Pete the Cat’s guide to living a groovy life! Everyone's favorite cat shares his inspirational and feel-good quotes in Pete the Cat's Groovy Guide to Life—a fun graduation gift for groovy cats of all ages.
Pete's glass-half-full outlook on life shines through as he adds his fun take on well-known classics attributed to luminaries from Albert Einstein to Confucius to Abraham Lincoln to Shakespeare and more!
Fans of Pete the Cat will delight in this amusing look at quotes that are accompanied by Pete's witty responses and Pete illustrations by New York Times bestselling artist James Dean.
My last couple of Pete books have been a little disappointing. The Pete magic has been stretched pretty thin. Soooo...I told myself “No more Pete books!”. But I just can’t resist that cute, blue face. :)
Pete the Cat’s Groovy Guide to Life: Tips from a COOL CAT for Living an Awesome Life is not a story book. It’s a gift book. I’m not even sure it’s a kid’s gift book. Would children like this kind of read?
The pages are full of famous proverbs, quotes, and lines from authors, artists, leaders, and more. Lines that inspire laughter, hope, and action. Pete then translates these famous quotes into “Pete” speak. Like this...
“If music be the food of love, play on!” --William Shakespeare
Pete’s interpretation—“Keep strummin’!”
Very cute idea! But as the pages flipped on and on, the concept got old fast. The pictures and colors still made me smile though--Pete painting, strumming his guitar, and sailing. Bright yellows and blues brighten up the room and read.
One of my all-time favorite lines from Pablo Picasso is included. I love this line...
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”
And my favorite Pete page was this one. Haha...
“A man who carries a cat by the tail learns something he can learn in no other way.” –Mark Twain
“Dude, don’t even think about it!” --Pete
I still had some fun and smiles here with Pete, but this book is not worth buying for kids in my opinion. It would make a great teacher gift though. Definitely check it out at your local Library first.
What an awesome little book for children! Pete the Cat walks you through a collection of his favorite inspirational quotes. Life coaching quotes come from Abraham Lincoln, Confucius, Thomas Edison and many more! A quick little read perfect for an after school pep talk, or a short read before your little one drops off to sleep at night!
To be honest, I could use a little inspiration myself once in awhile, but this would make a great birthday gift for a 5 to 9 year old!
A simple sweet and straight to the point guide on optimism, kindness and finding joy in life mixing inspiring quotes and gentle life lessons. Pete The Cat could be seen as sort of the complete flip-side of Grumpy Cat (who I also think is awesome.)
Pete the Cat takes some pretty awesome inspirational quotes and puts his own spin on them. The way to a happier day may just be through this cute cat’s tips. Pete reminds us that you are as happy as you want to be, and Pete is one happy, cool cat.
I came in set to judge this book harshly, but apparently I'm a sucker for a good collection of quotes. My favorites:
Thomas Edison-"Opportunity is missed by most people because it comes dressed in overalls and looks like work" and "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."
Dalai Lama XIV-"Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible."
Better than I expected it to be. Basically it takes wise words from everyone from Einstein to Plato and breaks it down simply for children so both adults and kids can enjoy at the same time.
This book has quotes about life written by famous people such as Helen Keller and Thomas Edison. Pete the cat shares his outlook on life by adding his take on these well-known quotes! The book reminds you to be kind, be happy, chill out and go with the flow, and to remember that every day is a good day because you are in it.
This book is wonderful! It is always nice to be reminded to look for the good in each day, that life can be tough but we are tougher, and to work hard because amazing things can happy. I enjoyed the fun illustrations!
This could be used in a classroom to teach children to find the good in each and every day, to be happy, to be kind to each other, to work hard for what you want, and nothing is impossible! This is a great book for children learning how to live a full and wonderful life. I would highly recommend this book!
In this book Pete takes many inspirational quotes that we have all heard and puts them into his own words. He simplifies them and says what they mean in his eyes. On every page there is a famous quote by people like Thomas Edison, Pablo Picasso and many others. Pete takes their words and puts his own spin on them. I really enjoyed this book. First because it is fully of many inspiring, inspirational quotes that are great motivation, but I really love it because the author takes these quotes and has Pete simplify them, something that may seem a little confusing to a younger student is simplified and spoken by Pete. The illustration throughout the book is also so fun, and it all relates to the quotes. I would definitely recommend this book. This book could be used as a fun activity with students by allowing them to put the quote in their own words just like Pete does.
Summary: In this book Pete talks gives a different quote on each page to explain how live a great life. These quotes are used by famous people that had an influence on society. After the quotes Pete the cat states a sentence simplifying the quote. There are pictures on each page showing Pete doing something that would be considered difficult like working hard or playing sports, the quotes are supported by the pictures. A class activity that could be done with older children is having a list of the quotes and names of the people who said them, they could match which quote was said by which person.
Pete the cat shares some really great quotes and then puts them into his own words. The illustrations are colorful, the quotes are nicely spaced, and Pete's paraphrasing of the quotes is often funny. This could be a story to use to begin learning about what quotes are, quotation marks, the importance of giving credit to others for their words and wisdom, etc. It could also be a good place to start as a mentor text with using quotes to inspire writing, or it could even be a great discussion starter about life and living your best life.
This book is perfect for kids (and adults, too) of all ages! The wit and wisdom from Pete, along with numerous celebrities from all walks of life, is something that can brighten anyone’s day. It’s a great book for kids... a perfect coffee table book... and a wonderful gift for anyone who could use some cheering up and positivity. Keep on groovin’, Pete!
this book is actually pretty good - the 4th star for including a famous quote by hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, followed by a quote by this week's HP lesson subject, Henry Ford. I like Pete's take on the quotes.
An awkward book to read to a preschooler. Each page has a famous quote that is interpreted by Pete the Cat. As an adult, I liked all the quotes, but since I was reading them to my 4 year-old, most went over his head.
My little sisters absolutely love this book. Also, I think that it is really great that they can learn famous quotes and a little about famous people while having the fun of this book. Definitely recommend.
Pete the Cat (and the authors Dean) mix some positive nuggets of wisdom from various famous folks with Pete's simple translations. Great messages for your young (and not-so-young) Pete the Cat fans. I highly recommend it.
Really good book of famous quotes. Loved Pete the Cat’s groovy quotes alongside the classic quotes. Great illustrations. Only one quote I didn’t like about carrying a cat by the tail, Mark Twain. Never a good idea to abuse an animal.
This is a picture book with quotes. Wonderful collection of world-wide quotes on life as well as Pete's version. Priceless and WAY COOL! Highly recommended and humorous pictures to boot!
this isn't the normal children's book with Pete but each page has a quote from an author, or someone else that has an inspirational thought or saying to encourage you.
This book, by Kimberly and James Dean, was a continuation of the Pete the Cat series. This book was different because every page had a quote from a historical figure. The quotes were all themed to show an optimistic view on life. Of course, Pete the Cat was also on every page adding his own commentary to every quote. The illustrations are actually done by James Dean.
I really liked this book. There were quotes from so many different historical figures. I think that it could benefit all students. It was so refreshing to read a book that had such a positive view on life, and I feel that children today need that because there is so much we could be sad about.
I would use this book in my classroom. However, I think that I would show it to older students. I always loved reading books in class no matter how old I got. I would give this in fourth through sixth grade. I would want them to pick their favorite quote and write about what it means to them and how they can apply it in their lives.
This book was such a lovely surprise. The very first spread is a message from Pete, Life takes courage; be brave! It is partnered with a quote from, William Wordsworth, “To begin, begin.” What greater message to kids? Begin, be brave, begin. Wether it’s the first day of school or first time in a swimming pool, these are gentle but firm encouragements. Perfect for beginners!
The Lewis Carroll quote might be a little deep for young ones, “If you don’t know where you are going any path will get you there.” But then again, kids are really quite brilliant, so who knows? Pete’s advice? Go with the flow. Hmm, once again we’d need to trust that the kids were brilliant enough to know good flow from bad flow.
All that said, I LOVE THIS BOOK! The knowledge shared through quotes from creative masters is so encouraging and inspiring. And you can feel the genuine love in every single one of them. It is a beautiful book. The illustrations are bright, colorful, and absolutely gorgeous!
I highly recommend this book for ALL ages. And it’s getting my, HUGGABLE BOOK AWARD.
This Pete the Cat story is filled with famous quotes from people in history. I think this book would be perfect for children who love the Pete the Cat series. It is a good way to introduce them to famous people and quotes. The book contains quotes by people in history such as Albert Einstein, Confucius, Abraham Lincoln, Shakespeare and many more. The fun illustrations include classic Pete the Cat characters and their little comments about the people and quotes throughout the book. Although this book is good for introducing famous quotes and people, I think it could be seen as boring to a lot of children. There is not a storyline to follow and some of the quotes might not be understood by certain ages. Also, by the time children are learning about these famous people in class, I think they might be too old for this genre. I did enjoy the book but I am not sure how many children would find is engaging.
Pete the Cat's Groovy Guide to Life by Kimberly and James dean is an inspiration book filled with quote from famous people, with Pete the Cat's summarization of the quote. The quotes range from why it's important to go to school, learning, and general life advice.
This cute quick read is good for the first few weeks or days of school, to encourage and inspire students or to just have it on the shelf for anyone to read during the school year. Personally I would love to keep this book very accessible for my students, if at anytime I see change in behavior I would open up to a quote that would be helpful.
Personally I Liked this book, even though there wasn't a story line, I found it interesting and fun to read. I think this would be a good book to have on hand in a classroom.
One of the children in my class brought this book in for us to read. Its filled with well known quotes and proverbs, and the Pete the cats quick sum up of what it means in his own words. I'm not sure how much of it all the children really understood, but Pete the cats version seemed to register with them.
It's not really a story though, just page after page of advice through the quotes of how to live a happy life.
