Star Trek: Alternate Original Series (Movies) Between what was and what will be stands James Tiberius Kirk, in all his fractured patchwork glory. Because saving the Federation was only the beginning. Eventual K/S

This started and largely remained an excellent fic, up to published novel expectations. It was on track to be a favorite of the year and a hands down 5 star and then the last 23% happened. It was like a completely different author had taken over. Previously well written charecters started doing things that made no sense, plot points were kinda questionable. But the good was so good. It really felt like watching an episode of the show/ movie remake. Although the end was far from the quality of the rest of the book I can't give this less than 4 stars. 5 for the vast majority of this (longgggg) fic 1.5 for the last "saga".
I admit I largely skimmed this fic despite its excellent writing. I was mostly in it for the good stuff which doesn't really happen until the end but is very well done. I want to read more by this author, they really do write well-just give us more of the mean n potatoes please!
4.5 * I loved the first part to bits, I was so amazed what the author came up with and it was beyond perfection - asbolute masterpiece. I loved what Jim represented in the story and how he was symbol of hope. The second part was also interesting, much darker, enjoyable, but unfortunately it transferred to the third part that I didnt enjoy as much as the previous parts and which felt like too psychologically cold. I also tought that the 2nd part would be build up for exciting 3rd part, but the final part was directed with mature storytelling that isnt always hit for me.
The writing style was very polished (I really had to pay attention to what I was reading), it was engaging like it would sing a poem to my soul. I wanted to cry when I read over beautifully written parts, because it was really wow.
This fanfic is high-quality one without doubts. It is just pitty that the third part didnt resonate within me much and it didnt leave such strong impression as the previous parts.
This is a brilliant case of 'Slow burn? Not if you read fast enough.' There are steps to building a story, a relationship, a success. So many struggles, so many brilliant scenes. This story kicks off right after the first reboot movie and it gives each character enough space to become brilliant. Re-read material worth bookmarking.
I’m completely new to any sort of FanFic and this was a fantastic way to step into it, I feel! The writing was so well done, and yes while the last part was a bit different, personally, I loved it! The characters and connections were developed so nicely and I absolutely felt pulled in to the missions and the crew and the love that this Enterprise “family” has For each other! The time frame was perfect to take place after the first Alternate Series movie and yes I hope this author keeps writing because I think this FanFic thing could be a new norm for me!
A brilliant story by a wonderful author, I've actually read Atlas at least three times now and each time I've loved the authors ability to thoroughly hold my attention, to creating such strong emotion within the story and its characters, that so holds ones attention intensely, throughout the intrigue, drama, hurt & comfort, love, relief and all else. The worlds and environments so well described you see the scene in your mind with such little effort. I felt the need to read the story through in it's entirety in one sitting, and had nearly managed that too, darn it. LOL.
Atlas's author writes so beautifully, allowing the reader to become so drawn into the world of Atlas, to feel as if you're right there amongst the characters the author so realistically writes and distractedKat is in my opinion, an amazing author. It's quite rare that I get so drawn into a story these days, so much so that I find myself unwilling to leave as I just do not wish to miss anything, or rather to delay my continuation of the written world these characters live in.
I very much admire the authors ability to write so well, you're immediately drawn into the story, its worlds, its characters, find oneself hating those villains as much as the heroes are and cheering the heroes on with joy with every success, hanging onto the edge of ones seat throughout the drama, danger and heart pounding with every hurt. Yet their ability to keep my attention regardless, I felt each emotion the characters felt and it was such a joyous read and I work I know I'll be very glad to read again, and that will be my fourth reading, lol.
Thank you Distracted Kat for such amazing work! I have to return and read more of your stories as soon as I have the time! Thanks again!
Been nearly 2 years since my last read of this book and I have to say it is still worth the five star rating. True, not every single nit has been picked with regard to spelling & proofreading -- a couple of stray letters and a misplaced or omitted word here or there still remain -- but the story still shines. The only thing that could possibly make it even better is another "Atlas" universe tale. Alas, it is most unlikely but I live in hope the author's muse may strike again.
listen Linda there was such great subtlety in how Spock showed his feelings for JimKirk in the first 3/4 of the story everytime my dense self picked up on it I giggled and sat up quickly to reread it and I loved McCoy grumbling about when he noticed too it had lots of fun action, great storylines like different seasons in a show a really great novel! but the ending not so much bad or unsatisfying as it was discordant with the characterizations in the BULK of story leading up to it why Linda?
