A demon's job is to corrupt as many souls as possible. But for Jaeryth, there's only one soul, one woman he's interested in: Logan Frost. When his obsession with her causes his performance to suffer, the Prince of Hell strips him of his demonic status and sends him to the mortal realm on one last mission -- turn Logan to Hell's side, or kill her. An eternity of torture awaits him if he fails.
Logan, a struggling singer and recovering meth addict fresh out of rehab, has no idea she's destined to change the world. She only wants to survive. But she's hallucinating black-eyed figures that no one else sees -- and when she meets Jaeryth, who can see them too, her instant attraction deepens. Still, something isn't right about this gorgeous stranger who's never tried chocolate and doesn't seem to know how pants work.
As the legions of Hell fight harder to destroy Logan before her powerful influence spreads, Jaeryth will be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice. Meanwhile, Logan faces an impossible choice: save millions of souls... or the one who matters to her most.
Unfortunately I didn't love this book as much as I did the author's DeathSpeaker Codex series. I think this is one of her earlier stories so there's a few snags that made me not enjoy the book as much. For instance, the insta love - it's a short book but the relationship could have done with slowing down a bit. It was also kind of cheesy in parts, especially when the MC sings My Immortal by Evanescence in a diner. I just didn't believe that would actually happen in real life. However, I loved reading about angels and demons and hell and loved Daan, he was great! It's a very easy and fun book to read, it took me just a few hours. I'm definitely going to read more by the author but only because I recommend her main ongoing series so highly.
Summary - Jaeryth is a "demon" who has been trying to corrupt Logan (heroine) into all things sinful for several years. He wants to lure her to the dark side (so to speak) so he can gain major credit from his superiors for gaining for hell her "special" soul !!.
With me so far ?.......
At this point Jaeryth does not try to appear in corporeal form to corrupt Logan, he mereley whispers his suggestions "speaking" to Logan in her mind. Nothing like that to help think your insane !!.
Logan mean while is trying to piece her life together, and as part of her new plan to "get it together" starts to refuse to listen to "the voice". This does not go over well at all with Jaeryth !. He decided then to venture forth into the human realm to claim her soul once and for all. Sin time baby......
The story then follows Jaeryth and Logan's interactions, from their first "chance" meeting and attraction (well chance meet on Logan's part), then evolving into friendship and finally to lovers *sigh*.
I enjoyed the story and it was written from duel POV's. I love those !.
The story plot is fairly light and yes some might say predictable, but if your IQ's rocking 130 then aren't most story lines ?.
Any-way......I found the story a sweet paranormal romance and it ended on a HEA ! Works for me. Ticked my happy box !!!
I would say this book floats from a 3 to a 3.5 stars for me.
I'm absolutely in love with Jaeryth. He is a demon and he was assigned by the Prince of hell (Samuel) to corrupt Logan or to kill her. If he did not corrupt or kill her he will suffer for eternity. The plot is well written I just couldn't more fall in love with it then what I am. Logan and Jaeryth make a good couple. You should give it a try you will not regret it.
I was impressed with the author's urban fantasy series and picked this up thinking this will be in similar lines. Unfortunately, it turned out to be largely a romance ( the book I read had a different cover) The book was still enjoyable and pretty well written. The main characters could have been a little better formulated, but that's just my opinion. A good attempt.
There is nothing wrong with the writing, it is just to slow moving. It did not keep my attention. But it kind of reads like a supernatural episode. But still gave it 1 star. Maybe in the future, her writing will get better and she will grab readers attention quicker.
This is one of those books that caught my eye but I had a few reservations about, however, I absolutely loved it. The plot can seem a bit flimsy from the synopsis but the universe, characters and writing prove it to be a very witty, interesting and fun read.
