Scream of the Silent Sun

Rate this book
Quinn Thomas' brother, Parker, has been missing for more than a decade when, as an empath, she's mysteriously drawn to a cache of his letters, hidden away in her parents' attic. His letters speak of her special power and his pride in who she is and what she can do. It's confirmation that he's never forgotten her. But where is he? And why, given the empathic abilities that used to connect them, has she felt no spark from him after all these years?

Tucked inside one of Parker's letters is a vibrant drawing of the sun. Parker is a skilled artist and the sun is his adopted symbol. Quinn is shocked when the emblem inks itself onto her arm, creating a guide that seems to be trying to tell her where her brother may be.

That's validated when Quinn visits a local tattoo artist who tells her she is a conduit to her brother. The tattoo comes alive when Parker's presence is near, but his appearances are the stuff of mirage and He is real and not real.

With their mother's cancer diagnosis creating a very real deadline, Quinn is determined to bring her brother home, but the seething sun tattoo and his flickering image seem to warn her he's in grave danger. Frustrated, Quinn finds help on her quest from Braden, Parker's best friend and lover from high school; Quinn's best friend, Candi, and one of Quinn's rehab clients, Toby. Even with their help, will she find Parker in time to save him?

I just finished reading Dianna Sinovic’s excellent paranormal novel Scream of the Silent Sun for the second time. Yes—twice! Even better on the second read. Empath and addiction counselor Quinn Thomas’ dextrous use of her psychic gifts involve her in an epic search for her missing brother Parker, an artist with his own extraordinary psychic talent. Soon she tangles with a dangerous sun-worshipping cult. But QT, as she’s called, is more. She’s a dedicated runner, a pop music aficionado, and devoted daughter dealing with her mother’s cancer and father’s hard-fisted attempt to control her. That means keep away from her brother—exactly what her heart tells her not to do.
She is fortunate to have a gallery of friends who aid her quest to solve the mystery of Parker’s disappearance and his magical artwork. If QT and Parker live! These friends, from Candi, her running partner and staunch supporter, to the recovering and lapsing drug addicts whom she strives to bring to fully functioning lives, compares happily to Fredrik Backman’s wonderful network of friends who help each other through troubling trials. High praise, justly deserved. And that’s why I reread Scream of the Silent Sun.

Dianna Sinovic's debut novel is the beginning of what I hope will be a long string of 'good reads.' Told from the point of view of an addictions counselor looking for her long lost brother, this paranormal thriller careens from one harrowing scene to the next, against the all too human backdrop of family dysfunction and loss. The other worldly details are original and believable. The dialogue is 'spot on' for accuracy of its time and place. The characters are as 'real' as people we meet every day. As someone who does not (normally) read paranormal thrillers, I have to give this one all the stars!

A Quietly Haunting Tale
"Scream of the Silent Sun" is a story of family torment, the torment of addiction, and the power of will. It's an effective -- and softly moving -- novel. The tension is real throughout, but author Dianna Sinovic doesn't pound the reader with it. Rather, you walk willingly through mysterious doors with the characters and are grateful by the end that you did.

A woman's quest to find her long lost brother escalates into a dangerous supernatural adventure in this satisfying tale of family, friendship, and fortitude. Kudos to author Dianna Sinovic on a captivating debut! I had the pleasure of reading an advanced reader copy (ARC) a few weeks before the book was released.

Scream of the Silent Sun hooked me from page one with its blend of haunting supernatural mystery and emotionally rich family drama. Sinovic’s story, which is both suspenseful and quietly moving, tackles themes of family bonds and trauma with thought-provoking depth. I was quite taken with this unique thriller. Highly recommended!

I’ve loved Dianna’s short fiction, filled with supernatural mystery, a dark edge, and thought provoking elements. Her debut novel is no different. A quest, a disturbing past, and the paranormal all blend together here in a unique thrilling adventure.

Sinovic's debut novel is an interesting glimpse into the supernatural. Quinn Thomas, affectionately called QT, is determined to find her brother, who has been missing for more than a decade.
