Charley Underwood #4
Bloodlust Shadows: A gripping and utterly addictive urban fantasy
I’m Charley Underwood—welcome to the Stag. Keep your fangs to yourself and don’t forget to tip your bartender.
In Crimson, vampires, wolves, and humans live side by side. And I try to keep them from tearing each other apart.
After taking down a bloodsucking mobster and a rogue witch, I thought I’d catch a break. Maybe even a few days to fix up my bar and spend some quality time with Samuel, my vampire boyfriend.
But I should have known better—after all, this is Crimson.
An old enemy is out for blood, stalking us and leaving terrifying warnings. And this vampire likes to play with his victims, always staying one step ahead. Soon the whole town is caught in his games.
Customers start showing up beaten and bruised, unable to explain what happened. There are rumors of addictions and poisoned blood…
When Samuel disappears, it’s clear this opponent is smarter and more twisted than any I’ve faced before.
And he won’t stop until he’s taken everything from me.
An absolutely thrilling and totally unputdownable urban fantasy adventure, the Charley Underwood series is perfect for fans of Kim Richardson, Charlaine Harris, and Patricia Briggs.

If you're looking for an excellent urban fantasy full of action, mystery and fun characters, this is it.
This series just gets better with each book.
Set in the dangerously charming town of Crimson; where things tend to blow up, both figuratively and physically. It's never boring.
Secretive wolves, manipulative vampires, diverse witches and a murder of crows.
Something is wrong, people are getting sick and showing up in the bar black and blue. A bunch of thugs show up, too. And now Samuel is missing.
Charlie and her friends never get a break in this crazy town.
I was thrilled to review this arc copy.

charley is annoying in this one
The storyline is fine. Loved the co-op solution. Charley, in my mind, is becoming an old gruff western widower. Everything she says is aggressive. BOSSY everywhere to everyone. Interesting conversations she just runs away from. She thinks everything is her business. I get she’s the main character but the intrusive aggressiveness is off for the situation. Dog is the alpha of the wolves she’s his boss at the bar not of his life. After all the drama she has brought to the bar and he’s helped her with its hypocritical to not return his favors.

I mean, how is this book over already? I can't believe that I blitzed this book literally in a day, and now Charley's done. No, I need the next book now, especially with the outburst at the end of the last book by dog, like seriously, give it to me!!!!!
Now, this one was interesting. They're all interesting. I love the mix of Fae, vampires, werewolves, humans, witches, and everything you could imagine, lives in Crimson.
I just love Charley. She's badass, and after eating her dad's spider in the last book, it seems like there's a bit of a complication now with what could be happening, and I'm excited to see what happens with Charley and, dare I say, her new powers.
We learned so much more about Samuel, and I love Samuel. I love Samuel with Charley. I love Samuel on his own. I just love Samuel and his backstory is and it's just heartbreaking in a sense that it was unnecessary. It was so unnecessary what happened to him, but because of revenge, because of family, he was screwed.
And what I loved about this book is literally been only a week since the last book!!!! I love that there is hardly any time. However, I do feel like Charley needs a break. I mean, come on, it's been a week since we met Victor still. And yet, already, we've got Shane coming into town. We've got wolf pack fights, buildings blowing up, and Candy and the witches, and yet, Charlie has not had a break. She powers through. Hopefully, one day she'll get a bit of a break, who knows, but it doesn't sound like she's going to get it anytime soon. And after that explosive ending, it's required!
I love Luanne's writing. I love these books. As I said, I devoured this in a day. Because I just got so absorbed into the writing. You just can't help but sit and read, and before you know it, it's the end - like, how did that happen? Although I listen to the books. I prefer audiobooks, and Stephanie is great at narrating Charley and the town. I love coming back to these audiobooks, listening to the characters, how Stephanie narrates them, because it's nice to hear their voices through her.
I don't know what else to say. I just love it. It's explosive. It's addictive. So much is going on, and there's never a rest day. And who doesn't love the Stag? I want to go to the Stag! Is there a way I can go to the stag? Can I go to the Stag? Just love it!

It's off to Crimson we go to pull up a pew in the best bar in town, The Stag...where the punters are anything but normal...and the landlady is a witch...never a dull moment to be had!
Bloodlust Shadows is the fourth book in this series and I found it so easy to slip back into Charley's world. It was like I'd never been away.
Taking me slap bang straight into the action, the story flowed at a fast pace and had me hooked immediately. The character development grows with each book and Bennett's world building is sooooo good.
This shows would make such a great @netflixuk series don't you think?
Enjoyed every minute!

I'm done
Probably just my mind playing tricks when she sees a flicker of magic on the book she says she has no time to read
This is book 4 and she still keeps ignoring magic signs
Sure it's to set up next book or drama, but really?

This book was my least favorite in the series. The others were kind if boring but not terrible so I kept reading; this one made me mad.
Charley is either incredibly stupid or deliberately obtuse. The author lays out all the clues for the readers plain as day (in an often repetitive way) which makes it seem like Charley is just stupid for not putting the pieces together way faster. She may have short term memory loss the way she can't remember facts she just learned and use them to aid her. This compounded with the fact that Samuel was actually insufferable in this book for some reason (which is super disappointing because I actually liked him before this book, but he was really ineffective here and had a strange personality shift) and the villian was actually really lame and this book could not keep me engaged at all!
These books are also largely anticlimactic and lack all tension. The characters just do things for no particular reason it seems. Like Charley being told not to go into the wolf compound and then she does three separate times in the book and she's confused every time why they don't immediately accept her, it's actually giving cultural insensitivity and entitlement because of the way this author has set up this world but that's not the main issue. Also they always go to the bar before going somewhere else just so they can have conversation about things the reader already knows and set up new plot points that aren't relevant to the impending issue but they never actually come up with a plan so it seems like a complete waste of time. The main conflict.of this book was also not nearly as compelling as any of the previous plots and they literally just tried the same plan three separate times until it worked. All the characters felt extra useless in this book because they didn't use any of their abilities when Samuel was kidnapped, they just kept folding with zero pressure applied.
Speaking of useless things, the characters in this series are super flat and one dimensional. There way more telling than showing with their personality traits. Dog is supposed to be the leader of the pack, but we know maybe 4 wolves in the pack and none of them have had a relevant speaking line in all the books. We never see him actually leading his pack, although the end chapter sets up book 5 to potentially go thay way but I suspect the author still won't actually make good on letting us see more of the pack and Dogs personality. Candy is similarly one-note. She is said to be a bad ass witch but she doesn't do anything cool she just says sassy one-liners. She's had her entire set of magic stolen from her twice now and hasn't ever been effective in a fight or power struggle. She's just a mysterious ex-stripper who gives vague magic knowledge that Charley doesn't do anything with. Lucy is similar, she's just sassy and in the background. Beau has a little.bit of personality but he's just filler in this book. And my least favorite is Patrick he's such a stereotype of a gbf it's almost insulting. He is literally just used to throw around queer slang and be mean he and Charley don't even feel like friends. The only character I still like is Ian and that's only because he actually has chemistry with Charley.
My last issue is that, as previously mentioned, the author spoon feeds the audience with the reveal everytime as though the reader won't understand what's happening around them, but then doesn't explain large world-building aspects that would make me more endeared to a character. For example, Beau is now a hollerwolf but what in God's name does that mean for him? We'll never know because luanne has yet to explain it. Why didn't his alternate form show up earlier? How does this differ from being a wolf shifter? Are there other animal shifters that we don't know about? All good questions some of which were raised in the books. None have answers. A lot of it can be inferred, but it still seems lazy to just throw a plot element in that changes a character completely and then not give deeper context. And this isnacross two books of this aspect of his character. I tried to give it time for her to develop it in this book but nope still nothing. There are simply world-building and continuity errors across these books especially for them to have come out so close together you would think that this wouldn't be such a prominent issue.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.I picked up Bloodlust Shadows expecting suspense, mystery, humor, and a reunion with characters I’ve truly come to love. And it delivered on every count—reminding me exactly why the Charley Underwood series has become one of my favorites.
Bloodlust Shadows continues the Charley Underwood series, and slipping into this book felt like sliding into a familiar booth at my favorite hangout—comfortable, exciting, and full of energy. The atmosphere carried the same charm I’ve come to love from the earlier books, with sharp, witty banter and characters who feel like old friends.
What I enjoy most about this series is how effortlessly it blends humor, heart, and suspense. This installment didn’t disappoint. With relatable characters, a scintillating mystery, and all the supernatural small-town drama you could want, Bloodlust Shadows delivered exactly the kind of reading experience that keeps me coming back for more.
I enjoyed getting a deeper look at Samuel’s past. His past comes back to haunt him, and the choices he made in the previous installment created a dangerous chain reaction. His backstory added depth to his character and made the stakes feel more personal.
Charley and her crew have to step up like never before to help him. This time, it’s not just about saving the town—it’s about saving someone they care about. I loved seeing Charley balance her humor and snark with her loyalty and determination.
Charley’s powers are also growing, making her an even stronger force to reckon with. Her abilities give her confidence, but they also bring new challenges and dangers. The higher the stakes, the more intense the suspense becomes—not just for her, but for everyone around her. I loved seeing her learn to trust and control her powers while still relying on her friends and crew. It added another layer to the story and made it thrilling from start to finish.
Bloodlust Shadows blends humor, heart, suspense, and supernatural adventure. If you love series with strong heroines, loyal friends, and small-town mysteries with high stakes, this one is definitely worth reading. I can’t wait to see what happens next in Charley’s world! This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

I have enjoyed reading the Charley Underwood series. In book 4 - Bloodlust Shadows - we get some more of Samuel's history and Charley powers continue to get stronger.
I like how the author gives nuggets of different plot lines. However, some of them just seem to be left hanging. Things that seem like they may be important to the story and for other characters to know don't get communicated.
Dog has been a good support character for Charley, both in her business and her personal life. I do not like how her character development took a nose dive and really treated him like crap in this book. After all the time Dog and his pack spends watching over Charley and trying to protect her at home and on her half baked missions to rescue or look for Samuel, she has no regard for his relationship with Tempest. He has not had a solid relationship or a day off and when he finds someone, she gives him demands to send the woman away. Yet he did not demand she send Samuel away with all the drama that came with him. Instead he helps her with every drama she is involved in because of Samuel. Charley does not mention how much danger her bar and employees and friends have been in because of her or Samuel - kidnappings, attempted murders, etc. Yet, she treats Dog like he is not an alpha of a pack and does it in front of his pack.
I hope Charley's character is better in the next book.

Bloodlust Shadows, Book 4 in the Charlie Underwood series. Scheduled to publish August 8, 2025.
Charley Once again is taking on the role of keeping Crimson together. Within the small Georgia town, there are vampires, wolves, and humans living amongst one another and she is determined to keep the peace in anyway she can.
I have read every book up to this prior to published date and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I found myself laughing a lot in this one and loved the one liners.
Samuel disappears and all effort moves to finding him and bringing him back to safety. We are made aware of his background and history, which came in great timing for this book.
We see some social and political happenings as Charley’s blood supply has challenges.
Charley’s Character is completely solidified and in alignment with the other installments in this story. We see her really take on the role of protective nature over Samuel and her friendships in this book. We see a more bad ass warrior in the story as she fights hard to keep the peace new things unfold. Charley juggles a lot and overcomes many challenges in this story.
I look forward to the new installment in this series. It will be a long hard wait until book 5 releases.
Thank you to Second Sky for an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Charley Underwood doesn’t just stir drinks at The Stag, she stirs up trouble, sass, and supernatural drama like it’s happy hour. Bloodlust Shadows had me hooked from page one, fast-paced, sharp, and full of bite, literally.
Charley grew slowly on me, as she’s sassy, snarky, and doesn’t spare punches, whether she’s facing down vampires or throwing shade at her own chaotic town. Her voice is bold and hilarious, her comebacks are weapons, and she doesn’t shy away from helping friends even when it’s high risky.
Her romance is not an easy one, and maybe the past is not so past, as it could be reappearing in a mix of dubious clues, menaces, and a long-time enmity with Samuel.
The town of Crimson is a hot mess, and I loved every second of it. Between shady vampires, snarky witches, and a mystery that kept twisting, I barely had time to blink.
The plot flew by, with just enough chaos to keep me guessing, but not so much that I got lost. I had to reread a couple of scenes, sure, but they were worth it, packed with tension and clever dialogue.
This book is like your favorite cocktail: strong, a little wild and leaves you wanting more. If you like your urban fantasy with attitude and a dash of danger, pour yourself a glass of Bloodlust Shadows.
Many thanks to Second Sky for this digital copy, all opinions are mine.

We are back in Crimson for book four in the Charley Underwood series. This book picks up right after the events in book three and we get to learn more about Samuel’s past. Unfortunately, his blast from the past leads to current woes for Samuel and Charley. While Samuel is trying to resolve his issues, Charley has her hands full with her bar the Stag, infected blood, and invading werewolves.
This book was very enjoyable. The story is fast paced with no lags. Charley is really coming into her powers but it’s frustrating to me that she always seems doubtful about her power and her potential. This book is about Samuel’s past but we don’t get a ton of Samuel and Charlie as a team but that’s okay because there is plenty of action. Don’t worry the regular cast of characters are still there and bring their own drama. There is a problem with the blood business and potentially tainted blood, Dog is cranky and burned out, and everyone is dealing with a new group of wolves. It’s a lot but it all fits. I liked this book a lot.
This book is a solid 4.5 stars! Luanne Bennett has delivered yet another great book in this series. Thank you very much to Luanne, the publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

This is the Author's 4th book in her Charley Underwood series and in my opinion can be read as
a standalone , although reading the previous books would give a reader a clearer view of the main characters
This book has everything I could want in a paranormal thriller ........... wonderful characters , witches , werewolves and
vampires and best of all a great storyline .
Samuel's past has come back to haunt him - can Charley , whose powers are growing stronger by the day , save not
just him but the town as well .......... she needs help from her crew and friends - will that be enough ?
The on again , off again problem with the blood supply continues to run in the background adding to the stress
of keeping everything together - yet another problem for Charley to juggle
This is another great read from the Author , fast paced , full of mystery and suspense ,with moments of snarky humour ,
it's a real page turner from the first page to the last . I look forward to reading more Charley books in the future
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

After the way the previous book ended, we knew Charley would not get a break. At this point, I’d just tie up any newcomers so that could you preempt whatever terrible thing they are bringing to town. Sadly, that’s not the case here.
This book gives us tons and tons of Samuel’s mysterious backstory, but we need to be faced with impending doom in the form of vampire retaliation for it to come to light. There’s an underground fight club, a poison in the blood commune’s supply, and some very strange developments with Charley’s powers. Throw in some sizzling time in a dungeon and you’ve got yourself a jam-packed installment here.
The gang really rallies together to a greater degree to support their resident bar owner and her boyfriend vampire. Oh - and we get some good development with Charley’s resident waitstaff! All of this made for a pretty satisfying and exciting book. Poor Charley and Samuel could use a vacation though. Maybe next book?

Bloodlust Shadows - Luanne Bennett
5✨
Another masterpiece from Luanne, with each book I’m falling more and more in love with Charley and her friends. The fact that there is a new mystery and enemy in each book makes it so much more fun, most books these days have the same enemy and fight over 4 books and after a while you kinda lose interest but not with this series! Hell even the damn spiders are growing on me. Anyway in this book the new enemy is Samuels “brother” who is out for revenge and will stop at nothing to get it which makes for a story that keeps you on your toes. The ending also sets you up nicely for the next book, speaking of I’m going to read that one right now. In the meanwhile I suggest you get your hands on the first books of the Charley Underwood series if you haven’t already!
Thank you NetGalley, SecondSky and Luanne for this ARC, I am leaving this review voluntarily 💕

Get Ready for Bloodlust Shadows – Book 4 in the Charley Underwood Series! Let me tell you, it will keep you on the edge of your seat!
Charley is really coming into her power, and it's evident that her abilities are growing stronger. However, her relationship with Samuel faces some serious challenges when an enemy from his past resurfaces, determined to destroy him at any cost. Charley must think quickly if she hopes to protect the most important man in her life.
Adding to the tension, a new pack has arrived in town, frequently appearing at Charley's bar. Their primary goal? To retrieve their missing pack leader’s woman, with all clues pointing back to Charley's establishment.
The story moves at a rapid pace, and I assure you, you won't want to miss a single word. I loved every moment of it!

Crimson isn’t a regular town. With vampires, shifters, and humans living side by side, tensions always run high. Charley Underwood — bar owner and witch— tries to keep the peace as best she can.
This is book 4 in the Charley Underwood urban fantasy series and it picks up where the last book left off, as our heroine Charley finds herself faced with her boyfriend's old nemesis. It cannot be read as a standalone as it carries on with plot threads introduced in previous books and assumes a certain level of familiarity with the characters.
A recommended read for fans of urban fantasy with strong female characters in the style of Charlaine Harris and Patricia Briggs.
Thank you to Netgalley and Second Sky for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was so excited to see a book in this universe, I squealed out loud when I saw this up for request. Charley is a great protagonist, and the side characters aren’t too shabby either. This takes up where the third one left off; Samuel’s vampire brother is out to get him for the murder of their sire, but he likes to play a little before going in for the kill. We find out more about the backstory for Samuel and Shane, Charley is having some weird things happen to her, and Dog is acting a little out of character. This is a great installment in the series, and I ended this book being so angry at Dog and wanting the next book now. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

This eARC was provided by Netgalley.com and I am giving an unbiased review.
This is the fourth book in the Charley Underwood series, and takes place right after the third book. Since Samuel killed his Maker, a 'sibling' has shown up in Crimson to exact revenge, and he plans on hurting others to get it done.
It was nice getting some history on Samuel, as it does some flashbacks to his past, and dealing with Shane, the 'sibling'. We also get some small back history on Dog, and some connections with the Pack and the Northern Pack. Charley and Samuel still seem to never get time alone, and just smolders the romance part of the story. Looking for a few more books in this story line from Bennett.

I love these plots
Charlie is just really slow and weak. It's infuriating. I have to take big breaks between each story because the obvious just blows past this dimwit. And she's scared of everything for someone who also thinks she's tough. Good writing, great writing but Charley is a weak, idiotic coward. The author is clearly capable of better. Don't make a hero who has the powers and worse a rude attitude without having brains to back it up . It says to me that the author thinks we're all stupid so she makes her characters stupid so we can keep up . I just feel like I've figured out the story, throughout the story constantly before the fool who should've had a clue before me ever does. Every time.

I’m writing this at 63% bc I’m not sure if I’ll finish. I agree with other reviewers that instead of getting more depth for the characters, they seem to get flatter.
Samuel’s personality change is major ick. Does he know what consent is?
He treats Charley badly, and she just goes along with it bc she might love him. Ew.
I’m starting to notice plot holes, too. In book 3, it’s made clear that Beau’s dad is dangerous but nothing ever happens with him.
Charley has an aunt, but she never interacts with Katherine. Where was the Squad while she was growing up?
She gets a familiar, but there’s zero mention of anything more - yet there could be!
I’ve liked the author’s other series but this one is boring and getting worse as I read.

Bloodlust Shadows was another fun installment in the Charley Underwood series. In this volume we got more backstory for Samuel as well as further progression in Charley's magical abilities. This volume was focused mostly on the vampire characters, but it also set the scene for a more werewolf focused subplot in the fifth book. The pacing in this story was good, so it was a quick and easy read to snuggle in bed with on a cold winter night. In this book there was a lot of reference back to events in the earlier volumes, so it is a series it's best to read in sequence. I am giving this one 4 stars.

Thank you Netgalley and Second Sky for the chance to read an ARC of Bloodlust shadows (Charley Underwood, book 4) by Luanne Bennett. I have really enjoyed this action-filled urban fantasy which has a slightly different take on witches, vampires and werewolves. Charley spends her days and nights running her bar, and trying to keep the peace in small town Crimson, but someone is always making trouble! This time, her boyfriend Samuel disappears and the new vampire in town seems to be the problem. I found myself laughing at the antics, and enjoy Charley's kick-ass personality! I can't wait for the next book!!
The story flows from one book to the next, so I suggest reading them in order.

This was such a fun fast paced visit with Charley. I’m a big fan of her and the surrounding cast of characters. I will say this book made me see Dog in a totally different light. I’m very curious to see where his story goes. I love a good paranormal and these characters are such a hodge podge and how they create their own family unit is unique. Plus it seems Charlie has some surprises up her sleeves that even she doesn’t know about.
If you are a fan of paranormal, this series needs to be on your TBR.

I have been enjoying this series and getting to know Charley and her friends.
This time the blood they get from vampires, to help human sickness, is tainted and Charley needs to find out why. She is also dating a vampire and then he goes missing so she is on the hunt to find him.
Urban fantasy with some romance. Vampires, witches and wolves living among humans makes this series interesting and wanting to continue on with the series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Second sky for the ebook to review.

good
One of the things I like about these books is that Charlie’s friends are pretty much in every book. Poor Charlie never seems to catch a break after she had to deal with her father in the last book. Instead of being able to have some peace now she has a strange vampire showing up in her bar. Nobody really knows who he is they just know he does strange card tricks. Charlie also finds out that she has more relatives in town than she thought she did and who they are. I’ll definitely read the next book in this series.

Urban fantasy with wolves, witches and vampires.
4th in a series but can be read as standalone
This was a really fun urban fantasy, I loved Charley and her bad ass attitude it’s a refreshing change to have a FMC saving the MMC. There was light spice that was really well done and I loved the dynamic between Charley and Samuel.
I really enjoyed all the different stories of the wolves witches and vampires and will definitely be reading the other books in this series.
Thank you NetGalley and second Sky for the earc

I started reading this book 3 months ago. 3 months! It’s so boring. Charley is a dumb human/witch. Samuel’s character got lame, Dog is lame. The whole book is just bad. Not only that I feel like this author took a lot of their ideas from True Blood. I just rewatched the entire series and a lot of her books have very similar plot lines.
Sadly I wasted a bunch of Amazon credits to buy almost the entire series, but I’m quitting it with this book. Shame.
