This is a fabulous book. And my favourite part is that it grows on you and gets better and better as you get to know and appreciate the authors personality. The book is well written and well researched filled with history, interesting stories and encounters. There is an overlying environmental theme here but not radical A great read!
What a shockingly delightful book. To travel along the river with Ben Bachman is such a treat. He explains with beautiful language and extremely apt comparisons that makes you feel like you’re there with him. And then as you travel he’s also the best tour guide you’ve ever had, telling stories of the railroads, bridges, fish, history, ecology, like what doesn’t this man know.
Usually people canoe the Connecticut with the flow of the river -- makes sense and it's an easier paddle. This gentleman goes UP the Connecticut and reports on day-to-day doings, notes on the scenery/people/history of the river. Another dreamer who made his wish reality. Liked it alot and would add to my List of Dream To Dos.....
