પુત્રના લક્ષણ પારણામાં જ દેખાઈ જાય છે, એવા જ હતા નરેન્દ્ર. ખરેખર અનોખો જન્મ હતા તેઓ. આ કહેવત ક્રાંતિકારી વિચારક સ્વામી વિવેકાનંદના જીવન પર પૂર્ણરૃપથી ખરી ઉતરે છે. સ્વામી વિવેકાનંદના પિતા પોતાના પુત્રને અંગ્રેજી ભણાવીને મોટો અધિકારી બનાવવા ઇચ્છતા હતા, પરંતુ જન્મથી જ નરેન્દ્રની અંદર પરમ સત્યને મેળવવાની લાલસા પ્રબળ હતી. એમના ગુરુ રામકૃષ્ણ પરમહંસે એમને આધ્યાત્મિકતાનું અમૃત પાન કરાવીને એમની આ તરસને શાંત કરી. એમણે શિકાગોમાં વિશ્વ ધર્મ પરિષદમાં ભારતનું પ્રતિનિધિત્વ કરીને જ્યારે પોતાના વિચારોથી લોકોને અવગત કરાવ્યા, તો આખું વિશ્વ ચકિત થઈ ઊઠ્યું અને લાખો લોકો એમના અનુયાયી થઈ ગયા. એમણે કેટલાય વર્ષો સુધી ભારતીય તત્વજ્ઞાનની અદ્ભુત જ્યોતિ પ્રગટાવી અને વિદેશીઓના હૃદયથી ભ્રમનું અંધારું દૂર કરીને જન કલ્યાણ કર્યું અને લોપ થઇ રહેલા ધર્મ તેમજ અધ્યાત્મમાં નવપ્રાણોનો શંખનાદ કરીને વિશ્વને ભ્રમિત થવાથી બચાવી લીધું. પ્રખ્યાત કથા-શિલ્પી નરેન્દ્ર કોહલીની કલમથી નિકળેલી સ્વામી વિવેકાનંદની અનોખી જીવનગાથા છે 'પૂત અનોખો જન્મ્યો', જે દરેક માટે પઠનીય જ નહીં, સંગ્રહણીય પણ છે.

डॉ॰ नरेन्द्र कोहली (जन्म ६ जनवरी १९४०, निधन १७ अप्रैल २०२१, चैत्र शुक्ल पंचमी, नवरात्रि) प्रसिद्ध हिन्दी साहित्यकार हैं। उन्होंने साहित्य के सभी प्रमुख विधाओं (यथा उपन्यास, व्यंग्य, नाटक, कहानी) एवं गौण विधाओं (यथा संस्मरण, निबंध, पत्र आदि) और आलोचनात्मक साहित्य में अपनी लेखनी चलाई है। उन्होंने शताधिक श्रेष्ठ ग्रंथों का सृजन किया है। हिन्दी साहित्य में 'महाकाव्यात्मक उपन्यास' की विधा को प्रारंभ करने का श्रेय नरेंद्र कोहली को ही जाता है। पौराणिक एवं ऐतिहासिक चरित्रों की गुत्थियों को सुलझाते हुए उनके माध्यम से आधुनिक सामाज की समस्याओं एवं उनके समाधान को समाज के समक्ष प्रस्तुत करना कोहली की अन्यतम विशेषता है। कोहलीजी सांस्कृतिक राष्ट्रवादी साहित्यकार हैं, जिन्होंने अपनी रचनाओं के माध्यम से भारतीय जीवन-शैली एवं दर्शन का सम्यक् परिचय करवाया है। जनवरी, २०१७ में उन्हें पद्मश्री से सम्मानित किया गया।

Covering life of Swami from his adolescence to few years before his death, this book is a must read for youth or those interested in discovering the supreme. Great work from Kohli, if you read first few pages I bet you will try finish it as early as possible.

This book not only covers the transition of Narendra Nath Datta into Swami Vivekananda, but also picturizes the contemporary Indian society from Bengal to Rajputana, and from Haridwar to Kanyakumari. I had heard various stories about Swami Vivekananda at different times during my childhood, but this book provides a more detailed context and fills in the missing gaps. The ending was quite abrupt and so I am really looking forward to reading Todo Kara Todo, which is a more complete work on the life of Swami.

Narendra Kohli is master of telling historic and mythological tales in a very interesting and engaging way. I had always wanted to knee more about Swami Vivekananda but could never work my way through biographies of him penned by various other authors. Narendra Kohli's novel is a very artistically done blockbuster movie version of a documentary like biography.
