THIS WAS SET IN 1893 BUT REMINDED ME OF A MIXTURE OF A ROMANTIC SHERLOCK HOLMES WITH A TOUCH OF VICTORE VICTORIA. IT WAS HUMOROUS AT TIMES AND I LOVED WATCHING XAVIER (what a cool name) AND VIC FALL IN LOVE. THOUGH IT TOOK PLACE IN 1893, I SEE SOME THINGS PEOPLE THINK AND DO HAVEN’T CHANGED ALL THAT MUCH. I REALLY ENJOYED XAVIER WAY BETTER THAN SHERLOCK, HE WAS SO SMART-N-SEXY. ;D

Unique

I loved all the cases that were solved. This book was good light reading fun. Not crazy about the romance. I think there should have been a better way to get them together.

I recently read “Worst Week Ever” by Liza O’Connor and fell in love with her witty, funny, snarky writing style and brilliant characterization. So I grabbed a copy of “The Troublesome Apprentice” when it was on sale, and as with the other book, it has got me hooked on the whole series.
This book was full of pleasant surprises. The biggest is revealed soon, because Victor the hero is actually Vic the heroine. She’s been dressing as a young man for years, and it has brought her advantages and happi

Vic has lived most of her life as a boy to be able to enjoy the freedom that males are allowed during Victorian England. Upon the murder of her Aunt and guardian, she forms a relationship with Xavier Thorn, the famous sleuth. Determined to keep her gender a secret, she resists falling for Xavier but does so anyway.

Ms. O'Connor writes amazing stories that have a great sense of innate humor. Her characters are multi-dimensional as they seek their own happily ever after. As the first in The Adventu

4.5 Stars. I loved the premise of this book. The idea of a woman passing herself as a man in the Victoria era was fascinating. I loved how hers and Xavier's relationship unfolded. The romance between these two built until I couldn't stop turning pages.

The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star, for me, was it took a while to past the formal language-which was accurate to the time period. But after several chapters, I hardly noticed.

Liza O'Connor is a multi-faceted author and I loved her

I know Liza from the sci-fi romance community. Did not know she writes historical private eye books. First, I loved the world she's built during the late Victorian period. The characters are terrific. Vic doesn't put up with nothing from nobody. Xavier, the "real" Sherlock Holmes, can't keep a secretary longer than a week. Vic can see why. She does a great job bringing him down to reality. Their banter makes me laugh, esp. when Xavier wasn't trying to be funny. This is a delightful book and I'm ...more

This was a fun read. I admit I struggled a bit in the beginning and wasn’t sure I was going to stick with it, but then I fell for the characters. I had to see how it was going to play out and I’m glad I did. I got a tad lost a few times with multiple threads and plot lines but the characters are really enjoyable and great fun. A hand full of typo’s but nothing excessive. Recommend.
