I'm a huge fan of insta-love , grunge era flannel, my vintage Kenmore sewing machine, embroidered dishcloths and absolutely everything that has to do with 1980s pop culture (i.e. leg warmers, scrunchies, big hair, early Madonna, boom boxes, wood paneled walls, stonewash jeans, etc).

If you believe in Happily Ever After and improbable love stories, chances are I'll love you too!!

“Fuck, it hurts to see you in pain. I just want to take it all away.”

Promise me is the second book in the Defiant Motorcycle Club series, and it was so damn good. It is longer than the first book which I loved, and gave me all of the things the first book lacked. I feel I really got to know these characters, and see their relationship develop. I will warn everyone, and say that the heroine is raped and beat in this book by her worthless evil bastard of a husband who is not the hero.

What this book is about

Promise was born and raised in a polygamous religious cult called Faithful Last Disciples and Saints. Promise is being forced to marry a evil sadistic man, who already has 4 wives. She thinks about running away like her cousin Rachel did to escape the marriage, but her uncle the "Bishop" who is also Rachel's father tells her if she doesn't marry, her 16 year old sister Jenny will take her place, so she stays. On her wedding night she realizes what a big mistake that is when her evil husband beats her, and rapes her a number of times. The next day her husband has a business trip, and takes her with him so he can beat and rape her some more. While on the trip her husband lets her know that Jenny has been married off while they were gone to a older man from a sister cult. Feeling sick over all of it she tells her husband she has to use the bathroom, and she runs into the local Burger King. When she gets inside she see two men wearing leather cuts that say Defiant on them, and she remembers her Cousin Rachel was with a man wearing the same cut. Knowing she has nothing to lose she ask one of the men named Grayson to help her and take her to her cousin Rachel. He helps her, but can she make a normal life for herself? Will she ever see her sister Jenny again, or will her husband find her, and make her pay for running ?

“And there’s nothing anyone could say to make me think badly of Grayson. Nothing.”

Grayson:

 photo gray1_zpsceaghd2w.jpg

Grayson is a true hero in every sense of the word. He helps Promise, protects her , and makes her feel safe. He is so damn sweet with her. He wants Promise, but fears she has lived through too much, so he offers her friendship and support. When they fall in love he gives her his whole heart holding nothing back. Always building her up, telling her how much he loves her, and how beautiful, amazing, and strong she is. He shows her the joys of being with a man, and earns her trust. I love Grayson!!!!!!!

“Hush,” he said, his voice rough and pained, “no one’s gonna hurt you. Not while I’m here. I promise. I promise.”

“My dick gets hard every time I see you. You’re so beautiful. No, don’t close your eyes. Look at how we are together. See the way my hands look on your body?”

Promise:

 photo promise3_zpsqd5eti32.jpg

Wow did I love Promise. She is a total stand out character for me. Strong and brave, but soft and vulnerable too. Her background coming from a polygamous cult was new for me, not something I have read before. She doesn't want pity, and she doesn't want to lose anymore life to her past, and even thought she has demons and fears she doesn't let them keep her from starting a new life. I love her raw innocent honesty, she doesn't know to hold back and just says what she thinks and feels. I love that when she and Grayson get together she just lets herself feel and do. It's like girls gone wild! She helps Grayson too, showing him that he is a great man, with a good heart. It's cute reading about her learning the joys of a free and normal life, wearing jeans, saying a cuss word, making love.

“You hungry?” “I’m fucking starving.” He laughed out loud. “Since when do you talk like that?” “Since I fucking can.” He continued to laugh. “Well, don’t fucking overdo it.”

“I will not. I can’t have you saying you’re not a good man when you’re the only one I’ve ever known. I thought good men weren’t real. Gray, all that’s gone when I’m with you. All the terrible things fade away.”

 photo bite_zps1o8pxoa4.jpg

“Gray,” I implored, “I need you inside me.” “You need me to fuck you, huh?” “Yes. I need you. I need your dick.”

I found Promise me to be a beautiful love story. It is emotional and super sweet, but still smokin' hot too. Grayson and Promise are great together. Giving, loving, and building each other up. I felt very connected to them and their relationship. I enjoyed seeing more of Rachel, Casper, Kira and Orian. I loved the plot. It was something new to me, something fresh and interesting. And the ending OMG so sweet. Great read!

“That was a shitty day,” I agreed. “And yet I started to fall for you right there in the middle of my most bleak hour. You defied my abuser and gave me the strength to hope.” I leaned my cheek against his shoulder. “And in spite of everything, I wouldn’t trade all of that.”

I'm not going to lie...I was cringing and almost sick to my stomach the first 15% of this book. What Promise had to go through, the way she was treated by her "husband" was horrific. I'm glad I plugged through it though.

I don't know what to even say about Grayson other than he was the perfect hero...there for Promise, not pushing her too much but just enough to heal. He was awesome. Promise herself was so strong I wanted to shout and cheer for her, that she would push herself out of what she'd been "taught" and want a different life. I actually loved all the characters. I want to read Jenny's story too.

I loved the epilogue but I really wanted to see them a little more in the future. I want to see Promise get all that her heart desires.

I enjoyed reading this one. Been a long time since I read an MC book. I also appreciated the fact that the Hero was not some cheating manwhore. He was perfect actually. The heroine was very strong and likeable. The beginning wasn't an easy read. There is rape and other abuse. It was very raw.

I had a little bit of trouble when the book switched from rape and abuse to steamy hot sexscenes. I mean...Promise was raised in a commune. She was given away by her father to marry this sick fuck bastard who beat the shit out of her and raped her repeatetly. Before the rape, she didn't even think of sex or had any experience with men whatsoever.

Then Grayson saves her and she falls in love (pretty quickly) and all of a sudden after having sex with him once, she turns into some sort of sexkitten. That wasn't very realistic to me. The dirtytalking was just akward and weird for me. Also she was so scared of being pregnant by the bastard that raped her, but her and Gray didn't use protection once, because she didn't mind getting pregnant with him (she knew him for 3 weeks??)...what about diseases ??

Also..there were a shitton "I love you's " ...a bit too much for my liking.

Like I said, I liked the H and h and I liked the storyline, it was just a bit too much too soon for me.

3 stars from me.

After being less than ecstatic about book 1 in this series, I was a little hesitant about forging into book 2. But holy hell am I glad I did. I cannot believe how much I enjoyed reading this book. The author deftly dealt with some serious moral issues in this book and did it in a splendid manner. She gave us a hot romance between a hot biker man and a strong woman who had to fight so many battles. But she was strong and did it well with Grayson’s support. The plot was believable and I was drawn to Grayson, Promise, Rachel and Casper. To be truthful, Orian and Kira still are not my favorite characters but all of the others more than made up for that. This is a highly compelling story that is not just about hot sex with a hot biker. I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to the next story in the series.

Ok I really liked this one! It was much better than the first one. Grayson was a wonderful H- he was sweet, thoughtful and protective. Promise was a great h- she had been through a horrific experience but she was strong and had a great attitude. Also Promise was lucky because none of her new friends had sex with the H. That was a big problem I had with the first book- every chick the poor h met had banged the H. Anyway- the H did have one nasty ex who showed up once. It was minimal drama and the h knew the H only loved her. This was a very enjoyable read and I loved how Grayson and Promise were with each other. Safety gang safe

Loved the unique plot line...found heroine's story, interesting, horrifying and compelling. The story made me really feel for the heroine and her suffering, so up a star for that. The romance was very sweet, and I loved the alpha hero protectiveness of the hero and the MC men (usually MC men are pretty rough...here there are other men so much more evil that the MC guys seem rather innocuous). But WAY too many "I love you's", replacing actual dialogue. Who says it every 5 minutes? Maybe to your kid, but not your lover, yuck. So had to lose a star for that.

Heartwarming MC read

I cant always say that about an mc read but with bbf Grayson in this one I can.

Promise had a sheltered upbringing part of a religious cult were men had more than one wife and old men took child brides, treating them as they pleased.

Promise was one of those girls, used and abused and desperate to escape the living nightmare.

When a trip with her husband took her away from her home the fear of another beating had her falling into the arms of this gorgeous biker.

Fate intervened that night and the road to healing, redemption and a beautiful relationship began.

Fast paced, great characters and recommended read.

Well, I just finished it and I am actually sad it's over! Cora out did herself with this one. It totally rocked! All of it..... This the sequel to Know Me. It's a great short MC romance. You don't have to read it first, but it really adds to the story and helps you understand the president and Kira. Promise Me deals with some pretty tough stuff. The lead character had a rough go of it in the beginning. Her new husband was a complete ass. It is very well written. Not too much, but enough for you to want his balls on a platter. When Gray came into the picture, things turned around for her pretty quickly. Just enough wait time and then an awesome romance. This MC family helps both of these characters survive their terrible past. Is just a matter of if this family and Gray are enough to keep her safe from her past? It has a great story line.

I gotta know who's next! I love, love, love Brandon. He has a great personality. Made me smile every time he showed up in the storyline. I also want to see Teague get his happy ending, and Maddox is a total bad ass. Great side characters. This book has it all. Please, hurry with the next book! ;)

First thing, Orion & Kira are just crass & disgusting. He's a complete douche who's a pervert for hooking up with her who is young enough to be his daughter. All they do is screw, day & night. It seems that's all these people do.

The beginning of this book was really heartbreaking & disturbing because of the fact that these cults exist in real life. But I can't wrap my head around Promise adjusting to normal life so easily after she escapes such a traumatic experience. She's been brutally raped & beated repeatedly over a few days. She should be an emotional mess ontop of all the physical injuries. Her head should be so messed up that she would need serious therapy before letting any man near her. But within a few days she's chummy chummy with Grayson & within a few days they're screwing & professing their undying love. What??? Ugh this was just a mess of a story. Not well thought out. It had potential to be a deep, dark dangerous romance but it fell short.

The second half of this book was excellent.
This story had some strong themes of abuse and rape. It was not an easy book to read and I admire the author's ability to make this book an uplifting story. I thought Promise was very well characterized and the length of the story did justice to the change and growth in her personality as time passed. The dialogue of all characters was unpolished and jarring, more so than the context required but it was a minor part of the book. Grayson was the best man in the entire cast of characters and I am glad Promise got him as her love and life partner. This was an interesting read.

I had just finished Fired by the author and felt like an MC so figured I would give the next book in this series that I started another shot. It was good, not great but I still enjoyed it!

I have to give credit in that after reading her current novel, boy how she has grown as a writer!!!!! This book compared to her new book was a big difference and I congratulate her on her obvious growth. Now, I don't mean this was bad at all but I could definitely see how much potential she had and how much she has gained since this series was written......leaps and bounds for sure:) I do mean that in a total complimentary way too!!!!!

Promise Talbot at twenty-one has been told she's to marry Winston Allred this is a situation she could have found herself in at just sixteen years of age if circumstances had been different, she will be his fifth wife.
Winston Allred is a cruel and violent man who takes full advantage of his position and Promise can see the life that lays before her but then she gets the chance to escape and grabs it with both hands.
Grayson Mercado is the man who saves her, he's suffered himself, he had the injustice of being imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit, his promising young life was taken away but now he's free and a member of the Defiant MC.
The attraction between Grayson and Promise happens very quickly and Promise quickly adjusts to her new life.
I really enjoyed this book liking both the main characters, it's not your typical MC read since the MC part is mainly the background which holds these men together.
Promise adapted incredibly well, far quicker than I would have thought possible but then she's young and she's previously had a taste of 'normal' life.
I read and enjoyed 'Know Me' and while it was several months ago I don't remember Kira being quite so much of a bouncy sex addicted teenager, don't get me wrong I'm not complaining I loved her, every time she popped up she made me smile, she's the perfect opposite to Orion.

I truly enjoyed this book. Promise Me is a sweet and sexy love story between Gray, a hot biker and Promise, a young, abused woman who escapes from a polygamous cult. First time I have read a story about a cult and those parts of the story were pretty chilling. Creepy old men with many wives marrying young teenage girls and abusing them. Disgusting. But with the help of Gray, her cousin Rachel and the rest of the MC, Promise is able to recover and blossom into a strong woman. I have to admit this was not a raw or gritty biker book. More what I call bikers lite. But still a good read.

I hope the next book is Maddox.

I was after a woman on the run and got one. promise is a 21 yo graduate midwife. We didn’t see her do anything at this point with her degree because she had run away when it became obvious she was going to be beaten on the regular. The two nights with her new husband were traumatic and debilitating. She sees the hero Gray and decides she will ask for help as her cousin was connected with the MC.

Theplot was only about the cult and Promise new life on the outside. It was a decent book not your typical MC style.🙃

The beginning of this book was tough to read—it was raw, real, disgusting, and deeply saddening to witness what Promise had to endure before finding her saviour, Greyson.

Throughout the story, we see how Promise grows and overcomes the horrific abuse she suffered. This book had me hooked from the start, exposing the dark side of cult life and the suffering of the women within it. It also shows how Promise found her strength through the Defiants MC— how the men who may look rough and tough would do anything for the women they love.

Definitely a 5 star read & will be rereading!

Overall Rating: 4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

This is the next book in the Defiant Motorcycle Club by Cora Brent. It is a story that will move you, horrify you and at the same time have you say there are still good people in this world that care for others. While this is a story about an abusive religious cult and a MC, it is more about a remarkable love story that shows all things are possible when love is involved.

Our story begins with Promise Talbot a member of sadistic cult that claims to be religious! The women are given to the men in forced polygamous marriages that they have no say in. They are treated like owned like livestock and used to breed. She has been promised to an older man that already has wives. The only reason she has not escaped is the need to protect her younger sister from being given in marriage to one of these men. Promise did not know what to expect, but it wasn’t the rape and beating that almost killed her on her wedding night. She had to escape from this evil man before it was too late. When the opportunity came, Promise begged for help from a man that was part of a MC. He had the kindest eyes and she knew that he would keep her safe.

Grayson Mercado at one time had a future. He had everything planned, college and a life doing what he loved. Grayson was pulled into a situation that put an end to that future and he found himself serving time in jail for a crime he didn’t commit. While serving time Grayson meet Cas a member of the Defiant MC and they became friends. He became a member of the Defiant Motorcycle Club after he was released and found his place there. When Gray saw the beautiful woman in the restaurant and she begged him to help her, he knew he would do anything to help her. Will Gray and Promise find healing within each other’s arms? Can Gray protect Promise from her past? Read this book and you will not be disappoint with the story that unfolds on each page.

Hero: Grayson Mercado 4.5 stars
Heroine: Promise Talbot 4.5 stars
Plot: 4.5 stars
Steam Level: 4.5 stars
Cliffhanger: Yes

Would I recommend this book: Yes! This book hits some many hot spots for a reader including a really hot alpha male and lots of sizzling sex. It involves an MC that helps an abused woman find sanctuary and freedom from her abusers. The love that grows between the two main characters is both beautiful and healing.

Would I recommend this author: Yes! Ms. Brent has created a series that touches the heart and soul of her readers. This is an amazing author that has created not only characters that live on the pages but a plot that moves you!

A solid 4.5 stars for a kinder, gentler biker romance with a religious fanatic, psycho twist.
Yes, I do love to read harder, grittier books, especially when there is a biker involved but sometimes it is a welcome respite to indulge in a sweeter love story but still containing a hard edge. I had just recenty read a biker book dealing with a polygamist cult (It Ain't Me Babe) and while this at first seemed to be very similar and reminiscent of that book, Promise Me was much less vile and the club involved was a smaller more laid back group of bikers who ran a bar and just lived more or less like normal citizens. The main similarity being that one of the abused young women forced to marry a cult leader manages to escape the clutches of the evil man and is rescued by a biker and taken into their protective custody. In this book Promise is barely alive after a severe rape and beating by her husband and runs into Grayson, a biker in a fast food restaurant. Luck would have it that her cousin Rachel is involved with his club, so of course he takes her away on the back of his bike. Gray is a good man (even though he claims not to be) and pretty soon it is obvious to everyone around them that they are meant to be together.
Promise begins a new life in freedom, but living in fear that her husband and the crazy cult she escaped, will come looking for her...not to mention the fact that she left her little sister behind and she is also at risk for forced marriage and abuse. As bad as this book sounds, the treatment of woman is not as bad as what I have read in many other MC books. Apart from the rape and beatings Promise endures at the hands of her husband, there is not any of that in the biker group. This book portrays life and love in a smaller club with not that much description of club whores and criminal activity, but more family type stories and monogamous relationships. I really enjoyed this enough to buy the next book which is Maddox's story (one of the gruffer members of the group).

A cool addition...most books have a music playlist at the end of the book...this one has dessert recipes that were made by the women during the course of the story...and they look good enough I might make them =)

Great first half. The topic was interesting and the horrors Promise survived well written. I liked her character so much and couldn't wait to read the next chapter. I also liked Gray a lot.
Somewhere at the 50% mark Promise and Gray had sex, after that it wasn't the same. Suddenly they were having sex all the time. And Promise acted like she had years of experience. There was no hesitation, no fumbling, no instructions from Gray. How was it possible? Maybe there's something wrong with me. I actually like biker romances and I'm always looking for the next great story, but the speed the main characters hit the bedroom is killing me. And how these bikers turn girls with little experience into "everything-goes party girls" is just so out of reality.
After everything Promise went through, is it possible to recover in 24 days and have a healthy relationship with a man? I don't think so.

The storyline was weak and entrench with unrealistic characters however; had great potential. The book was hurried to compact several thing going on while confusing the reader and losing the true plot. The main heroine, Promise, is supposed to be a recent graduate from college, but the way she is written she could be only a preteen. She eluded a trifling attitude toward her own life and tendencies to portray insecurities. The main hero Grayson, is one dimensional and uninteresting. Sure he's describe as a hot looking guy , but he has no real character development. His motivation for his interest in the heroine is rather laughable. The plot is spotty and unfinished. Plot holes abound. It feels like the author rushes through and skips over things that should be important. Then slogs and drags out unimportant details. I have read many MC novel and this one did not fit the description.

ugh, it was OK. Just OK. The story idea was an interesting one & the beginning of the book was good, quite dark and angsty but then it kinda fell face first into a hole of over the topness. All the "I love you's" every page & the sex every other page, just turned the book into silliness. I couldn't stop rolling my eyes. There were also a few grammar mistakes - missing words, wrong words being used and even double words in some sentences. While this wasn't a deal breaker for me, it did make me laugh a few times trying to make sense of what was suppose to be written.

Promise Me is the second book in the Defiant MC book series by Cora Brent. This full length book was a great follow up to the first book in this series. This stand alone book had a solid storyline with lots of unexpected twist and turns. The characters were raw and gritty and had smoking hot chemistry. Loved the polygamy spin to this storyline I think it definitely gave this MC book a different feel. Loved it!!

I really liked this book

This was a good MC read especially if you don't like bikers and violence being too graphically depicted. The love story between Defiant MC member Grayson and Promise, a young runaway from an abusive religious sect was sweet. The last third of the book seemed a bit rushed, but all in all, I enjoyed it. I'd definitely read more from Cora Brent.

Promise Me is what I consider a guilty pleasure MC/biker book. It wasn't the best of the best but it was an enjoyable read. I love a damsel in distress story. Add in a hot biker, some crazy cult bad guys...and it worked for what it was. A middle of the road 3.25-3.50 STAR READ.
