Is a teenager a match for an alien horde?
Trigger warning! My heart goes out to anyone who’s been a victim of assault. For this reason I wanted to warn you that this book contains a rape scene. It’s not graphic, and I promise it wouldn’t be there if I could have avoided it plot-wise. If this subject matter is too painful for you, please try one of my other books instead.
Takes the reader on a page-turning thrill ride. Buckle up and hang on! Breeding Ground is a promising start to what seems to be an interesting and intriguing Sci-fi story.

The beginning of the Breeding Ground Saga. Lenora Gates and Tryyg, a slave alien's story was an interesting story with its twists and turns. I want to read the next book to see what is going to happen next. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Days before her 18th birthday, Lenora Gates ignores her parents’ wish to meet them after school for an important message. Instead, she hangs out with her friend Rachel, who just discovered she is pregnant. When Lenora returns to Rachel’s house after a movie, Rachel’s mom delivers devastating news. Lenora’s parents died in an accidental explosion.
Lenora is left a safety deposit box she can’t open until after her 18th birthday. The house is hers, too, until aliens burn it to the ground searching for an alien rock and Lenora’s parents’ scientific notes. Lenora’s parents were working with Tryyg, a slave alien who crash landed on Earth five years ago. When the villainous aliens attack Lenora, Tryyg rescues her, fulfilling a promise to protect Lenora if someone happened during her parents’ dangerous quest.
I had a lot of issues with Breeding Ground. First, there were too many unanswered questions. Rachel’s pregnancy is a pretty big bombshell dropped in the opening pages, but isn’t really a part of the story at all. I never really had a good sense of what Lenora’s parents left her or why she had to wait until her 18th birthday to view it. Also, I didn’t understand why what was in the safety deposit box was important enough for the aliens to kill for. I felt like the majority of the story was pointless because even at the end, when Lenora and Trygg succeed and save the day, I really didn’t understand what they saved the world from or why it mattered.
But the MAIN issue that I had with Breeding Ground was the rape. The first time Tryyg saves Lenora he is unknown to her, so she fights back and sticks him with a needle full of drugs. The next scene is a sweet mating scene where drugged Tryyg remembers the alien ritual of his first night with his wife. I read this as a flashback, a drug induced hallucination of prior story events. However, when Lenora wakes up, she screams rape and Tryyg’s character seems sickened by the act that he committed in his drugged state. Later in the story, Lenora discovers she and Tryyg are mated for life because of this act. I was horrified when I realized that rape was the start of their romantic relationship. I also could not believe that Lenora would ever work with, attempt to save, travel with, or associate with Tryyg after he raped her. I was disgusted that she would be so forgiving, continuing on the journey to a point in time where they save the world and decide to “date.” For me, the rape was a severe turn off and caused me to rate Breeding Ground with only one star.
I have to say I was mixed on this book. It was well written and fast paced but some of the character actions and reactions were just not believable. The main character, Lenora, is unlikable most of the time. The books starts off with her best friend, whom she can’t stand, calling to confide in her that she is pregnant. Lenora rambles on about how self-absorbed Rachel is and how she would not even be her friend if she had anyone else to choice from. Apparently Lenora is not quite the friend magnet and it is understandable why. She goes on for several paragraphs about how Rachel is only concerned with herself and then…. Um, what? She wasn’t listening to her best friend freaking out about being pregnant. Um… Okay. She agrees with whatever Rachel just said because she wasn’t listening and then continues to whine about how she has to have her over now that she has agreed to it. Who is the self-absorbed one? Lenora is easily led and whiny about it. Then there is the “drool worthy” alien – that rapes her in a drug induced state…. That one did catch me off guard. At first Lenora is upset and traumatized by the rape but before too long she is kissing him and going gaga over his abs. That was the part that lost me. The book is a complete roller coaster. It is full of moments that you don’t think are going to happen. It runs wild over the Earth and beyond and is well written and paced, but some of the theme and content is off. The alien (I can’t remember his name) falls for Lenora too. But I never got why. I needed more there. And the story ends on a cliff hanger. A cliff hanger that makes you say, “Are you f’n kidding me?” and I lot is left up in the air. I have a feeling this will be an author to watch once she gets her characterization nailed down, and makes her plots a touch more believable. I know we are talking Sci-fi here. Also, the first half of the book focuses a lot on the injuries that both characters obtain. Then they are forgotten. And they get injured A LOT!

This book was a roller coaster ride! Very intense and full of action! This story moved along really well and was a quick read. There were some typos but since the story moved along so well I didn't really pay much attention to them.
There is a lot going on in this book. Thankfully, with so much going on it's written well enough to keep track of everything. It was kind of hard to relate to Lenora at first, she seemed like a stuck up teenager, but as the story progressed I started to worry about what would happen to her. I wish there was more of her with her parents in the beginning to help the reader understand her strong relationship with them. I wasn't really sure what part her friend Rachel played as she was there in the beginning but then just leaves and we don't really see her again.
I feel like more could be added to the ending because Earth doesn't really feel saved to me at the end. Perhaps that happens in the next book though. Overall, I enjoyed this book and found it an enjoyable read. I love anything sci-fi and I like the fact this story had that teenage aspect to it as well.
This story has highs and lows. The main female character at times is so in her self that the world Round her does not exist except in her books. When her parents die she becomes so emotionally comatose that the story kinda falters. When the main male character comes into play she changes. I really liked his character. The story keeps you wondering what is happening and some situations are so out there you wonder if they will even survive. You still have questions when the book ends but it does not really seem to be a cliffhanger. I liked the story and the plot and twists that happen. They did seem to travel from planet to planet very quickly. And the title does not really fit this book. I am still going to read book 2 to keep up with this story line.

We a young girl who is in the middle of an alien takeover and has no idea what to do. She relies on someone she knows nothing about and has something happen that takes away her trust. I can relate to her up to a point. Yes she has been through a lot but she isn't growing she is reverting to someone who needs constant attention. The main heroine is definitely not my favorite I'm hoping for growth.
My reaction: Meh. I couldn't finish it. I was looking for a YA alien romance comparable to Roswell High by Melinda Metz or the Lux series by J.L. Armentrout. This didn't do it for me. The female lead character was annoying and I couldn't get into the story.
