Denis Ledoux’s Turning Memories into Memoirs is an overview that encourages those on the edge who feel inadequate in their writing skills and breaks down the process of life story writing so it is not so overwhelming. He gives tips and advice based on his years of leading workshops that will help any new writer gather and organize information and learn how to put it all together.

“Write your stories—now!”
That’s Denis Ledoux’s advice to would-be memoir writers. In this book he walks you through his simple and clearly articulated methods that help you remember more vividly, record your stories with pizazz, and achieve a greater understanding of your personal history.
The book is based on the memoir-writing workshop he developed in 1988 called Soleil Lifestory Network. He has trained hundreds of personal historians to teach his methods in their own communities.

VERY PRACTICAL and included some very good case examples of how things can go wrong and many prompts for writing.
That being said, I would suggest Shimmering Images: A Handy Little Guide to Writing Memoir first- I think its simpler and more streamlined message makes it more likely someone will actually get moving and get something done.

Denis Ledoux's book is a chestnut, perennial, must-have classic for aspiring memoirists, one could say "The Joy of Cooking" for those wanting to write their own memoir. Back in 1994, I was a newbie in the field of helping people write their memoirs but Denis was already a seasoned pro. I've benefitted from his expertise for more than 20 years.

Borrowed it from the library, but didn't have the time to read it. Flipped through it. It seems Cliff Note-ish. Good for a beginner?
