started ARC reading for Anna Sparrows. The good thing about this series is that you don't necessarily need to read the others to understand what's going on. She gives enough detail that you don't really get lost if you haven't read the others. Do I recommend you read the first two before this one? 100% yes. Not only do you get more details about the other Shifters and what they went through, but it's a pretty awesome universe to dive into anyway. I read book two, book one and book three in that order and I didn't feel like I missed anything by doing so.

I was so excited when we found out that Anna was writing a book about the dragons. They intrigued me so much, even being just side characters in the previous book. Like.... DRAGONS!!! And it was exactly what I was hoping for. Did I expect Micah? No. 😂 Micah's.... transformation was not on my bingo card for this book. Not even close. But it was brilliant! I loved that we got to see how their lives changed to fit their mate. Bring in all the plot twists and magic and the connection of being fated mates makes for a book you can lose yourself in. There were times I was so engrossed in the story that I lost hours to this universe. It also had a nice segue into the next book, which I cannot wait to read either.

The only thing I wish I could have read would be the second pregnancy. I wish we could have read when they officially found out and when they found out the gender. I feel like the gender of the triplets was such an important scene that I wish we would have gotten that with the second.

This is the 3rd book in the series and honestly I believe that you should read the books in order so that you get the true meaning of Shifter Sanctuary and understand things that are in this book.

Brandt is a dragon and in Omega. HJis kind are on the verge extinction he decides to do something that no other scientist has done before and is forbidden. He can't help himself and doesn't think of the consequences when he does it. Now things have changed for him and he so longs for his own Alpha and family. When a certain Alpha comes to town, Brandt can't help but feel the pull and connection towards him but he also has his own secret.

Micah is a horse shifter and beta - that's all he's ever known. His life is stuck in a rut and he is trying to figure out what to do. He misses his friends back at Shifter Sanctuary and can't help but feel something drawing him to go back to that place. He brushes it off and keeps working. After talking to his mom, he decides that he will go back to see his friends. When he arrives, he feels the pull even stronger and shortly he will find out why and the secret that a certain Omega has been hiding. Micah will now have to decide what to do.

Neither one of them expected what happens next and they both believe that maybe fate is playing games with them. They both have a long way to go but also a lot of learning to do as well for a certain someone.

This book is so good and I loved every thing in it. Brandt and Micah are just so good for each other and fate has a way of surprising everyone. I love the series and so excited to see what happens next.

#I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.

From the moment they meet, Brandt and Micah quickly learn they are absolutely perfect for one another on so many levels. The attraction is instant and even though each man has some level of body issues, the other makes it clear they see no issues whatsoever. The more time they spend together, the deeper their connection grows, and even after a quick mating, they continue to get to know one another even better. Despite the profound feelings they have towards one another, they take their time before saying I love you, giving those three little words immeasurable meaning. They definitely have some ups and downs, but their love shines through it all and leads them to a beautiful HEA.
This book is packed full of emotions like guilt, frustration, hope and love. It is very entertaining, has questionable ethics, sizzling chemistry, disappointments, surprises, and ancient magical mysteries. Two wonderfully deserving MC's, many amazing secondary characters that add so much to the story, and new adventures on the horizon. This book is part of a series and needs to be read in order so you can understand certain aspects of it.
For me, some parts dragged on too much, and sometimes there was no follow through on what was said. For example, after Micah became an alpha, did he get a specific birthmark? The question was asked and they said they would check, but there was no actual checking or an answer, it was just never mentioned again.

I received an ARC, this is my honest opinion.

I am really enjoying this series and how science is mixed with "magic". Brandt and his brother's arrived at Shifter Sanctuary to offer their protection and to use their medical knowledge to try and come up with a solution to the Alpha problem and if Brandt can save his dragon species from extinction then is it a win.
Whilst science was involved in the pregnancy, fate played a big role as well. Micah took everything thrown at him in his stride and was perfect for Brandt. He supported Brandt through all the emotions Brandt had felt, from the moment Brandt had come clean about what he had done, to Brandt giving birth. But Brandt gave back as much, helping Micah with his self-confidence.
Whilst there were some delicate subjects in Brandt and Micah's story, these scenes were handled with sensitivity and I found myself liking them even more. The interactions between Brandt and his brothers had me laughing and whilst at times there were strong words between them you could see how close they were.
Even with the title I was still surprised with the reveal. With more of the magic being revealed I am excited to see how this story progresses and having more banter from the dragons, I cannot wait

This entertaining book is steamy, humorous, and romantic and is filled with great characters and wonderful found family. It can be read as a standalone, but the preceding two books develop the story and the characters to date and give you lots of background. Brandt is an omega dragon, and a scientist, who has always wanted children. He crosses an ethical line to become pregnant, but his motives make that difficult to fault.
Micah thinks he is a beta horse shifter, until he meets Brandt. I love how he takes all his rapid life changes in stride, especially the imminent arrival of triplets. I would expect him to freak out just a little bit more. I would have enjoyed a short scene with his mom visiting after the triplets' birth, since I found her very likable.
I like the mix of science and magic in the book, as well as the overarching plot between all the books. There's good world building and intriguing subplots. And it's hard not to enjoy a story with dragons and unicorns!

This series just gets better and better.

With a captivating and vibrantly depicted world, characters and found family continuing to strengthen and grow, and a riveting and engaging plot flowing through each installment, this series is simply breathtaking.

In this book we see oldest dragon brother Brandt pregnant and finding his HEA with horse shifter and former roommate of Alpha Beckett, Micah.

These two are amazing together. I mean chemistry! Two Characters that we already know and love being brought to life even further and taken on a journey that had me on the edge of my seat.

More rich and exciting plot points revealed, new characters introduced, and the tension between two equally lovable characters further hinted at and partially revealed as two of the main characters for the next book.

I cannot wait to experience what happens next. Five stars. An amazing and unique Omegaverse series.

Adorable MM Omegaverse

I'm loving this series. It's perfect for fans of Piper Scott or Raiven Matthew's omegaverse series. It's has a world with more than one gender (unlike some omegaverse books), different sexual orientations, diverse omegas, betas, alphas & relationship dynamics... and also all the knotty MPreg fun & the overarching story arc abiut science, magic & changing the world order.

This book doesn't have the action & drama of the previous books, but the dynamics of Brandt, the older, softer, dragon omega researcher, who is desperate for children of his own, and Micah, the younger shifter, are adorable.

In this, you'll find:
💜MM Shifter Omegaverse
💜Older dragon omega
💜Horse shifter in his 30s
💜AOB designations
💜Multiple gender world
💜Pregnancy & birth
💜IVF & infertility
💜Impregnation without the donor's consent
💜Multiple birth
💜Special care baby unit
💜Parentage questions

It’s OK

I like paranormal and shifter themed MM stories and that’s what I thought this was. The first 2 books mostly were, but book 3 spends most of its energy detailing the physical and emotional trials surrounding female pregnancy. Yes, these are males and the theme is MPREG but this book writes about typical female pregnancy issues, emotions and complaints. And sex, lots of detailed sex scenes, more erotica than romance.
There is a thread of a story behind all of the female issues but it often is pushed aside. The book ends with a lack of resolution, some ongoing story threads, and no clear direction forward. Having made it this far, I doubt I will continue into the next installment. If you’re interested in pregnancy issues and MM sex, this might be entertaining, but for me it was less than I had hoped for. The quality of the writing kept my rating at 3 stars, the content determined that low rating.

Based entirely on the blurb, I thought this was gonna be an absolute angst-fest which I’m not a huge fan of, so colour me surprised when this was low angst! The low angst is part of what really draws me to Anna Sparrows’ writing: she manages to create a fully fleshed out story with amazingly detailed characters, without throwing unnecessary angst in.

His Unicorn Alpha is so good, and probably my favourite in the series so far. Plus, there’s a little sneak peek at the end of the next book and I literally can’t wait to read it.

Micah and Brandt… Brandt made an executive decision about them before they even met, and Micah just… accepted it. He just knew Brandt was the one for him and nothing was gonna stop that 🥹 I loved this pairing so much.

Thank you Anna Sparrows for the ARC. This review is entirely my own.

Brandt, an omega dragon shifter, dreams of saving his endangered subspecies and starting a family, but his efforts lead him to an ethical crossroads when an unexpected opportunity arises. Meanwhile, beta horse shifter Micah feels stuck in a hollow life in New York. Seeking clarity, he visits a shifter commune in Iowa, where fate intertwines his path with Brandt’s. As they navigate surprises and challenges, they must decide if their connection is strong enough to withstand what the universe has in store.

This was a sweet story as the two fated mates came together and after bonding Micah had to handle another change as he became an unicorn alpha. It was also interesting as the residents of Shifters Sanctuary found out more. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content set in the omegaverse with MPREG.

A magical addition to the series

His Unicorn Alpha is the third book in the Shifters Sanctuary series. While I do think you could read it as a standalone, it would be much better to read them all in order as there is an overarching plot (or plots?) which is progressing (and it is also nice to see the progress in the next book, of the couples from the previous).

Brandt and Micah have such great chemistry, both super sweet and steamy, they build an amazing relationship from questionable beginnings (written so sensitively).  I love the world that Anna Sparrows is building, the friends, found families, the magic. I can't wait for the next book which we get a little (super intriguing) sneak peak of at the end.

I read an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

4.5/5 I really enjoyed Brandt and Micah finding one another (under highly unusual circumstances). I appreciated that it was really acknowledged that Brandt did something wrong (but also that he had very good reasons). The two of them together was very heart-warming as they accepted one another as they were and didn’t try to change one another. (I really liked all the body positivity and slowly growing body acceptance.)

Shifters Sanctuary is an awesome town, and I love how everyone comes together to support everyone else. I liked the progress we made on the bigger plot here, and I’m looking forward to seeing the results in the next book(s).

I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.

His Unicorn Alpha is the third book in the Shifters Sanctuary series, and it truly benefits from reading the previous books first. The series features an expanding world where humans are rediscovering the existence of shifters and are gradually unlocking long-lost magical roots. The mythology and character connections deepen with each book, so starting from the beginning enhances the experience.

Brandt and Micah's story is fast-paced yet full of heart. Despite the intensity of their mate bond, they strive to connect beyond the magic, building something genuine together. Both characters face emotional and personal challenges, but their bond helps them grow stronger as a team. This addition was a warm, emotional enhancement to a compelling series.

the way this is gonna be immortalised as my final review of 2025 in my year in books...🤡🎪

anyways, buddy read this with catherine as always. i have to agree with her that i would have liked a more complex drama surrounding the whole medical ethics thing, that would have been a rlly cool character study i think. but also, this isn't exactly literary fiction so i feel that's also a bit too much of an unfair expectation given the genre.

i also liked that micah and brandt had an entirely different relationship dynamic/vibe to the previous 2 books' couples, it was quite refreshing? to see. and as always, i do be an old man yaoi truther at heart, so a 500-year-old "middle-aged by dragon standards" guy is like YES 😌🎀 you go, buddy, get that old man pregnant 👏👏👏

Brandt and Micah’s story was great! I loved the connection and chemistry between these two. I really liked that these two kept thinking that if things went differently, they may have been bonded sooner. I liked that there were not true issues between Brandt and Micah with the girls came to be and that they were able to talk it out and there is understanding on both sides. I, personally, wished that there was not as much “science talk” but I did think I would like with future books. I am looking forward to more from this wonderful pack.

Brandt ❤️Micah

Thank you for the book, here is my honest opinion:
I’m loving the world building taking place in this series. It’s a cool premise, the discovery of Hidden Alpha Syndrome set up so many new and interesting possibilities. Brandt took the opportunity to research fertility, ideally to help others dragon shifters like him and his brother. I enjoyed all the science-y stuff in this, it was an effective way to make the story feel more grounded. It’s pretty sweet how super excited both Brandt and Micah are over the prospect of being parents together. A fantastic series, looking forward to seeing what comes next.

keep it up

This was so amazing. As Anna says I think they gave truly sank into shifter sanctuary.
I loved this story I wish I was still in it. These two were just amazing together. I love their love. How patient and understanding they were with each other. They both had hurt but they healed together. All the will moving the overall plot further. I hope they get their wish.

The writing was great, the smexy was hawt, and I love the side characters. I hope we see more diverse characters. Can’t wait to see which alpha is next.

Once again, Anna enters the mysterious alpha world of dragons, shifters and omegas established in their sanctuary. In this one, Brandt fulfills his dream of parenthood as a miracle occurs with Beta horse shifter, Micah. All the previous characters are involved though the emphasis is on the lucky parents and their reactions. There are more surprises, joys and changes provided and fatherhood changes Brandt into a mellow but protective parent to compliment chill Micah. Another enjoyable adventure to be savored.

I loved the other two books in this series, and was looking forward to reading this one. While technically a standalone, I think it's best enjoyed in order. I enjoyed this book quite a bit. A character makes a questionable decision, but it is ultimately handled well. After all, if characters always made the right decision, we'd never have anything interesting to read. I think it's about how things are handled by the author, and I was satisfied with things here. The book was interesting and I liked the continued world building. Overall, I'd recommend this book and the series.

Great Addition to the Shifters Sanctuary Universe

I think this was a great addition to the series! I will say I think a lot of their story felt like it was told to push the overall narrative along to a further point, but I’m glad this couple and the trials and tribulations they experienced got their own book. Micah and Brant are too sweet as a couple and I wish we could’ve seen more of their smaller interactions and personality quirks.

(I am a little bummed we didn’t get the FF Bunny shifter story that is mentioned in passing quite often in this book though…)

Loved this audio!!! Love this series!!!

Zachary Zaba did a fantastic job with the narration. It sounded like there was at least two people narrating this book instead of one, which I love.

This is book 3 in the Shifters Sanctuary series by Anna Sparrows, I've been reading or listening to everything I can find by this author because the books are always so enjoyable. Sweet with heat.

If you want to know more about what happens in the book you can read the book blurb, I just dropped in to say how much I enjoyed the narration and the story!

Brandt & Micah
This is really an interesting Omegaverse that Anna created around the Shifter's Sanctuary. I love the complexity of the characters, and the variety of shifters that are explored. I loved the idea of this story as soon as it was generally mentioned at the end of book 2, His Prodigal Alpha. Brandt and his family are in such a unique and difficult position because of the scarcity of dragons and their abilities to reproduce. The sciences that are discovered in this story are an intriguing idea to explore, even if our world has nothing similar to compare.

I loved the instant connection between Brandt & Micah once Brandt actually allowed himself to be in the same location as Micah. I really appreciated the easy understanding that Micah allowed with the decisions Brandt had made up to their meeting point. It could so easily have been a negative experience and I love that it wasn't so here.

Without saying too much, it seemed to me that the bulk of this story was a big, happier build-up (very low angst) to what I'm sure will be a far more complex and dangerous next book in the series with the continuation of the dragons' story/ies.

I loved His Unicorn Alpha and the continued Shifters Sanctuary series. It's a fun universe to step into, and I hope we have many more couples(+) to follow in the future.

This third book in the series had more emphasis on detailed scientific methods involved in the search for and
understanding about alphas, and shifters in this very interesting and involved mpreg world.
In the personal lives of the main characters, their were many surprises that unfolded.
I always enjoy the skilled way Anna Sparrows realistically portrays the emotions, and internal and external
dialogues of the characters.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
