The novel continues the struggle of Mark Midway and the team from the FBI and General Schmidt as they combat Cerberus. Mark and Co. have freed two groups of gene altered children from Cerberus but then lose them in an attack and now the Chinese are getting themselves into the mix. How will Mark fare as the dynamics and personnel change? I will head to no 3 after I get caught up on my ever growing TBR stack

99% of this book was in the same vein as book one and of the same caliber. The ending though... sometimes you can just tell when the author has taken a wrong turn and instead of doing a re-write, an enormous hammer is brought down on the board, simplifying everything. I won't spoil this betrayal of an ending but it's a doozy.
I plan to finish the four books in volume 1 but I will be moving forward based on my own imagined re-write for book two.

The hydra is everywhere
Mark just wants to be able to have a simple, quiet life. Unfortunately for him he can’t stop himself from helping when he sees a kidnapping in progress. After that he finds himself in difficult situations frequently since Cerberus has its agents in so many unexpected places.
My only disagreement with the story is how the events at the very end were done. We really don’t have any basis for the enemy to do what they did. Otherwise the story has been good.

John Hindmarsh continues to dig deeper into the past/origin of Mark Midway, a young man who has been genetically engineered and is having a hard time coping with forces that have no intention of giving him any peace or leaving him alone. Lots of action, and an evolving cast of characters. I loved Mark One, and at this point have read the first four books in the series (box set). And they just keep getting better and better.

What a rush!
For me 5 stars means you keep me in the world of the story and this series so far leaves nothing out and no one is safe!

A good story.
Genetic engineering and military force. Kind of scary. A sign of things to come. What will happen next? Will have to read the next book.
