Rapunzel isn't the stereotypical Damsel in Distress. Her Bad-Boy Prince Charming is a renowned mercenary, and their Happy Ending plays out like a bad movie. However, she is determined to breakout from her tower prison-love be damned-and do it in a fabulous pair of heels. *** Gunned down by the Mercenary, the deadliest assassin in The Badass Archives, isn't exactly Rapunzel ...more

I've read this book already because I'm one of the editors. Yes, you may all hate me & make voodoo dolls in my honor.
So, okay, I just, how do I even start?
We all know the story of Rapunzel, right? Well, Sarah took that story & turned it on it's head after tatting it up & throwing in some magic.
Rapunzel? Yeah, she's the princess you wish Disney would make a movie about. She isn't some damsel in distress, she isn't cute or sweet, she isn't a princess & she sure ass hell isn't looki

First I would to mention that I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review from the LoP group.

I had a hard time getting through this book. It wasn't what I thought it would be. There was just so much of Rapunzel escaping, Flynn capturing her and bringing her back where she would be punished . For me just that it kept happening was too much. I liked Flynn , he had so many different sides to him but the fact that he really did love Rapunzel made me happy.

Wow, what can I say. This took my favorite fairytale to a new height. Feisty and confidence, not your ordinary Rapunzel I would say. And that hunk of mecenary, I was wondering is he the good guy or the bad guy......until the end of the book. Sarah J.Pepper really spin my heads, just to get my nose off this book is really difficut. The adventures and suspense really something to look forward to.If you're looking fo

I received this book for free in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Locks is written by Sarah J. Pepper and is a modern retelling of Rapunzel. In Locks, Rapunzel (or Zel) is determined to escape her tower prison but is brought back and put under watch by a Mercenary that she finds herself insanely attracted to, despite her better judgment.

I was REALLY excited about reading this book. I actually settled fo

New favourite book. Couldn't put it down. A real page turner. What can I say other than this is going to be the version of Rapunzel I tell my kids- which just to clarify are none existent at the minute and will probably be more than a little way away. I have honestly loved every minute of reading this book with its interesting plot twists, turns, backflips and somersaults.

the story was an alternate version of Rapunzel. but instead of a Damsel that needed rescue, this version of Rapunzel was every bit as feisty as it could get. she spoke her mind, was sarcastic and a true fighter despite her poor battle skill. she was held captive by Taryn, her mother who yearned for her Theurgist power. with her around, Taryn was able to remained youthful and could freely manipulate her time controlling power. It took me a while to actually get into this story, probably because it felt like the beginning of this book was a recap of a previous story, but it's really not (or maybe it is and I just couldn't find any other book with these characters in it). The way some characters were brought into the book seemed like the reader should already know who each person is, and though a bit of information was given on the characters, I found it hard to actually visua

Oooh! Watch out book world. This one is frackin' awesome!

Who likes fairy tale retellings? You? What about you? Me... Well, I used to think that I wouldn't be able to get into a fairy tale retelling. I've read a few really good ones in the last few years but never thought "Ohhh, a fairy tale retelling! Let me pick that book up!" You know? When I heard Sarah Pepper was going to be writing a Rapunzel spin, I was so excited. I mean, c'mon, have you read her spin on Alice?!?! If you haven't, you MUS

I was one of the lucky ones to get this awesome book as an arc, and I do mean awesome! First off I LOVE FAIRYTALES. So let me also say that when someone tries to retell a classic fairytale story, I am a critic. Just for the fact that I love them so much. Locks is the retelling of Rapunzel. The author did an amazing job in the way she made a usually defenseless damsel in distress needing saving, become something different although the tatted up Flynn was still there. You didn't know where his tru ...more

This is a very well written story the author did an excellent job of creating a world that the readers falls into. This is a completely fresh and unique take on the story of Rapunzel.Rapunzel isn't your ordinary damsel in distress and her prince charming isn't all that charming .I loved that Rapunzel was strong and sarcastic it made her character so much more interesting and relate-able definitely the kind of girl I'd w ...more

This was a great re-telling of the fairy tale Rapunzel. Rapunzel (Zel) has been locked away in a tower by the evil Taryn, who uses Zel's healing hair to keep her young and beautiful. The mercenary, Flynn, is sent to keep Rapunzel locked in that tower and make sure she doesn't escape again. I thought the story line was very unique and intriguing. I was on the edge of my seat until the end of the book and I was always trying to guess who was on Zel's side. Rapunzel was a feisty lead. No matter how ...more

This book is bloody fantastic. It is essentially a modern retelling of the Fairy tale Rapunzel. Rapunzel is held captive by her evil Godmother Taryn. But instead of the demure damsel in distress, she is a sarcastic feisty character (despite her terrible battle skills). Her Prince Charming is Flynn, a renowned Mercenary. Wow I finished this last night i was a bit apprehensive about reading this book to start with as my normal genre is young adult, middle grade type fantasy. I rarely venture into new adult. I have to say i was delightfully surprised with Locks. Sarah J. Pepper does a great job of mixing fantasy, love, danger and excitement into a delightful tale that keeps you guessing from one leap to another. I thought the dash of adult love situations where balanced nicely with the story line. I highly recomme ...more

The Story

We've all read fairy tales. Yes, even the burly men who act like they don't enjoy it when their child watches Frozen or Little Mermaid, has a soft spot for those cute childhood stories.

What happened to the fairy tales when we become adults? Surely, after seeing the world for what it is, having letdowns, breakups and bad days, we are the ones who could really use a moment to have that fuzzy, warm feeling and a small hope that there is a fantasy world out there?

Enter Sarah J. Pepper.

When I first saw this cover, I really wanted to read it! Rapunzel looked so bad-ass up in her tower with the tattoos covering her forearms and the locks around her wrist--not to mention, the hair looks pretty awesome as well! I love fairy tales and what is better for me is that the author specializes in twisted fairy tales. So, this book begins with Rapunzel being chased down by an assassin that was sent by an evil sorceress to bring her back to her high tower. She had previously escaped and was ...more

Rapunzel, ‘Zel’, has escaped from her tower, and is trying to put as much distance from it as possible behind her! Unfortunately, The Mistress of Time, who has imprisoned her for as long as she can remember, has sent The Mercenary after her.

Flynn catches Zel in an alley, and almost kills her. Thanks to her ability to regenerate, Zel f

This book has been one of my most anticipated releases of 2014 and you always run the risk of a book falling flat when you put too many expectations on it but after months of waiting, when I finally read Locks, it was everything I hoped it would be.

Locks: Rapunzel Unhinged is your dark and twisted take on the original story of Rapunzel and although it sticks with some of the main themes of the story, don’t let it fool you for this version definitely isn’t for kids! Rapunzel is trapped in her tow

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book but I was intrigued by the fairytale aspect. I have a thing for fairytales and I don't really care if they're way off from the original, as long as they're good. This version of Rapunzel blew me away. It was so on target as far as the original Rapunzel we all know but, at the same time, so different, in so many ways. It's as though the original author glossed over all of the details and just told all of the major plot points, leaving out all ...more

I reveiced this book in exchange for an honest review.(Lovers of Paranormal)

As you might have guessed Locks is a retelling of the popular story Rapunzel.
I have to admit I remained skeptic throughout the whole story. First thing is The Mercenary's name: Flynn. Where did we hear that name before? It's used in Disney's "Tangled" and at first the stories seemed kind of similar. In addition Flynn's real name is never revealed. At least I guess he has a real name, since Rapunzel thinks something like

I was lucky enough to be chosen by Sarah J Pepper as one of the Beta readers for Locks and even in its early stages I was blown away by the story! So much so that I emailed the author while reading to tell her how the book had me laughing, crying and stamping my feet, all in equal measure!
Locks is a revised version of Rapunzel, but unlike other fractured fairytales I have read (my favourite genre!), Sarah J Pepper has retained the fantastical setting, rather than moving the characters to a conte

Locks is a retelling of the story of Rapunzel. However, this story is anything but tame. It is jacked up with darkness, magic, betrayal, and love. This is definitely not a Disney movie!

Rapunzel (Zel) is locked away in the Spire tower by the Master of Time sorceress, Taryn. Only when Tayrn needs a hit of Zel's healing magic does she visit her. She is tired of being locked up, so she escapes the tower, only to be caught by the Mercenary, also known as Flynn. Flynn works for Taryn, or so

LOCKS: Rapunzel Unhinged. I'd say! This girl is no sweet damsel in distress waiting for prince charming to climb up the tower and save her. No, she is one badass broad who is going to save herself. And as much as she doesn't believe she can save anyone but, she finds out soon enough that she isn't only working to free herself, but an entire group of people who are under the queen's rule.

One thing I absolutely love about this book is that there wasn't a gigantic struggle of passionate love betwe

Locks by Sarah J Pepper tells the story of Rapunzel, a young woman who is trapped in a tower by an evil queen for her beautiful hair. This is where the story of Rapunzel begins to change. Rapunzel was sold to the powerful sorcerous Taryn by her parents and trapped in a tower for her continued defiance of Taryn. She refuses to be cowed or used and is punished for her disobedience.
