Photographs of cats and the women who love them complete with captions written by each owner fill this volume that celebrates the unique bond between woman and cat.
What a fun used bookstore find! From the moment I saw the cover, I knew it would be mine, or perhaps a gift for a feline-loving friend, but first I would enjoy it before passing it on... The photos are subtly wonderful on their own but gain some magic when paired with loving stories from the cat owners, and in some cases from the cats themselves! I loved that the stories are super short (never more than a page), and found reading them almost addictive (“just one more”). I liked the meet-cute stories the best, and also the ones describing a particularly heartfelt or serendipitous moment. They elevated my mood and my desire to one day have a cat (after a childhood living with two). I noted that the women included were predominately White, with maybe only 2 or 3 stories from women of color out of more than 50, but a variety of backgrounds, class, ages, and abilities seemed to be represented. I did often wish the photos were in color. I wonder why they went with black-and-white... cheaper to print maybe? Best cat names: Bud, Tootie, Cashmere, Socrates, Mitch Miller, Cricket, Geronimo, and Yankee Doll.
The bond between felines and females is a fine thing to celebrate.
Purchased for $5.32 at Sellers Books & Fine Art in Jim Thorpe/Mauch Chunk, Pa., in November 2019 while on a weekend getaway trip.
The photography is beautiful and the various ladies clearly love their cats but somehow the prose just didn't grab me like other books of this genre. My favorite picture is on page 114 of the little girl with a paper bag mask and her cat also with a paper bag mask. My son who is also a lover of cats enjoyed looking at all of the pictures.
A lovely book, this shows a variety of women with their cats. Each has a paragraph telling something about their relationship with the cat(s). A great coffee-table book!
