Marty suffers from chronic severe anxiety and the only way to pacify himself is by chewing on things. However, Marty's compulsion soon leads him to murder and an idea that has extremely gruesome consequences.
This short story is grim, gross and not for the faint of heart!
Well, this made me awfully hungry for breakfast. Marty, our lead, is your typical person with a mental health condition that makes him have to chew things constantly. Gum? Taffy? A pillow? No, no, no... much bigger items. Items that scream when you filet them. And I am most certainly not referring to those hilarious screaming goats. But you get where this is headed. No real premise here aside from chewing on things to satisfy the urges. Really light on context and purpose, but it was still, somehow, a fun way to spend 15 minutes. I wish it leaned a little more into the splatterpunk arena, but it held back, which didn't do it any favors. Like, if you're gonna focus on the body horror and gore, make it memorable, extremely detailed and nauseating and plentiful. Not bad, not great, but fans of Jerry Blaze should still enjoy it to a point.
Marty has severe anxiety. The smallest things set him off, so he's found a way to calm himself down. He's a chomper. He chews on things to relax. Whether it be paper, his lips, anything! One day, his neighbour is being loud and an altercation happens. Marty soon takes his chomping skills to a whole new level.
This has two of my favourite things, cannibalism (level 1 cannibal) and flaying. In a short number of pages, Jerry delivered a fun read! Once Marty loses control, it's a fun ride! I can always count on Jerry for a really good time! Available on Amazon now!
This story had me disgusted but laughing at the same time. This is for sure one of my favorite short stories that I’ve read.
Chomp follows Marty. Marty is addicted to chewing on things. And whenever I say this, I mean EVERYTHING. One day things get out of hand whenever his noisy neighbor, Jessica, decides to confront him about his incessant knocking on her wall. Things escalate very quickly from here on. 👀
Marty struggles with severe anxiety and chewing helps. After an angry neighbor confronts him, he finds a new chew. A short, gross, horror novella that is cringe worthy.
Marty needs to chew on things to calm his anxiety and soon starts chewing on everything he can find with horrific consequences, another short brutal read from the very talented Jerry Blaze
Chomp! by Jerry Blaze 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This is a fun and very short horror novela. Poor Marty has a strong addition to chewing somewhat odd things. He’s had this infliction ever since his father died when Marty was still a child. His latest discovery is quite different than anything else he’s ever chewed on before. This chewing addiction helps to alleviate some of his stress and anxiety. The immediate need to release these anxious feelings, has driven Marty to do things he never thought he would do in his life. But alas he has! Even though this book is super short, the grossness factor is still high!
Thank you to Jerry Blaze for an arc of this great and entertaining fast read! It was a nice break to read this in the middle of the day!
Marty is a wholly unlikeable character, I hated him with a passion. Sure, he has horrible anxiety issues, he has to chew all the time on something to calm his nerves; he's been in the psych ward, he's lost his job, he's spiraling into madness - but his way to pull through was vile, horrid, and downright uncalled for!
Seriously, this is a Blaze short story of extreme horror, and should be read tongue-in-cheek, taken with a grain of salt, and surely nothing should be accepted at face value. Chew on all these horrible puns after you read the story, and tell me I'm wrong!
Love this idea- quick to the action, and fast paced. I always love the psych/medical conditions being a central theme, and while it isn’t made obnoxiously obvious, that’s the heart of the story. Combatting anxiety and the MCs solution for anxiety (which is a super interesting psych condition on its own!). True JBlaze style. Another 5 star read for me. (Insert generic warning about gruesome scenes and “your mental health matters”)
I received Chomp from Jerry Blaze, it's the story of a very anxious man who just needs to chew things, anything really, and he comes up with a unique 'solution' to his problem. This is a short, weird story based around anxiety and violence, which, as usual from Jerry Blaze, is fantastically done. This story isn't my favourite but it's definitely an entertaining little read worth checking out. I'd give it a 4/5
Jerry Blaze grabs you by the hand, places you in a chair, restrains you, and forces you to watch Marty not only gather his chewing material, but forces you to partake in Marty's chewing habits because he's that great at being descriptive and he will leave you wanting to go get some fruit roll-ups from the mini mart. Or maybe that's just me. Either way, happy chewing!
This shit was insane! Felt super sorry for the poor guy. This compulsion, yeah I cannot freaking imagine what it would be like. I did enjoy the gore and short story or not, this was a cool read so i recommend it. Gag worthy for sure!
This was my first book by Jerry Blaze, so, I went in, blind. It was one of the first splatterpunk books I have read, and, I wasn't disappointed! This made me an instant Jerry Blaze fan, as, it is well written, and, doesn't pull any punches. If you think you can figure out what this book is about, from the cover, it is that, and, much more. I love how this dives into the psyche of someone who suffers from something that not a lot of people are aware of, and, puts a gory, more obsessive level of it. I highly recommend this book! Only 4/5 stars, because, I wish it had been longer, though, I really enjoyed the ending!
