Josie Way loves her life in Wilfred, Oregon, and her job as its librarian, or she did until she discovered a very unpleasant relative and strange things began to happen. A practicing witch, who gets her powers from the thousands of books she is custodian of, her partner, local sheriff Sam Wilfred, has been silent since she shared her secret, her best friend’s boyfriend has vanished, and a newcomer to the area is stirring up trouble with the library’s patrons and threatening to have some of the children's books banned! Most worrying, however, is the loss of her magic! Now patchy at best, she feels alone and adrift in the non magical world she thought she’d left behind. Her only hope is to find and confront her previously unknown great aunt who, hiding behind her own magical abilities, has the ultimate revenge in her sights.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, Kensington Publishing, Kensington Cozies, but the opinions expressed are my own. When a favourite series has been building to a crescendo, it can be a bit of a letdown. Not this time! I loved it, read it in two sittings, and have hopes the series will continue. Josie and Sam are great, and Rodney, Josie's familiar, steals most of his scenes! The solutions were satisfying in the extreme, and I'd love to award more than 5 stars. Recommended.
