She could give him everything except the one thing he wanted—A child.

— Lorhainne Eckhart, is courageous to write a story with a "good guy" who is so despicable in his behavior. That does not ruin the story, though; if anything, it adds realism and volume to the plot.” –Susan

Recommends it for: soapy trainwreck lovers?
I'm waffling on my rating. On one hand, this was soapy and the H is a JERK!!! On the other hand, I can't stop thinking about it and want to read the next one because I have to find out what happens with the "surrogate" son the h doesn't know about, the surrogate who is in love with Neil, and the last comment about his feelings for surrogate - what???? If it wasn't for that one line, I might not have given this one another thought - but I want to see the weasel Neil wriggle out of this one when i ...more

How Neil stayed and help Candy thru the storm. All the lies that Candy heard her father talked about Neil and none of them were true. They finally worked thru their problems of the land that she owned and that Neil wanted. Then the problem with the woman who carried the baby for Neil and wanted Neil for herself. Finally Neil and Candy got the children they wanted.

I was thinking a lot what to write. I probably made a mistake and started to read from this second book in the instalment but in this book we can see Neil and Candy how they plan to start a family. With Candy's health issues she is not able to have her own children and that is where problems between starts. Neil is getting his baby with a surrogate mother.
I really hope things will turn out good in the next instalment of the serial.

Knew it would be good

Knew it would be good

am excited to get this new book. and was not disappoint. I knew would be very good, but not very happy with Neil. How can you love someone as much as he is supposed to love Candy and be so dence or is it self centered. and still didn't learn at the end . lies in a marriage are very hard to overcome.

'The Price of Love' picks up seamlessly with Candy and Neil's story from where 'The Wedding' ended. Neil is desperate for a child of his own and Candy, as his wife, is unable to help him. Even though Neil had promised Candy that they would discuss all their options in regards to obtaining a child of their own, in the end he changes all the rules. I have never disliked a main character more than I did Neil. He never acted as a loving husband toward Candy in his endeavor to obtain a child. There a ...more

Another outstanding book from Lorhainne Eckhart in the Friessen family series. This book had everything and what a book it was. So much emotion and I was totally devastated for Candy with everything Neil put her through. I did not want this book to end and I just kept on reading until I had it finished. The tears just kept on rolling down as I read this book and I was left so emotionally drained at the end but in a very good way. I need more of these 2 and I just hope that Candy is very forgivin ...more

I am still trying to absorb what I just heard in this audible story!
Neal Friessen is a husband with an extreme lack of communication with his wife Candy. She feels misunderstood and lacking. She can’t give him the one thing he wants most a baby. He finds away and in his eagerness makes a judgement call that nearly destroys there marriage. It takes a stranger and a young girl to make him see what an s.o.b. he was, or still is!
Valerie Gilbert did an amazing job bringing the Friessens to life in bo
This was a very emotional read! The Friessen men can be very exasperating at times and Neil really was this time. He and Candy are having to come to terms that they can't have children naturally, at least not together. The journey is quite a rollercoaster ride. You go between intense love to abject fear to anger and incredible sadness. A great addition to the series but also one that leaves lots of loose ends hanging too. This family is leaving me with gray hairs worrying about all of them and t ...more

This book was mind blowing! Candy is a strong woman who upheld her principles regardless of her husband's decision and how he handled things. He was self centered and everything had to be his way. In the end he still railroaded his wife and the way the story ends is troubling. I can't imagine everything Candy endured and not have issues with what was happening in her marriage. I would love to see how this story plays out! I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review. ...more

1.5 ⭐️s

This is a series that a reader has to read every book. This book is not a stand-alone and basically there is a mini cliffhanger. It would be nice if the author had a to be read in series order listed somewhere at the end of nook or on her amazon or goodreads page to save the reader time.

Oh and biggest doormat heroine.

I'd kill him!!!!

I thought the Outsider series before this one was emotional, but it just keeps building! It was hard finishing this book because i was SOOOOO angry at lying, controlling Neil!!!! Furious!!! It will be interesting to see how this plays out in later books well written to where you feel the pain.

Neil Friessen wants a baby of his blood, but Candy can't have children. So Neil goes ahead and organises a surrogate without telling Candy all of the details. Then he moves Maria into the house when she is pregnant, again without discussing it with Candy. Secrets. Lots of secrets. A surrogate. A pregnancy. An orphanage. A troubled little girl. And a huge secret. ...more

I loved this story but at this point I think I hate Neil. If I was Candy I don't know if I could ever forgive the lies and betrayal. This is what happens when you get completely immersed into a story.

I am not a huge fan of romance but I am a huge fan of this authors romance writing.
With a real, plausible story as the plot the romance part, although not small is used to further the plot, it is never THE plot.
I listened to this on audible, narrated by Valerie Gilbert and I was very impresses with the narrator as well. Me Gilbert captured the main protagonist so perfectly.

A short read but one worth reading.

This is the very first book I have read in this series. I look forward to reading others that accompany it. Many of this authors titles can be found on Audible.
The story has a lot of intrigue, romance, and many twists and turns. I hope you all enjoy it.

This series is so full of emotions, it is fantastic. In this book Neil and Candy have many obstacles to overcome and you must give Candy credit for being as strong as she was. A story that shows what family really means to a childless couple.
