I was giving this book in exchange for an honest review.
Unfinished Business-
What a fantastic read! I couldn't put it down! I had to keep reading just to see what twist life was going throw out at Angela next!
The book starts with the death of Angela's terminally ill mother...But is soon lifted by her mom coming to visit her from the other side....I love how well developed and strong the character's are-especially Angela's witty Italian mother, the images of her vibrant personality show through even in death. The characters and the story itself make it so easy to be right there with Angela throughout her story!
Her mother, in true Italian mother form, and who is far from ready to be dead comes back to help Angela with some unexpected experiences. Not only does she guide her through adjusting through her death, but also through the adjustment of discovering her unusual "Gift", as well as navigating through murky waters with her not so easy teenage daughter. As a mother of a teenager and a preteen, I laughed through many of the mom experiences. I love how down to earth and easy to relate Angela is! She is a witty, fast on her feet mom, who handles both her kids and her husband much like I do! It was like this book was written off of my own parenting whoa's! Carolyn really allows you to see the dynamic's between a mother and her teenage daughter. While reading one conversation between the Angela and her daughter I shared it with my husband, because it truly sounded just like myself with my own daughter!
This book was also an eye opener about the bizarre things teens involve themselves in and after reading it, I actually had to read up on the subject of these pill parties. It is frightening to read how many of them fall for peer pressure and enlightening to read that good parenting can really help in scary situations like that. My heart broke for Em at the tragic loss she suffered due to the poor choice of her friend, and I cried for Taylor when she lost her life....The grief shared in the book by her parent's was portrayed so read that I hurt for them.
Angela's relationship with her best friend was also very fun, every girl needs a friend like Mel to get through the good and bad in their life. Through out the book I found myself crying and laughing, two signs that I am loving what I am reading! All in all this book gets my vote! I love it and hope to see a second one written!
Unbreakable Bonds
Angela and her strong willed and sharp tongue ghost mother Fran are a hilarious mother/daughter duo that it is near impossible not to smile at throughout all their conversations and arguments. Fran and Angela both give as good as they take! This time around she has lost the ability to see her mother, and for the beginning of the story she can’t even hear her…much to Angela’s distress. Of course Fran doesn't handle that too well herself, and leaves fun messages for her daughter-often frightening her. Fran does come back in time to help out Angela and her best friend Mel catch Mel’s husband lying and cheating, not to mention nose into some of the teenager daughter drama. Angela’s relationship with both her kids and her husband are very endearing to me, as I have kids the same age and the book closely mimics my relationship with not only my husband, but my kids too. My son is my happy place and more often than not my daughter thinks I am the meanest mom around. It lightens my heart to read about the mom/daughter stuff as it makes me feel not so alone in the battle of wills between mom and daughter. I have been looking forward to book two in the Angela story ever since the finishing the first book. I love how well the author develops not only her characters, but her relationship between the characters. And there is always an adventure when Angela and my ghostly mother are involved. I highly recommend this story to you, and if you have yet to read the first in the series, start there! And please prepare to crave a few cupcakes during your journey!
Fantastic collection! Really the best way to read such an amazing set of books, no waiting for the next one! Although now I am anxiously waiting for book 3. A wonderful, funny, touching, and believable story about a woman who gains the gift to see spirits after her mother dies. In the first book she try's to come to terms with her new "gift" and the loss of her mother in the physical, but the blessing of still having her there with her. Plus seeing other spirits and helping them with certain business so they can move on. And in book 2, after a blow to her gift she finally realizes is in fact a beautiful gift, she has to fight and work her way towards repairing and learning to appreciate what she has in fact been blessed with. And in both books, while dealing with all of that, she has a teenage daughter that is putting her mothering skills to the ultimate test! Something all of us mothers of teenagers can relate to. These are both so beautifully and well written! A believable version of a "ghost story" and one of the funniest books I have read in a long time, and also an emotional ride that had the tears streaming! The relationships Angela has with her mother, her husband and her best friend are great and the experiences she has with her kids and as a wife are so relate-able that you understand exactly what Angela is going through. I definitely love this set and will without a doubt, be re-reading this again. I recommend this book to everyone!
What I can I say - first if you are looking for a great paranormal, mystery, with strong female characters, download this one now! Ms. Aspenson brings us a story so real at times that I thought she was living in my head!
Angela Panther is a normal every day Mom, dealing with normal everyday crap! Her Mom dies from cancer and she comes back to see her. Turns out Angela is a psychic medium. She has a great marriage, and two children. Her son is her rock and he sees Gramma too. Her daughter is all that and a bag of chips. The drama made me happy that I have boys, but I know I did some of this stuff to my Mom, (sorry).
Fran, Angela's Mom is a hoot! She is crass and loving, and calls it like she sees it. Also, we meet and get to know Mel, Angela's best friend. She is dealing with a cheating no good husband. Fran's dealings with the cheat are priceless.
I love love loved the books! I'm glad it comes in a set and look forward to reading more of Angela's Adventures. In my head they are sort of like Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures. I laughed with them, cried with them and cheered when she didn't kill anyone.
just couldn't put the book down...cried ..laughed..and cried some more. I'm hoping I'll be seeing another story about Angela...want to know how Mel does...great characters...superb storyline....
