He was determined to put down everything he knows about traveling, and wi

I like reading travel books while I'm traveling, in the breaks from walking, while riding on a bus/train/plane. It fits my state of mind I guess.
This is how it looks. A nice calm bench in a random park somewhere where I've never been...

So, if I may criticize a bit. I've had the intention for this book to last for 10 days of travel. I've read it in 3 days. Then I had to go buy another book even tho my backpack was already overcrowded. The book was too catchy and too fluently written. ;)

Also, at a

it's a fair first attempt by a twenty-something guy to describe his travels. it's full of all the expected cliche's (hitchhiking, booz, drugs, the 'alternative' oh so mainstream lifestyle of an average couchsurfer), without any real climax or end. if you're looking for depth or meaning in a story, the author is constantly convincing you of the relativistic nature of world, truth, meaning, which makes it hard to connect and feel like you've read anything profound or real in the book/his travels. ...more

It's a beautiful, simply written book.

When I started it, I didn't know what to expect. I know Tomas from some nice days when he stayed at my place in Portugal, but I never knew about his skills as a writer.
What I saw here was a naive writer full of potential, with a massive heart, and even bigger balls to do what he did.
I remember him telling me that he was about my age, and still he had done nothing with his life when comparing it to mine as I had 3 degrees. Still I think it's the other way aro

I've read a few travel-related books and ended up being disappointed, but this book is different. Tom wrote literally everything - good and bad part of his stories, his feelings, the lessons he got - and I love his honesty. I always believe that by telling the whole story we can get the most of it, and he proved it. And this book is also easy to read, I enjoyed reading it and I could have finished it in a day.
The only reason I did not give a 5-star rating was simply because I did not feel the pe

I wanted to read this book after watching the author talking about his experience in traveling with almost no money on TEDx Talks,

Certainly, his way of traveling is not suitable for me but reading about his experience might be fun.

Anyway, I don’t know if the book available in Egypt or not,
maybe I will do some searches.

I read the book in one and a half day. It's the kind of book that would immediately attract my attention; there is something just so alluring about travel. Mr. Perko, in form of a travel diary, tells us how he became a fan of travelling, a fan of that close connection with people you meet, places you visit, experiences you get to live in those fleeting moments in foreign countries. We get to know him as a person, and see him changing his perspective on life - from being a dinamo fan, a stock bro ...more

This was the first travel related book I've read in my entire life. And it was a bingo!!! I couldn't pick a better book to read to be my first one travel related. Easy to read, a powerfull message in the end. I love the writing style and the direction of how the story is told and in which way is envolving. At the end it has forced me to look at my life and myself as a person and showed me that people are just people no mather where, on which end of the world they live, which gender, skin color o ...more

I am at the very end of this book but it is one of those rare books that i dont need to finish it to rate it and make a review. I am literally shaking my hands while reading it. I know its one of those "God given books" for me because it just fits me so well. It shaked me from the inside. Im already in deep planing, whole daydreaming about it, two more persons just came in my life within all that, and now im few weeks ahead of something that i believe is gonna change my life forever. I got this book in the perfect moment, when I was overload with my studies and work. I was working in an international organization and I met a lot of people from all over the world and got my self some good friends with whom, I can say, I created a small multicultural family. But, soon they left. So I was left with my studies and work again. I was feeling like a robot. Then, thanks to God and my good friend Korado, Tomislav came to Visnjan and I got myself this awesome book that helped me not t ...more

I read Tomislav book and it is a master piece:). I do not exaggerate:), it is his view how to describe life on road. Once when you try to live on that kind of way, it will just suck you in and you will like it or you will hate it and move away from this kind of live. I hope that this book will encourage other people to try to do same things that Tomislav did and even that it looks so hard and impossible to do the same. You just need to do first step and than doors will open wide:). I read book i ...more

I can't recommend this book enough.

The story was beautifully written and flows easily from one day (chapter) to the next. The authors glass half full perspective is also a refreshing addition to the story. His observations throughout his travels will have you questioning your own perspectives on life as well as peoples every day habits. He hits some tough topics and will force you to see perceive them in an unbiased view. All these things and more really make the book a good read.

Mixed feelings about this one.
It was a good book in the sense that it is well written. It's a very honest and open autobiography.
But, as a traveler, I expected more travel stories. Tomislav travels low budget and experiences a whole different part of couchsurfing than we ever have. Because he didn't share any point of interest with the way we travel, it was hard to find it a good book. That changed when he went to Asia. The culture difference is big with Europe and he encountered a more intresti

Some genuine storytelling and emotions were put into writing this book and this is what every reader will be able to recognise. As soon as I saw this project on a crowdfunding platform, I instantly wanted to participate in publishing Tomislav's story; because I love to travel in such manner by myself (CS), and out of sheer curiosity. I was not disappointed with this title, I hope that it will reach as many people out there who want to be inspired to travel in such way, but are looking for that e ...more

I found Tomislav's story very entertaining. It was not just a great source of humour and inspiration, but also a well-told story of a young man, whose lifestyle has been transformed by travel. Tomislav is a very likeable narrator. I particularly enjoyed the way in which he conveys how his friends (mostly attractive women) and the different people he met (gay hosts, random drivers with great stories, prostitutes, hippies, drug dealers and police officers) around Europe caused him to reconsider hi ...more

One of the best travel books available in the market. The book is about how the author hitchhikes across the globe immersing himself in different cultures, meeting new people and imbibing incredible experiences. The author tells how the 2008 financial crisis led his to his 1st hitchhiking travel experience and slowly how he made it a way of living. The author takes us through his journey explaining how he grew as a person through these experiences daily undergoing plethora of emotions and learni ...more

I was really looking forward to reading this book, as I thought it sounded like an interesting story that could open a lot of people's minds to hitchhiking and couchsurfing. Unfortunately I thought it depicted these two 'communities' in a highly stigmatising and bad way, so as all people who pick up hitchhikers and use couchsurfing constantly drink beer or smoke weed or are in it to get laid.
Very disappointing book, I must admit. I already bought volume 2 as well, but am not sure if I dare read

This guy and this book will become your favourite provided you are someone who wants to get lost from your normal routines and take a break. Well you will get to know the wonder of hitchhiking through this book and also the kind of image we have, we are hammered to have by means of the media about the world will also change . For a moment you cry or weep inside because you can't be like this guy. An absolute Stunner.

Awesome story about how the author quit his job and decided to travel the world with little to no money. Often relying on the generosity of others through couch surfing and hitch hiking. Some amazing and interesting stories and I loved the positive narrative even when the author was faced with difficult situations he could see the bright side. Highly recommended

One of the most inspiring reads when it comes to travel-books! Tomislav does not only describe the right spirit but he made people join his travel-adventures by reading his words. His Writings inspired me to explore the world on my own which in it self was a life-changing experience which I would have not achieved without Tomislav Perkos´ books.

Dnf @ 17%. I'd already been irked by his "I'm 22 years old and so damn smart, if I can take a sip of Coke I can change the world" pretentious bullshit, but I was done at the part when he talks to God and pretends he's God answering him back. Nope, I'm out.

This accounts an incredible journey of a man from being a unhappy stockbroker to a happy world traveller, who travelled the world with nearly no money to begin with, dependent solely on hitchhiking! This kind of writing needs years of experience to gather. It also uplifts people mentally to reach out for the corners of the world and find what's out there for themselves, for the perception that we may have about this world may not be completely true.
