This was not of immediate interest to me, but the format was attractive, so I grabbed it. It ended up not being an absorbing read, so I skimmed through it. I think it is a good book, just very much not my personal cup of tea. I was impressed with the wide range of topics they covered - a summary of what Rock 'n' Roll Camp is, tidbits of info for all the different instruments in your Rock Band, technical information for setting up your band to play, how to get someone to let you play somewhere th ...more

The actual, real Rock'N' Roll Camp for Girls teaches girls ages 8 to 18 how to make music and start a band in just a short amount of time. And now they're teaching you.

ROCK'N'ROLL CAMP FOR GIRLS covers more than what you might think. Not only does it cover all of the things mentioned in the title, it also gives you step-by-step instructions on how to play instruments like the guitar, how to pick one out, self-defense methods, and so many other things.

With varied essays and an overall tone intended to inspire confidence in its readers, this book is a useful compendium of information for aspiring young musicians. A foreword by Carrie Brownstein of the rock band Sleater-Kinney helps to set the tone of the book with her focus on the power of trying new creative efforts. The book’s essays are grouped into sections and have descriptive titles that help the reader to move through the book and acquire what information is relevant for them. Overall, ...more

i really, really would have loved it if this book (and the camp) existed when i was a teenager. the format is really simple, but nothing is glossed over or simplified. some chapters deal with the real nitty-gritty aspects of making music. plus there's stuff about putting on shows, writing press releases and defending yourself. cool.

This book is the essential tool for any girl in or out of the music world. Although if you don't know much about music or don't play anything you probably won't have much fun with it. However, I loved it. I play guitar as my name states. I probable learned more than this than I have in one lesson with my teacher. It has some great stuff on the Runaways, ESG, and other awesome girl bands

Written like a zine, this is a fun and empowering guide to rocking out - for real. Everything from choosing a guitar and setting up your equipment to promoting your show and getting press. I'm inspired by this program and the women who contributed to this book!
