I really enjoyed this book! I love the use of the elements as powers, it reminds me of Avatar but a much different read. The struggle inside Ellis was very well written. All the characters were written with great care and the plot was fascinating and intriguing. I could not put it down and am looking forward to reading other works by this author.

Twilight: a paramilitary force dedicated and independent of governmental agencies, churches and monarchies.

Liam is a Urukou, a general student, and one of the six fighting races of the Juhl galaxy. In a panic, gasping for each intake of air, he tells one of the Guardians, Ellis Lathmore, that Terrance McGowen was in trouble, and could possibly be killed. Ellis Lathmore was the youngest student of the Twilight Academy on Amerinth, a Guardian and an Earth Elemental. He knew what a powerful force T

Ellis Lathmore needs to discover his gift as an earth elemental while he is an (impartial) Guardian. His gift is described as an elemental gift buried inside like a sleeping monster caged for too long. The story opens up with action, and I was hooked. The story dives right into a difference of opinion over whether Terrance the metal Knight has instigated a fight or not. Ellis comes to the defense of Terrance when speaking to Master Kalen. The Academy is a place where I discovered new characters, ...more

Well written fantasy fiction with likeable characters and dangerous adventures. Ellis has progressed very rapidly to his current position in the Twilight society, but he seems to have a hard time making friends. He has a spotless reputation but his Earth Essence is building and he is finding it harder and harder to control himself. When he jumps off a building and heads into the jungle alone to look for a lost Knight the trouble begins, as well as the adventure. I really liked the fact that the ...more

Fans of the Nickelodeon animated series “Avatar” should enjoy Trial by Earth. This Christian fantasy is set at the Twilight Academy, where students who can control the elements of earth, air, fire and water hone their skills. This, the fourth book in the series, focuses on Ellis, a student with the singular ability to control earth. Rather than focus only on the destructive power of earthquakes that Ellis can unleash, the author also shows the healing power of this gift as Ellis struggles to tru ...more

Trial by Earth transports you to another dimension with characters and situations that stretch and stimulate the imagination. The intertwining of themes and the wonderful creation of this fascinating elemental world is so well contrived that you can see why this amazing book was three years in the planning and writing. A most impressive achievement and an open invitation to read the other books in Sara's Twilight Knights series - Trial by Fire, Trial by Water, Trial by Air.

A fast-paced fantasy about students with elemental powers, this story has the credibility and consistency to rank with the best of the genre. There's plenty of action, and the focus on hero Ellis' emotions swiftly draws you into his world. Most enjoyable.

Enjoyed the "elementals" and fast pace. Lot of action too, so that makes is a good fun read. If you like young adult books and movies, you'll love this!
