Haunting sequence of poems, not about war, but about its devastating ripple effects. The poems are about the fall of Ly Loc, a nobleman, after the Vietnam War. The poems are from different perspectives including Ly Loc's, his first lover, his servant, and that of his wives. The poems are about people and how they suffer, and although the they work together as a large, cohesive narrative most of them have the integrity to stand on their own.

I have so enjoyed reading this book! It's an amazing story filled with love, pain, and healing. I highly recommend it!
