All that’s required to ignite a revolution is a single spark rising.

Two hundred years after the cataclysm that annihilated fossil fuels, Sparks keep electricity flowing through their control of energy-giving Dust. The Council of Nine rebuilt civilization on the backs of Sparks, offering citizens a comfortable life in a relo-city in exchange for power, particularly over the

I currently envision it as five core books, although I do aim to put out short collections of related short stories between novels, featuring secondary characters from the novels. The first, Ignition Point, is already out.

However, while each novel may be part of an overarching sequence featuring the same characters and their growth and trials, each novel will have its own story arc and stand alone. I have no plans at this time for cliffhangers that will make you throw the book across the room and scream in frustration. *wink*(less)

This book was so delicious, I inhaled it. I've found with many books of this genre (don't get me wrong, this book can be put into so many categories), its confusing at best to try and puzzle out the dystopian background, and as such tends to be a tedious beginning. There was nothing even remotely tedious about this book. The premise of this book was clear within the first chapter or two, and from there was fleshed out into full background. The main character is someone I would love to meet.

This book grabbed me. It grabbed me in such a way that I blew off dinner (the family had pizza that night) just so I could finish it. The characters were well developed, especially the main two, the pacing was perfect, and even though it’s dystopian, it didn’t feel heavy.
I laughed and cried as I went on this journey with Lena and Reyes. Lena, a powerful female Spark that “doesn’t exist” faces off against Reyes, a Council Agent. Immediately you feel the tension between them and it con

Spark Rising is the first novel in the Progenitor Saga by Kate Corcino. Spark Rising is a skillfully written tale set in the future on a post-apocalyptic earth. New advance humans were created called, “Sparks”. These people have varying degrees of power and are able to control and manipulate, “Dust”, basically microscopic machine like beings that can create and affect energy in many different ways. The strongest Spark boys are trained and put to work powering the cities, which are controlled by ...more

I’m not sure if I understand all the finer details of this book, but I will try to explain it.This was an original take on Dystopia.
As far as I can tell, there are these nanobots called dust who can do all sorts of miraculous things, and special people called sparks have the ability to control the dust.

This was such a fun read. Spark Rising was full of adventure, love, family and female power. Although this is part of a series, this book was complete and did not leave me hanging. I loved Lena and her take-no-sh*t attitude. She is a woman who relies on herself and a bit of dust to get by.

This book was set in a post-apocalyptic future where some people, known as sparks, are born with ability to generate electrical charges. The sparks use Dust to generate electricity to power their world. These

Unfortunately while the writing is technically competent and the world-building is phenomenal, I've been attempting to read this quite intense and heavy tome for over a month now and I have absolutely no desire to finish. I find myself dreading going back to this book.

While the concept is quite intriguing, I have absolutely zero connection to any character which makes it a chore to continue as I absolutely do not care one way or another what happens next or what the final outcome will

Spark Rising had been beckoning to me from my TBR for nearly the entire summer when I finally cracked the electronic spine on my kindle copy and started reading. I was immediately drawn into a world so complex, so well developed, that I lost track of the one I existed in. I found myself in the desert along side a stubborn and dangerous Spark; a girl hell-bent on survival. The arroyos surrounded me as I hid in the shadows and watched the enemy close in on her. I cheered for her as she defied that ...more

*I received this book in exchange for an honest review.*

Excellent storytelling, engaging action, and well developed characters.
Alex and Lena have awesome chemistry from the beginning.
Lena is a strong female character bat double agent Alex Reyes is my favorite. ;) ;)

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and looking forward to following one.
The ending leaves you for wanting more (not really a cliffhanger ).
I would recommend Spark Rising to fans of post-apocalyptic, dystopian, romance novels.

This book is dystopia with a very urban fantasy feel: badass woman main character kicking ass and taking names, more action than style or substance, and a hefty dose of romance. I liked it, and I actually think I'll enjoy book two more than this one, based on the direction the plot seemed to be heading. It reminded me a little of The Darkest Minds, but for an older audience. This was fun, fast, furious fluff and I'm looking forward to more.

Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Honestly, this book made me so happy. It's a New Adult dystopian/sci-fi, which you don't get much of anyway, but then it goes and decimates some of those awful NA tropes that make me so hesitant about reading them.

Lena is a strong female character. And I kind of hate that phrase, because it's so overused and misused, but it's true. She is well-written, flawed yet likeable, and has a great character arc. She starts off

Spark Rising by Kate Corcino is brilliant because it is so unique and fresh, I have honestly never read anything like it before! It has a post-apocalyptic / dystopian feel as it features an imperfect society that recently rebuild itself after a disaster that wiped out large numbers of the population. The “Sparks” then mix together both paranormal and sci-fi elements. Finally to top it off, there are very strong romanc

A unique dystopian world, a very powerful woman forced to confront her past and forge a new future, a revolution in the making, grief, passion, secrets and lies.

Lena has been on her own, hiding, surviving, haunted by her past. It isn't until the day her secrets are uncovered that she's forced to decide what to do with all the power she has. I liked Lena as a heroine, she's strong, imperfect, and confronted by grief, anger and betrayal she finds a way to use all of those things to her benefit. S

Wow… is the next book finished yet? And when will the movies be coming out?

It’s not often that I comment on a book but Spark Rising deserves it. I read a book a week (usually more if I’m reading novellas). I have read many dystopian/post-apocalyptic books and quite frankly many of them have themes, characters, etc. that all seem very similar. That is NOT the case with this book.

It was longer than what I was expecting (which was GREAT – full length novel) – characters are well developed; story

Five big stars!

Spark Rising is one of the most exciting and imaginative Science Fiction Romance novels I've read it quite some time! I loved getting immersed in this stark, post-apocalyptic world where the heroine, Lena, is a rare and dangerous renegade because of her power to control "Dust." Just what Dust is and what she can do with it is key to discovering this complex future society.

But it's not all about Lena. The hero, Alex, is fascinating as a complex and a powerful presence, the perfec

When I made my request on netgalley for this book I have to say I don't really know why, in the end the book is quite nice and I liked my reading.

The first thing I noticed is the universe, which is rich, it is clearly a futuristic world, I do not want to give too much information, but some humans have the ability to act with the Dust and to create a kind of energy, a current. Lena is one of those people, and when an agent named Alex manage to find her, her quiet life will become more complicated

I received an ARC for an honest review, and while I never give too much away in my reviews, I need to tell you this; this book isn't like anything I have read in a while, and you absolutely need to check it out. It took me a while to get this review up but I finished it in December, and I've actually re-read it a couple of times since then. Kate, you did a great job.

An epic post-apocalyptic romance adventure that leaves all others in the dust, and doesn't let up on the tension from start to finish. Fantastic world building, a complex, multi-layered plot, and characters your hearts will bleed for. Can't wait for the next book!

What I Thought

I am, and will always remain a huge fan of dystopian reads. I like the way they portray the future, so desolate, yet something in our world has the ability to stand up and fight. In this excellent, YA, read we find ourselves in a barren future, where the world has run out of fossil fuels. The people depend on a new breed, called Sparks, who use their powers to control the energy-giving dust. However, just as we could expect, the people who have these powers aren't treated well, the
