Sugar Baby

Rate this book
Her mother named her Sugar Baby James because of the strong sweet tooth she had while pregnant. Sugar Baby inherited her mother’s sweet tooth, and along with it, a desire for her own bakery. Unfortunately, she’s not in the right environment for her dream to come to fruition . . . until she meets the living urban legend Cassius Clay Williams.

Named after the boxing great, Cassius AKA Cash is a punisher. He’s feared, revered, and unparalleled. Watching his mother struggle financially after his father died sent him into the streets and manhood far earlier than it should have. That lifestyle hardened him, and there was nothing soft about Cash . . . until he met Sugar Baby.

When Sugar Baby’s cousin gets into trouble and takes something that belongs to Cash, she’s determined to do whatever it takes to save his life. What she wasn’t expecting was for both her heart and life to be put on the line in the process.

Sugar Baby was sweet

Once again, I was not expecting to enjoy a gangster find true love. And to think his match was a pint sized cutie named Sugar Baby. And she was a tiger about her nephew. Sugar melted Cash's heart like a chocolate fountain. I enjoyed this story.

LOVED IT

This was a nice read. Cash and Sugar Baby met in an unexpected way, and the attraction was undeniable. Although Cash appears to be the man not to mess with, he does have a good side. I like how Cash was willing to help Tyreek stay out of trouble, which brings him and Sugar closer because she would do anything to protect Tyreek. Tyreek and Sugar's journey to love was beautiful and in their own timing. Great ending for these two.

It was quick read.

I almost DNF but I stayed because it was a short story.

Honestly nothing to rave about.

At one point the writing got lazy in my opinion with all the fast forwarding going on.

Sugar Baby was so Sweet

This was such a sweet story. I loved the characters from the moment they were introduced. Definitely not what or how I thought the story would play out but I am not mad at all.

Review: Sugar Baby by B. Love

This was an okay read for me. There were moments when I really connected with the story and the characters, and I thought the passion between them was engaging and fun to read. But there were also times when I just couldn’t relate — some parts felt off or confusing to me.

For example, the scene where they have sex even though they’re not married, and then he starts talking about God right after? That threw me off. He kills people, does all kinds of shady stuff, but still claims to be deeply spiritual. I just couldn’t reconcile those things. That level of contradiction felt hypocritical and unrealistic, and honestly, it turned me off a bit.

Outside of that, though, the book was entertaining. It didn’t click with me on an intellectual level, but I can’t deny it had its moments. I really disliked the cousin — he’s eighteen, constantly messy, and everyone keeps gentle-parenting him like he’s still a child. I get that he’s been through a lot, but it felt like he was being coddled. I’m glad he didn’t end up dead (because honestly, it was looking that way at some point), but still.

As for Cash, I wish the retaliation plot had been more believable. The fact that the MMC killed four men and no one really came for him? In a world as gritty and violent as the one described here, that didn’t make much sense. It made the ending feel a bit too easy and neat for the kind of story being told.

Overall, the male lead had potential — he was cool, layered, and interesting at times — but the inconsistencies in his character and the story kept pulling me out of it. Still, if you’re into B. Love’s brand of romance with a street edge and a faith twist, this might still be your thing.

When I say I couldn’t put this book down!!! Such a good read. You have a cousin mother trying to the right the wrongs of a cousin who is just bored and allowing those around him to get him off track. Lil homie bites off more than he can chew, and his cousin is not standing for it only to find out she is up against a giant in the streets that can end them quick fast and in a hurry. Cash was more than what you seen no one dared to mess with him but he really was a good guy. To know that this little pintsized women had his nose open from their 1st encounter.

The way Cash made it to where Sug couldn’t not deal with him should have been the tall tell. The way both of them opened up and Cash was in a way telling Sug she was his and he needed her to open back up With God was swoon worthier even if it was to be selfish. Sug was trying to be there for everyone and pay back everyone and keep things afloat. I loved the cousins relationship and how she was the bridge between them and her aunt and uncle. On top of that she was true to Cash and let him know what was up. I loved how he made it his mission to help out the little cousin and made arrangements for the whole family.

Prayer Changes

The character visuals!!!…They both fine fine!!!…
This book had me in the store crying of that encouragement scene for prayer and God’s Grace with Sugar Baby and Cash!!!…
I said the same thing 4 years ago when my mother passed!!!…Although I was praying and she was praying, I had to accept that God answered her prayers and she is no longer in pain!!!…
This book touched on some deep topics and showed what healthy relationships look like!!!…
The love and trust btwn Sugar Baby and Tyreek was beautiful!!!…I love how Sugar made the decision to let her aunt and uncle know what was going on and they didn’t flip out, loved on her for protection of Tyreek, but keep them in the loop if it’s detrimental to his safety!!!…
I love the way Sugar and Cash loved on each other and trusted where they were destined to be and go!!!…

Sugar Baby

I loved me some Sugar Baby and Cash. These two were so cute together. They were intentional and considerate with each other and loved each other unconditionally. Cash was giving book bae for sure from the way he was described to look to his relationship with God to his relationship with his mama to his outreach in the community despite his drug business. This man played no games about his money or his lady.

I loved this story from beginning to end and it reminded me of earlier B. Love stories that made me fall in love with her writing and still wanting to read her books even when there were some recently that I didn’t care for. I’m glad I didn’t stop giving her writing a chance because I would have missed this story.

This was such a good read and I would highly recommend.

Black Love At It's Finest!!

If it wasn't for Tyreek borrowing product and selling some, Sugar wouldn't have met Cash. All she was trying to do pay back what he owed. Cash told her if catered his party, he would clear Tyreek debt. For Cash to be a ruthless thug/supplier he has a soft spot for both but , he didn't want Sugar to think bad of him. She even talks to God more at his encouraging, because he all ready has a relationship with God. He kept his promise to Tyreek. Her whole family loves him. They balanced each other out. I love the way she celebrated him when he turned over his empire to Rhakeem. I love love the friendship/ sisterhood she has with Rittany. Her biggest surprise was telling him that she is pregnant but he kind of it out when she wasn't drinking. What she didn't expect from him to shed some tears.

♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

I loved this so much! The progression of this story was perfect, it wasn’t too short or too long. Suge was a strong, loving and protective FMC. Cash is literally just everything, I was blushing and kicking my feet like he was talking to me. I hope his brother, Rakheem gets his own book too cause I want to know so much more about him!! The way that Cash moved through this book was the epitome of a strong, intelligent black man 😍😍 and his energy just made it easy for the relationship to fall into place. The talks about his faith were so well done! This story from beginning to end was amazing, Tyreek did make me want to smack him a couple times though.

I loved it

Sugar Baby meets Cassius when she finds out her little cousin is involved in nefarious dealings. Cash lets her know that her cousin is in deeper than she thought. He proposes that she pays the debt to him by doing a catering job. Cash is I intrigued by Sugar but he doesn’t want to cross any lines until the business aspect of their relationship is done. Despite Cash’s business, he’s a good dude. He takes care of Sugar and her cousin. He loves on Sugar and earns her love. I absolutely loved their love story and I loved that Cash was deep and multifaceted. Fantastic book!!

Sugar Baby

Thank you for sharing an unconventional love story with out all the baby mama, cheating, and stupid drama! This story just felt right from beginning to end. It kept you on your toes with the “hood justice” but then softened it out with biblical references.

I loved how Sugar was okay with allowing her feelings to be and move with them instead of against. And where are the God fearing men who happened to be Hood royalty? Cassius was an amazing man. I tuned to his feelings, loved and treated his mother with respect, all while staying connected to the source!

Loved this book!

Loved this story as I can't wait to read more on these characters! Cassius and Sugar were meant to be together! Cassius may have earned his wealth in a manner that's not conducive to others, but he was committed to taking care of Mama, honoring his dad and taking care of the community to ensure no one goes hungry! Sugar hd to deal with loss early on, but she strives to make something of herself and to support her family at all cost!
I love how Cassius was able to bring Sugar back to the spiritual and praying side. He was a man of faith and wanted that for Sugar!
I know there's more to come, especially with their family and friends!

Sugar Baby by B. Love really shines when it comes to the characters. The main character isn’t perfect, and that’s exactly what makes her relatable. You see her navigating survival, desire, and self-worth all at once, often having to make choices that don’t come with clear right or wrong answers. Watching her growth and sometimes her missteps made the story feel real and emotionally grounded.

The male lead is layered in a way I appreciated. He isn’t just a provider or a fantasy figure; he’s complicated, guarded, and carrying his own motivations that slowly unfold. Their dynamic is intense, sometimes tender, sometimes frustrating, and always engaging. You can feel the push and pull, the power balance shifting, and the emotional tension building as their relationship develops.

What I loved most is how B. Love shows the human side of both characters the vulnerability behind the confidence and the emotions beneath the surface-level arrangement. Their interactions are where the story truly comes alive, and they kept me fully invested from beginning to end.

This book does an amazing job of making you care about the characters without giving everything away, and that alone makes it a standout 5-star read for me.

Really fun read!

I loved Cash for Sugar Baby (cute names by the way🙂). This was a quick, sweet love story that I think all will enjoy!

Now...I was so very surprised to read the "p.s." portion of your preface. It's shocking to me that people are complaining about the way you have chosen to format parts of your creative work. I love the addition of pictures of the characters, especially at the end. I like to see if my visual matches yours. I'm about 50/50 right now.😆 Keep on adding them. They're a fun addition to the books!

Cute story but the plot and structure needs work

The story is written in a “paint by numbers” style, like an intro to creative writing. There’s potential but the structure is juvenile. It’s a bit lackluster and the characters aren’t fully developed. The storyline was interesting enough to finish, but not something I would recommend. I also don’t care for the performative nature in which religion is thrown into the books. Sugar was annoying at times and Cash, the Holy Hood reluctant kingpin, was a bit too weak and compromising. Overall there were some elements missing.

One of the things that I appreciated most about Cassius and Sugar Baby’s love story was they didn’t have to deal with any deranged, delusional women that Cash used to have relations with. The story just flowed with them and the supporting characters. I also like the fact that Cash dated Suge with the intention that she was going to be his wife and they were going to start a family. Cash didn’t just upgrade Suge but he upgraded her whole family as well in a major way. That’s what love is and does.

Great Read

I liked the book! Everything was on point…
I love that Sugar baby was already successful, yes he did a little upgrading but her life was already put together. She is so passionate about her career, her family and her love Cash. My only thing was that I wish the visuals was at the beginning of the book😕, from reading the book it seems like Cash was this big husky mean ass thug dude like d-Bo 🤣 and with Sugar I went off of the cover and description. Other than that I was a good read.

Very good read!

Sugar and Cash had no dealings and came from 2 different backgrounds until Tyreek her cousin got into something he couldn't get out of. Now she's indebted to Cash but he quickly develops feelings for her and they begin a relationship. Something happens to almost destroy their union but in the end love won. I was really impressed how even though Cash was into a lot of mischief, he never forgot God and actually was able to get Sugar to turn back to Him. Great novel B. Love!!!

Calm Romance

This is one of the smoothest, loving, low drama “thug” books I ever read and I loved it! Right off the bat Cassius “Cash” is the man. He’s of strong character, soft to those deserving, yet don’t let anyone play with what is his. Sugar Baby is a feisty, kind, loving niece and cousin to her family who loved and raised her. It takes her little cousin getting into trouble for her to meet her future. A man who teaches her about love and who learns to love. What a sweet and wonderful story!

I really love the affection, love and care that literally puts a smile on my face when reading. The commitment Cassius shows to Sugar Baby is so admirable and beautiful. He tries everyway possible to prove his love to her everyday. He is intentional with his actions and totally focused on winning her heart. He is supportive of her dreams....truly a character i would love to meet in real life.

I am not really a fan of the violence that took place, especially her turning a blind eye to it....yikes.

But overall worth the read!

Love a good Hood Romance

This book was so good. Love the way faith was woven into this. How good can come through something negative when we least expect it because it’s all in Gods plan. Sugar Baby’s ability to be her authentic feminine self with Cash is something I believe all women want. And Cash’s surety of what he wanted in life with God as the foundation is everything. His confidence and ability to take charge while living in baby?…chefs kiss. Loved this read and I think you will too.

My girl stayed ready with her yellow friend

Aw man Tyreek was stressing me out. But glad his story went the way it did 🙂.
Sugar Baby and Cash together is so dang adorable and hood 😂. I love that he is so firm in his faith and was able to be a steward for her.
Aunt Terry and uncle Tony I just love how they stepped in for Baby and the love they have for the family even while they had their own problems. Their family dynamic was loving.
I loved how Sugar prayed and asked for a sign…and she received it by the way of her man her man her man 🥰.

Families keeper

Talk about holding your family down. Sugar little self did not play when it came to her little cousin/brother. Upping metal on two big goons knowing her fate could have been sealed. I think the best and fun part was that slap. Act first type of thing. She had Cash by the balls though. My boy was crashing out over her and the youth. His support game had my heart beating fast from admiration.

It’s a nice quick read and although it’s fast paced I think the development of their relationship was handled well. I also loved that we weren’t taken on any dragged out or unnecessary drama and instead we got to focus on their relationship the most. I do wish some parts could’ve been more detailed and we didn’t skip so much time with the chapters but it’s a short book so I won’t complain about that too much.

Sweet Tooth for Suge!!

Yessssssssssss I loved me some Sguar Baby James and Cassius. The way they met wasn't crazy but like Sugr said everything happened for a reason. I knew the moment Cash met Sugar and put his hand around her neck that he wanted her. I'm so glad that Tyreek got himself together and went to one of the best colleges ever. I love Suge and Rittany as best friends. I loved this read and enjoyed every minute of it.

too cute

I loved how this played out. They were exactly what each other needed. Both were open to all possibilities, so they could be happy. I loved how they both came into the people they always wanted to be while being together and encouraging it at every turn. They were cute and silly and while we all know it’s not always perfect, they made it look easy and perfect because it was them. They were perfect for each other

Cassius x Sugar Baby … Cash and Suge … i went into this read blind, saw the cover and downloaded it at 3am because I couldn’t sleep.

Cash and Suge gave me insta love and vibes without all the drama. Sugar was standing 10 toes down behind her family and that love and loyalty she put into the universe came back tenfold.

Not only did Cash show up for her in ways she didn’t expect but he showed up for her family and kept showing up from the moment they met.
