Happy Independence Day is the first book I've read by Michael Rupured. I'm looking forward to more. Especially to After Christmas Eve which isn't really a prequel to this one, more of a co-story. It is the in-depth back-story to Happy Independence Day. The story takes place in New York City one steamy June weekend in 1969. The main character of the book? One Stonewall Inn. Yes, that Stonewall Inn.

This is both a bit of a romance and a much longer lesson in history. According to Wikipedia (I know, I know, so sue me) back in 1969 there was a riot at the Stonewall Inn by members of the gay community against police in a raid in Greenwhich Village. This is that story. Sort of. Michael Rupured wrote a sort of prequel called After Christmas Eve which goes into the event in more detail. In this story we see more of the back scenes and secondary characters.

“When the moon is in the seventh house and Jupiter aligns with Mars… then peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars... This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius... harmony and understanding; sympathy and trust abounding; no more falsehoods or derisions, golden living dreams of visions; mystic crystal revelation and the mind's true liberation.” ~ Fifth Dimension 'Hair' Aquarius

Independent reviewer for Divine Magazine, I was gifted my copy of this book.

Terrence is a law student, and wants to change the world. Visiting bars that openly serve gay men leads him to meet Cameron. But Cameron runs from Terrence every chance he gets. Until Cameron meets a lady who whoops him upside the head and makes him see who he really is. He just needs to be with Terrence one time, before he disappears.

This is the second in the Philip Potter series I've read, but it is book 3, I think. Th

Even though this is a standalone story I highly suggest you read No Good Deed first so you understand who Terence and Phillip and Harold are. I truly think you will enjoy the story much better. I began the story then went back at about 20 percent and read No Good Dea and I really understood things so much more.

Phillip Potter took Terrence under his wing two years ago and now Terence is in college in New York studying law. He has made a few friends in the gay world, one of them a fancy Transgende

Well...a history lesson is not what I expected when buying this book but that's pretty much all this story is. While it isn't factual history, it is based on elements of the gay movement to equality and other elements of actual history. Also, somewhere in the decision to purchase said book, I missed the time frame the story takes place in. If I'd realized either or both of these things, I would never have bought the book. While I like history, I hate stories taking place in the 60's and 70's. Th ...more

Many typos. A word or two left off the end of chapter 5. After this, the action starts heating up around Stonewall and I never noticed any further typos. What started off slow became a whirlwind of action. I really felt the riots of Stonewall come to life. A little tidy at the end, but not a complete set of bows. Would love a sequel to follow how gay liberation affects everyone's li

I had more than a passing familiarity with the Stonewall Riots before reading this book (I studied them in college), so I was mostly surprised, in a good way, with how accurately and seamlessly Michael Rupured integrated them into his story. The chapters set during the riot(s) are the book's strongest (ingenious to have Kelsey be the lesbian who incites everyone to action by being the still-unidentified victim to yell, "Do something!"), but the recurring theme in his Holiday Series of a kind of ...more

This author gives me everything I want in a book: smooth flowing writing, unforgettable characters and sex that enhances a strong story. This isn't a sweet sugary book but it does have a happy ending. The blurb doesn't do the book justice.

For as long as he can remember, Michael Rupured has loved to write. Before he learned the alphabet, he filled page after page with rows of tiny little circles he now believes were his first novels and has been writing ever since. He grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, where he came out as a gay man at the age of twenty-one in the late 1970s. He considers it a miracle that he survived his wild and reck ...more
