When Kate Davidson gets an offer to teach yoga classes at the Elysian Springs resort, she jumps at the opportunity--even if it means enduring the wedding ceremony of the center's two caretakers. But avoiding the M-word turns out to be the least of Kate's problems when a wedding guest is found floating face-down in the resort's hot tub, shortly after a loud, public fight wi

A Killer Retreat was a killer for me to get through. I finished the book but it was one of those "this just has to get better" reads. I kept reading another chapter thinking any minute now the action will start.
I felt it took too long to get to the mystery; there was no hook to make me want to keep reading. I don't need a mystery to grab me in the first chapter, but if I am more than a 1/3 of the way through the book, I should know by then what the mystery is that the main character is trying t ...more

How can I not love my second book? That's like not loving your second child. ;-) But these 5 stars go to the cover artist. I love it!

Opens: “This is bad, Michael. She’s not responding. I think she might be dead.”
My Thoughts: Last year I read, and enjoyed, the first book in the ‘Downward Dog’ series Murder strikes a Pose. So I jumped at the chance to read A KILLER RETREAT. I was not disappointed and liked this one even better! From the very first page as Kate, Michael and Bella travel to the resort I was drawn into the story. Kate may be a Yoga teacher and as such an ‘expert’ on channelling peace in and stress out, but as wit ...more

Wow. I forgot how much of an attitude Kate had. I love the series, but having the main character be so obnoxious can be a bit off-putting. The nice thing is that Kate is aware of her attitude, she just doesn't put much effort into changing it. Other than that, the mystery was very enjoyable, and I absolutely love some of the other characters.

Kate Davidson is a contradiction. She’s a yogi, which means she should be living a peaceful quiet life, without drama and anger. But Kate has an issue with relationships, a chaotic life, and a really bad temper. A Killer Retreat has Kate on a working vacation with her boyfriend Michael, her best friend Rene, Rene’s husband Sam, and of course Bella the rescued dog.

Yoga instructor and studio owner, Kate Davidson, gets a chance to work at the reopening of the Elysian Springs resort. But it is also part vacation because she only has to teach a few classes and can enjoy the lovely site as much as she wants. She is accompanied by her boyfriend, Michael, and beloved German Shepard, Bella. Also her BFF and her husband make an appearance. The highlight of the grand opening is the wedding of the two people who own the resort, Emmy and Josh. So of course Emmy's fam

I received a copy of the second Downward Dog mystery courtesy of Midnight Ink (thank you!) at a 10-year birthday celebration the publisher hosted at the 2015 Malice Domestic conference. Having read the first book in the series, I was interested to find out what would happen next for yoga instructor/amateur sleuth Kate Davidson and her German shepherd Bella. In this installment, Kate jumps at the opportunity to teach yoga at the Elysian Springs resort, even if it means attending the wedding cerem

Kate, owner of Serenity Yoga, just can’t keep her life grounded in serenity. Teaching yoga at an Orcas Island retreat sounds like a needed vacation with boyfriend Michael. Until Kate pulls a body out of a hot tub. And things really heat up when she’s accused of the murder.
The second in this seriously laugh-out-loud cozy mystery series follows Kate's madcap pursuit of romance and inner peace.

I received a copy of this book from Midnight Ink and would like to thank them for the opportunity to read and critique it.
Like some other readers, I found Kate difficult to like and sympathize with in this installment. When she makes mistake after mistake - all the while admitting that she knows she's wrong, but going to do it anyway - it wears thin very quickly. And her patronizing and thoughtless behavior towards her eligible-for-sainthood boyfriend Michael was difficult to take.

Some times it was a bit confusing who was suppose to know what while they all participate in being an amateur sleuth with secrets and suspicions. The sisters and the dog are what makes the mystery for me in simplified form. Great story line and fun characters. some with sass. I have not yet read #1, but enjoyed this book.

A Killer Retreat by Tracy Weber is the second book in A Downward Dog Mystery series and I think it is a really good book. Both books in the series are great reads.

Deep Breath In, Deep Breath Out. Now get ready for a mystery with several twists and turns and yoga positions.
Kate Davidson is a yoga instructor and in a perfect world her life would be calm and uplifting but Kate’s world is far from perfect. She has been asked to teach yoga classes Elysian Springs Resort. This means she will have to find other yoga instructors to fill in for her at her own studio but that should be easy and she will just be a phone call away. (Yeah, right :) ...more

Tracy Weber provides a page turning read with Killer Retreat, the second book in the Downward Dog Mystery series. Kate Davidson decides to take a "working" vacation on Orcas Island where she will be teaching yoga for a week at a vegan retreat center. She takes along her boyfriend Michael and of course her dog Bella. While she hopes for a relaxing time it really doesn't seem to be in the cards, and when she has a confrontation with someone who is later found dead, relaxing is the last thing she w

Tracy Weber has given us another highly entertaining cozy mystery! This is second in the Downward Dog Mystery series and I really enjoyed reading it. In this book, we get to go to a resort where Kate will be vacationing, teaching and attending a wedding.
Of course, with this being a cozy mystery you know we will have to come across a murder! Once again, the author gives us enough twists and turns that make figuring out the "who done it" part complicated. I think I changed my mind with every chapt ...more

I actually won an advance reader edition of this book. I packed it with a few other things and promply left it behind when I went out of town. I started reading it a few weeks after it was released to the public.
Tracy Weber's first book, Murder Strikes a Pose introduces us to the main character Kate. We learn she teaches yoga and acquires a dog. Oh yes * there is a murder.
This is Tracy's second book of Downward Dog Mysteries. I believe I love this book more than the first.

Kate Davidson, yoga teacher, and her GSD Bella with the delicate stomach are again featured in this amateur sleuth tale. There's fun and contrast as they head to an island health spa in scenic Puget Sound with Kate's new boyfriend. Kate is giving classes for a week, there's a wedding party and before you know it there's also a murder.

Really good. Love her writing. Tracy Weber again brings in a strong plot and outstanding cast of characters. When Kate and Michael travel to an eco-friendly island retreat as a working vacation, things naturally do not turn out quite the way they expected. Kate is on edge fearing that Michael is ready to ask the big question and she is not ready to make a commitment: in fact, she is not sure she will ever be ready, but she doesn’t want to lose him. Then there’s that thing about the cabin sleepin

Tracy Weber has done it again with her second book, A Killer Retreat. Our heroine, Kate Davidson accepts an offer to teach yoga at a health spa. But health fails big time for one nasty guest who is murdered and wouldn't you know it, fingers point to Kate. Serenity can be hard to maintain for our favorite yoga teacher as she deals with her changing relationship with her boyfriend Michael and the well being of her two best friends, beloved Bella, her German Shepherd and the feisty Rene. This is the second of her series of cozies and I've canceled my library hold request for the recently released third. This story takes place 6 months after the first. She is still with her nasty, moody boyfriend who is more yogic than the self centered, ill tempered yoga instructor. She judges as shallow anyone who likes nice restaurants and cars except her good friend who is snobby and likes nice hotels and designer clothes. The whole thing is predictable from the first chapter. Authors, like y

Kate, Michael and Bella head to Orcas Island retreat where Kate will be teaching yoga and attending a wedding.
Vacation is what this should be, but Kate pulls a body out of a hot tub and becomes the main suspect.
This book was a fun read and I love reading all the yoga descriptions for relaxing as chaos continues all around.
