This book is great for only children who are preparing for an addition to their family. I would also say that this can apply for adopting families too. It is a "guide" book, and uses "you" frequently. It is interesting to children, if applicable and is age appropriate for children pre-k through 4th grades. It is informative and helpful.
The illustrations assist the story and correspond to the text. However, all of the characters in the story are white, so there is no diversity. It's pretty obvious that the setting is in America, so the diversity around cultural groups is minimal to none as well. I was disappointed with this aspect, but overall the main theme of the story is still beneficial.
