4 - Under the spell of Wolfe Creek's ardent moon... Stars!

Lone Wolfe Protector is one of those rare books that comes along and completely takes you by surprise. I have to admit after reading the synopsis I wasn’t 100% certain as to what to expect from this story. What I got was eerie, creepy, sexy and surprising. The town of Wolfe Creek itself is like a cross between Sleepy Hollow and Forks, Washington and the people living there are just as unusual.

”Come out, come out, wherever you are.”

Wow. There was so much more to Lone Wolfe Protector than the romance aspect and it was a bewitching read filled with intrigue, mystery and twists that I never anticipated.

When Maggie Sullivan and her best friend pass through Wolfe Creek on a road trip, tragedy strikes and Maggie's life is changed forever. A year on she returns, desperate to solve the mystery of what happened to Aimee that fateful night. Koda Wolfe, Deputy Sheriff in the town of his an

Lone Wolfe Protector is the first book in the paranormal romance Wolfe Creek series from author Kaylie Newell. The series itself is centered on the disappearance of Aimee Styles and after a year of being on various forms of media begging for help, Maggie Sullivan, Aimee's best friend and the person she was with on the day she went missing, is back in Wolfe Creek to see how far the case has progressed. Y'all. The comma splices. So many comma splices.

Seriously though, between heavy-handed metaphors, 100% stereotypical characters (ex-stripper with a heart of gold, stoic and manly Native dude) and utter unlikeability of the main character, I was not super impressed.

3 stars - Great mystery and characters, but an okay read overall.

There were a couple of things that drew me into this book. The first was the title. Even though it's WOLFE and not WOLF, I still went into it thinking without that extra E. And since I'd taken this book to be a paranormal, I was thinking shifters. Shifters are my favorite supernatural creatures, so that would have been perfect! Then there was the fact that Koda is a deputy and sounds pretty protective. Those two things alone pushed

So I've kind of read this series out of order, started off with two and three then finished off with book one. But regardless of the order I read them in this series has quickly become a favorite of mine. It's so hard to find paranormal romances that aren't cheesy or repetitive or a number of other complaints I could put out there. The Wolfe Creek series, though, felt really fresh and unique, it was intense and had

Thanks to NetGalley, I was given this ARC with the promise of my honest review, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this book. The book was a little less paranormal and a lot more suspenseful than I anticipated, but I found I didn’t mind that so much, minus my sudden need to lock all my doors and draw the curtains closed for fear that a serial killer was going to slip through the window. As far as werewolves go, don’t read this expecting a vivid tale on that moonbound pooch. Hopef ...more

Ok I got this thinking it would be a paranormal romance but it's much more than that! It's a mystery that is skilfully laid out like a trail of breadcrumbs for the reader to follow. There's a definite creepy vibe to this story but it's played out beautifully. I love that the author ( who is new to me) surprised me with a storyline that pulls the reader in whilst slowly dripping information along the way. This is clearly marked as the first in the Wolfe Creek series and I for one will be keen to ...more

*Swoon*. Yep, that about sums it up. Along with the mystery. This was a phenomenal book from Kaylie Newell and I am stoked to read the coming Wolfe Creek novels.
So the characters are very well-written, with each having good motives and realistic reactions. I especially like the interactions between Maggie and the townspeople, since not many of them liked her much.
Having such an intriguing mystery cannot be easy. This book started with Maggie missing her best friend, Aimee, who had literally

This wasn’t exactly what I thought it would be. I was expecting there to be a paranormal, supernatural element to it. There was a little bit, but it wasn’t really explained that well. I am guessing that the author is saving that for a second book. Not totally sure there. Since I was expecting so much more of a paranormal element to it I was disappointed reading it.

The main character was a little annoying. It was like she was trying to target herself the entire book. I understand that she was pr

Maggie Sullivan is headed to the small mountain town of Wolfe Creek to find out what happened when her best friend vanished one year ago. Everyone in the town seems to be close-lipped about the disappearance, but no one more so than deputy sheriff Koda Wolfe. With the help of the reluctant deputy, Maggie sets out to get answers, one way or another. But there's a nefarious force lurking in the woods, watching Maggie's every move.

This is the first time I am reading this author who also has a yummy cover to grace this novel. This was also a excellent mystery that had me hooked from the beginning that gave me a story line that enabled me to really sink my teeth into it. She goes back to the secluded town but not everyone is so welcoming in her doing just that. the sheriff deputy Koda is the one who reluctantly aids ...more

When I first read the synopsis I was like "Hell ya, a sexy werewolf deputy!" but that isn't what I got. This wasn't the fun sexy read I thought it would be. Instead, it was more of a romantic suspense.

Maggie's best friend disappeared into the nothingness that surrounds Wolfe Creek and a year later she's determined to finally find out what happened to her. The only problem is that when it comes to small to

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was not your typical paranormal romance. The paranormals in the book are very much hidden and/or secret, which made this definitely more of a mystery romance than a paranormal one. That being said, the story was still engaging and had me guessing until the very end.

Maggie is on a mission to figure out what happened to her best friend, Aimee. They were on a road trip a year ago when they stopped in Wolfe Creek to use a rest room

This was a great story. Maggie Sullivan goes back to find her missing, presumed dead friend Aimee. When she goes back to Wolfe Creek, she thinks she will finally get the answers plaguing her or end up die trying--literally.

There she meets sheriff deputy Koda Wolfe, who is also her landlady's nephew. At first he is very cool toward her and there is some hostility toward her. He thinks she is going to hurt his aunt and the town he

If you like an element of suspense...

I like to call myself Covet's biggest fan. Since the imprint launched I have read them all. But LONE WOLFE PROTECTOR is the first one that had me head-scratching whether it really belonged under the imprint. Romantic suspense is so not my genre but I do enjoy a good mystery element which LWP really delivers on. I honestly can't elaborate on what ultimately made me decide it wasn't well suited to the imprint without spoiling the story but if you're not usually

I haven't read a paranormal story in so long. I'm so happy LONE WOLFE PROTECTOR was way back into them. I love paranormal stories that are brought to life by legends that have been told over many generations. The mystery and intrigue of them sets the pace for the story. I definitely didn't want to put it down because I needed to know what was coming next.
Kaylie Newell did a great job of having the reader ping pong between theories of "who done it" and who was on the side of good and who wasn't.

From the moment I began reading this story, I was inexorably drawn further and further into the dark mystery of Wolfe Creek, Oregon. There is a disappearance that is largely unexplained for most of the book, and an indomitable heroine – Maggie -- who won’t give up until she finds her friend. And there are the deliciously dangerous Wolfe brothers, Koda and Zane. Even the town’s secondary characters are finely drawn, and Wolfe Creek itself, misty and remote, is the creepiest character of all.

As the story approached its ending I found an overwhelming feeling of peace, home, and belonging.
Let me backtrack. Maggie goes back to Wolf Creek after a year of feeling lost and empty over the disappearance of her best friend Ammie. The overwhelming need to find closure has her back here where it all began. She makes one friend, Candi who provides the necessary warning along with introducing her to Kodak Wolfe, a local deputy to help in her search. It's a rocky start since he doesn't want her i
